We ve been traveling in our camper full time for 11months before coming here, so we ve seen the good, bad and ugly. We re a family of 4. The plusses: great location - right on the river, 20 min to Fayetteville, level sites, all full hookup. Kid friendly staff offering free lollipops and penny candy What to improve on: follow up with calls and emails. We just happened to have her pick up one day after multiple calls and a message via the email service on the website. Also, lessen the price of the laundry machines - $2 is the highest I ve seen for a washer that size in all our travels. Finally, treat her like a human and she ll be on your side. We tend to do that anyway, but it goes along way with this staff. She s working hard and it shows. All in all a good experience, just small things to tweak.

Don't expect much! Just a bump in the road, a flat place to park your rig. There's nothing to do besides paddle.Mostly empty on a cold October weekend, it was maddening that the office placed a camper right next to us, with SIX people. Their awning almost touched our slide!

Worst customer service ever! Don t try to call them because they are never there to pick up. Even when they do, they tell you their computer is down or they are in the mountains and the signal is bad. We made reservations over the phone and waited over 3 months to finally get someone to answer. Then to tell us that it is now booked and she didn t have our names down. Wow! You need to figure this out or else you won t be open long. Don t waste your time with these people. Go elsewhere. West Virginia is such a beautiful state. So many other campgrounds. Stay away from here!!!

I had the most amazing stay here! The campground is beautiful! I was right next to the new river and breathtaking mountains. It was so peaceful just reading outside for hours in the cool weather. The other campers were so friendly and each campsite had plenty of room. Staff was so friendly and the whole place had such a warm feel. I will definitely come here again! The whole new river area is full of waterfalls, trails, and historic buildings.

This has to be the worst business ever! I ve spoke to the reservation lady in May to make a family reservation for August. The lady took my information and said she will email me. Didn t receive anything for months. Been trying to call for over 3 months and no one ever picks up. A week before our trip, I d called and the reservation lady picked up. I d told everything about our reservation and she tells me that she doesn t have my information and now the site is not available. Not very professional! Stay away from this place! Very poorly run business!!!!

The five stars are my overall rating as the owners hospitality, rates for full hook ups, views, water access, fishing on the end of the 360 mile stretch of the oldest river on the North American Continent. 50 amp/30 amp/ and tent spaces, great for calm water kayaking. We didn t use the bathhouse facilities during our visit but the exterior appeared well maintained. Down sides not controlled by owners is train traffic from across the New River can be awakening in the morning, however the day break views are worth the rise.

100% recommend this campground! The lady who runs it is extremely nice and is always making sure you re having a good time! The bathrooms are only available to those who don t have ones in their campers which was nice so we didn t have to share with other families and we could maintain the cleanliness ourselves. There are also 3 ducks that are very friendly and usually stick around the campsites. Everything is very accessible and very clean. The trash pick up is well maintained. The views are wonderful! The river is peaceful while also being surrounded by rock walls on both sides. There are plenty of state parks and other tremendous things to see in the area!NOTE: There are also plenty of stores near by to pick up last minute items you may have forgotten & there are a million places to get or exchange your propane tanks!!

Nice locally owned campground right on the New River. Campground was clean and well maintained; spot #30 was perfectly flat did not have to level at all; Tables were sturdy; water and electric set up nice; quiet. River side lots are nice; can swim or wade from your campground; staff friendly. We will return.Could not find the Wi-Fi signal they claimed they had but had 5G (AT&T) service; not really any close restaurants or super markets; there is a small Family Dollar next door to the campground where you can find the basics and an Exxon a little bit up the road.

This camp seems bare bones, but I had a pull through, full hook up site with 30 amp service. Never had any issues. The owners were AMAZING. The day they knew we were going whitewater rafting (use Cantrell) and therefore couldn't take our pups, the owners checked on them multiple times throughout the day. Can't get better service than that. Also, they have Wi-Fi that works. I was able to get work done too while I was here, so that's awesome too. Plus the stunningly gorgeous views will make me sad to leave West Virginia. I'd stay at this campground again in a heartbeat next time I'm am this way.

Beautiful campground with great views of the river. The hosts/owners are very nice. Super accommodating. Great location to put in kayaks, paddle boards, or canoes. Not much to do in the area, but easy 30 min drive to Charleston, Fayetteville, or areas for hiking and biking. Some of water front sites are parallel to the river, which gives great views, but limited privacy with neighbors.

I love this place, the owners are very nice. The campground and bathrooms are clean. A lot of people say their isn't much to do, but to us camping is about relaxing. You can take a short drive to the water fall 5 mins away or go to Hawks nest, which is only 10 or 15 minute drive. You can fish, bring some games to play. Their are restaurants near by and a Dollar store and grocery store less than a minute away. Oh, and I forgot to mention full hookups and wifi. To me it's all about who runs it and their personality. Would recommend it to everyone.

