I brought my car bc I saw good reviews here but They over charged me for two diagnostics fees ($300 for check engine) which they didn't say at first. Be careful they will try to take advantage of you if you don't know anything about cars.

Follow up from prev 2007 Acura TL review. During the month of April the check engine light came on in my son s car. We went by a local auto parts store to have the codes pulled. We were told that it was a misfire with cylinders 3, 5, and 6. So I m thinking no real biggie. I called our mechanic and of course he asked about spark plugs and engine coils. I reminded him that we had replaced both earlier this year. He says to make an appointment to bring the car in and he would double check them. He said one could be bad, need cleaning or the store could have given us an incorrect one. However before the appointment I noticed some antifreeze in the garage from where the car had been parked. We took the car to our mechanic here in NC on 4/17. He lifts up the hood of the car and asks why is the fan unplugged. I told I had no idea nor did I know that it was unplugged. I reminded him about the incident in Virginia Beach. This was the last time anyone has been under this hood or worked on the car. He told me that this means the place that replaced the radiator did not plug the fan back up. He of course immediately plugs it in and puts the car on the lift. He is able to see that the leak is coming from the water pump. We ended up leaving the car because this has him concerned especially now that the car is leaking antifreeze again and the fan was unplugged. This is just part II of this saga. More to follow. And no it doesn t get any better.Service: General repairs & maintenance

The mechanics here are honest, awesome, and down-to-earth! They are the go-to mechanics in town for older cars. When my 17-year-old minivan broke down on the highway 2 times, I towed it to Cape Henry Exxon and they were able to fix it quickly with no problems, and at a good reasonable cost. It then broke again a month ago, and we took it to the closest mechanic who said that this 325,000 mileage minivan was toast and that we needed a new engine for it. We then took our minivan for a second opinion at Cape Henry Exxon, and they simply diagnosed and fixed the sensors for just a few hundred dollars... We are very happy to know the best mechanics in town are at Cape Henry Exxon!

Brought my car here after the dealer told me I needed new front and rear brakes during my regular scheduled maintenance that would be $1800. The guys here did a full brake inspection and were honest with me that my brakes were perfectly fine and almost brand new. Will definitely be coming here for future needs and highly recommend.

Never going back again. I have used them twice for a oil change and once for a state inspection. The first visit was quick and easy with no issues and they even accepted a coupon for a synthetic blend oil change. I went again today for an oil change and state inspection. I don't mind that even though I had an appointment at 8am and they didn't start the oil change until almost 9:30, it was the fact that they tried to convince me that my car REQUIRED a full synthetic (and much more expensive) oil. The shop manager said that the tech working on my car stated that it was on the oil cap that this was the oil that HAS to be used. I knew that this was BS, as I have conducted numerous oil changes on the car and have made sure what kind and type of oil my car requires. Nowhere does it say (on the oil cap, under the hood, and in the manual) that my car requires full synthetic oil. It is one thing to recommend this type of oil, but to try and lie to me and say that it is required is another. It wasn't until I told the shop manager that the last time I had my oil changed here that synthetic blend oil was used, that he reluctantly said he would tell the tech to use that instead. When shops lie like this to me, it makes me question any other recommendation they make and motivates me to write a review on their services.Service: Oil change

I have been taking all of my vehicles (4) for service (oil change to new brakes and tires to state inspections) to the Cape Henry Exxon for the past 12 years... NO MORE. I'm not sure if it was due to the ownership change a few years ago, but my last experience convinced me that they can no longer be trusted to be my "honest" car mechanic. Among several other examples, the most flagrant is that during a routine oil change this week, they told me I needed a new battery. Given that I my battery was less than 12 months old, I told them of my surprise and took it to two auto-parts dealers; both confirmed that my battery was in perfect condition. This is not the first/only example of them trying to sell me something I did not need. To my neighbors, I would encourage you to get a second opinion if they recommend service beyond what is requested.

I took my vehicle in for a standard oil change, and had a coupon for $24.95. Service manager called me to let me know they had broken the oil cap off while removing it, and told me how much it would cost to replace. I stated that since he broke it, they need to pay for it. I was then told he would check around the shop for one and take care of it with the owner. When I went to pick up my vehicle, my bill was over $125 and they refused to pick up the cost of the item they broke. I spoke to the owner, who was very rude, and questioned whether I could "comprehend" what happened. At this point, I said I'd pay for the oil change, but that I wasn't going to pay for the piece that they broke. They also basically ruined another vehicle I had when they "forgot" to fill the new radiator they installed, and my vehicle overheated and blew three head gaskets. The owner is very rude, and was unwilling to accept the blame for what his mechanics did. DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION, AS THEY ARE VERY UNETHICAL!!!

State Inspector Steve is an asset to the shop, he is knowledgeable & HONEST. When it comes to your vehicles needs he will let you know whether the repair is needed right away or needs done in the near future. I recommend Cape Henry Exxon Service Center

Dropped in this morning after my car wouldn't start. I was one of the first ones there that morning, so they pulled me right in and replaced the battery and cleaned my engine (the old battery exploded) for a reasonable price. Quick job -- took less than an hour. Mechanic and staff were nice and professional.

Everyone at cape Henry is absolutely excellent in terms of personality and customer service. I brought in my old 95 Jeep Wrangler and Aaron personally made sure I was happy with the finished product when I had to get an engine swap done. I ve taken my other vehicle there for an inspection and my Jeep there multiple times for the multiple problems it s had and have received nothing less than the best possibly service from them.

We'll never go anywhere else to take care of our cars. They do what they say they're gonna do gonna do and in a timely manner and it's always done correctly the 1st time. If you are looking for a reasonably priced mechanic who is looking out for the customer come here

Barry and his team at Cape Henry Exxon really go the extra mile. From giving me a ride home and then picking me back up while my truck is being serviced to replacing a tricky part for $55 that Lexus would have charged hundreds for!!!! I always trust their honest prices and service advice and won t take my truck anywhere else! Thanks again Barry!

Experience was extremely dissatisfying, had heard good things about this garage but experience a complete lack of competence and honesty when I brought my car for an inspection. First brought my car to be inspected and was informed of two problems that need to be repaired. So I let the car sit while I ordered the parts and then had it fixed. Brought back for re-inspection and they proceeded to fail me for completely new problems that were never mention in the initial inspection. This would be impossible considering the car never moved except to get repaired. When I was called to be informed of this they didn't even realize that they had done the previous inspection and were going to talk about some other garage as if they hadn't done their job correctly until I told them that they did the inspection, magically they found the paperwork from before. Will never recommend this garage to any of my friends, family, or coworkers unless they want to waste their time and money.

While waiting 2 hours for my car to get serviced for a scheduled oil change (was told it would take an hour), I witnessed a guy drive up, get his service ahead of me, then give the mechanic a cash handshake thanking him for fitting him in at the last second. Since the ownership change, Cape Henry Exxon has turned into