The place was beautiful but the service was horrible! The bathrooms were disgusting since day one we got there and was never cleaned for over 7 days. The electric was horrible. Breaker kept kicking constantly and it wasn t just ours. One camper everytime you touched it shocked you and the camper over breaker kept kicking also. Camped at other campgrounds and this was not a problem. So it was their electric. Just horrible experience. They couldn t give us an explanation either. Our site super close together, just enough room for the awning to come out. We had on the river spot and it was beautiful but with everything else it was an horrible experience. I do not recommend this if you want to use your camper and all the things in it. We couldn t hardly get a cup of coffee with our breaker kicking.

We had a wonderful time at this perfect little campground. We took our 3 kiddos here, 1, 5 and 7. There is a nice playground area, and plenty of places to explore. We had a beautiful camping spot right on the river. We have a 28ft Class C motorhome. Easy parking at the campground. We went canoeing and hiking. There are a lot of hiking spots near here. You have to check out the New River Gorge Bridge. Spectacular bridge!! The camp staff are wonderful and friendly. There is a laundry room and clean bathrooms. Right next door is a family dollar and a grocery store should you need anything. We are definitely coming back!

Great little campground right on the New River. Pricing is very reasonable for full hookup and 50 amp electric. Quiet atmosphere. Stayed here while white water rafting and hiking. Would definitely stay here again.

Having managed a campground for twenty years, I have a little expertise. The location was awe inspiring especially with a full moon.sites were clean, well marked. The bath house was great, separated into individual baths, they were clean, floor was dry, actual shower stalls , no bare concrete.Campground itself was quite with exception of the railroad across the river and traffic on US 60.Really enjoyed my stay, and will be returning

Its beautiful, right on the river. They stay booked all weekday and weekends so you have to call and book in months advance. You can Kayaking here. Not very good for jetskies but you can do it if you are careful. People here are nice. Cop cars patrol it all day.

Great campground. Owners are swell, the sites are pretty. Right on midland trail, so road noise is a little loud sometimes, but it is not enough to keep me from returning. Nice little camp and bait store, riverside access for kayaks and fishing. Bathrooms are kept up and individual so plenty of privacy. Good prices.

This campground is right on the New River. Our site, 36, was feet away from the edge and parallel to it. It was gravel and surprisingly level, had 30 amp, water and sewer. Cheryl, the owner, was very nice, helpful, offered info about the area. Told us they sold ice and wood by the wheelbarrow for $5. Unfortunately we awoke to the river rising due to the rain from hurricane Michael in North Carolina and dams along the way being opened. We saw many of the campground sites already under water and others quickly disappearing. We moved to higher ground to site 37, that had 50 amp, but as we were sitting outside watching the water it rose even more. Cheryl had come and checked on us quite a few times and told us that the evacuation place was just right down the street at a small shopping center (grocery, CVS, Family Dollar). The water won and we moved to the parking lot. We stayed there 2 nights until the water had receded. There was an amazing amount of driftwood all over the campground but she was out there with helpers cleaning it up. Once there was a place for us to get to we moved back. It s not a fancy park, a little rustic feeling, but the view is spectacular and we loved it there. There are playgrounds for kids, newer private showers and laundry. It has a boat ramp and she sells bait in her store. It s in a beautiful area just unfortunate that the water rose while we were there. There are pull-through and back-in sites, some with 30, some 50 amp. I do not remember if they were all full hookup. There are also tent sites. All had fire rings. Wifi was decent up near the bathhouse, Verizon was only sketchy. We paid $25 per night.

This place was okay, but the service was awful. Being on the river is nice, but it ended there. The electric at our site was spotty, constantly blowing during the day which meant no air conditioning - in the middle of the summer. We tried to get them to move us but they refused. Also, they advertise WiFi but it only worked if you sat up at the pavilion, which during the summer is hot! The location is in the middle of nowhere and we really chose this place to be on the water. However all the inconveniences were not at all worth it. Stay away from this place . There are much nicer and more convenient places to camp.

We were there a couple days, went into fayettville to eat and left our Dog chained up at the site with food and water. When we returned the owner came and screamed and yelled cussing us telling us we had abused our dog and had 30 minutes to leave the property and she was gonna make sure we didn't steal anything. Needless to say we won't EVER be staying here again. There are other nicer campgrounds just a few miles up the road in fayettville and oak hill. On top of that they will only sell you $5 in wood a day because they are too lazy to cut more. Not to mention we were not even offered a refund on the remaining 2 days we had paid for in advance.

We live locally and camp here often. It's my husband's favorite place to fish. Had a catfish take our entire pole and 3 weeks later got our pole back. One of the seasonal campers caught it and the catfish was still on and still alive. He released it and gave us the pole back. Love this campground

Love! Love! Love this place! I first drove by this place on June 2nd, 2019, I had to pull over and stop to take it all in! Beyond pefection! I told myself I have to come back. I drove in this labor day weekend, so glad I did! The owner, super, super sweet! If you love to camp, you Murray visit this spot! You can kayak, jet ski and boat. You can fish, or just relax.

Older campground. We were not on the river. There was a busy road behind us. Someone stole my husband's bike first night we were there. Someone walking along the road must have spotted it and took off with it. If you go, get a spot along the river. Very peaceful and pretty. And lock up your valuables..We were told to make a police report which we did because it was a good bike. Police were so kind.

Went to New River Camp ground in July 2012 with new owner and unfortunately a freak wind storm and tornadoes caused havoc in WV and Virginia. Upon arrival the camp ground had no electricity and unfortunately the towns water uses electric pumps and the generators were running out of fuel.About the camp ground, the sites have no stone area for a trailer and several "holes" from apparent old stump locations on the sites. It did have new picnic tables but on ours the stabilizer from the legs to table top had the screws pulled through and was unstable ( even dangerous of sideways collapse). The location is right next to the creek, great for fishing or boating. Unfortunately the camp is next to an apparent public boat launch and jet ski's and somewhat large power boats cruised the creek back and forth all day. The camp ground is right next to route 16 and coal trucks are continually hauling starting very early.Overall it was so-so, nice scenery, full hookups, large sites, easy access. But the muddy site and noisy environment was a distraction. I never used their bathroom since the lights didn't work so I can't rate it. It does appear like the new owner is making an attempt to revive the camp ground.

It's so beautiful here. You're right on the river between the mountains. There are ducks and geese to feed. So much fun. There are always fish jumping out of the water and kayakers and fishermen to watch. It's a lively place with almost nightly bonfires and the staff is so nice. Especially the owner Cheryl. She's always giving our dog a doggie cookie. I also like that there is a laundry room with 2 washers and dryers. The spaces are good size and it's a shady place with lots of mature trees. Good central location, too. Right between activities at New River Gorge and attractions around Charleston. We practically live here! It's good to see and hear the coal trains going by across the river!

Wish we could have spent more than one night here, as it was a very scenic campground, right on the New River. They were kind enough to allow us to stay here one night on a Saturday, which is great, as many other campgrounds I called required a two-night stay on the weekends. I don't know if this was just because of it being in the off-season (I stayed the evening of September 8th), but it was very appreciated. The office has a small bait shop in it if you're looking to do some fishing while you are there. Restrooms and showers are available, but I was staying in my travel trailer, which is self-contained, so I did not use them. The RV sites have full hookup, but my trailer has the sewer connection almost all the way at the rear, and I did not bring enough hose to connect to the sewer port. NOT a knock on the campground at all, just make sure to bring more hose. 20 feet would have gotten me there, but I only had 10. WiFi is available if you're relatively close to the office. I had an excellent connection at my site, and, since it rained most of the time I was there, I was even able to watch a Netflix movie. I have NEVER been to a campground where the Wifi was that good! I am told that the connection is difficult, if not impossible, to get if you are further down from the office. There is also a boat ramp and boat trailer parking available here, so if you're bringing a boat, kayak, or canoe, you can launch it right from the campground. Very nice touch! Last, but not least, firewood is available here, for $5 for a wheelbarrow load. This is the best deal I have seen at a campground in a while!I stayed in Site 38, which is a site parallel to the river. It made for some beautiful views out the windows on the curb side of my trailer. Unfortunately, it rained nearly the entire time I was there, so I did not spend as much time outside as the view deserved. So, why only 4 stars? Well, it is a bit unfair, but, since the weather had been very wet for the few weeks leading up to our stay, the campground was extremely muddy in many places. It was doable, but some careful driving was needed to avoid hitting a large mud hole or a rut. A little more gravel would go a long way to helping the campground be easier to negotiate. Obviously, the owners can't control the weather, but a little maintenance on the roads might make things a bit easier when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate. I suspect due to the extremely wet weather that it was about as muddy as it gets when I was there, and I had no issues getting in or out. I do recommend bringing wood or plastic levelers to put under your RV tires, just in case.Overall, I think New River Campground really deserves more like 4.5 stars. It was a nice quiet stay, in an absolutely beautiful location. The staff that helped get me checked in were incredibly helpful and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again, despite the soft ground!

We pulled in and were guided by the owner to the perfect spot on the river. This was just right for our family- two adults, a teen and a tween. There was a fire ring and a picnic table at our site. Nothing fancy, just right. There is a small playset and a small private beach on the river for kids. Nothing else. It is right on the highway for easy access, but there's a hill to protect kiddos from traffic. Also, we didn't hear any major road noise. There seem to be many long term seasonal renters here. This was the perfect quiet, unplugged getaway. There is no cell service, but the free wi-fi worked well for us. If you are looking for basic and beautiful, this is it.
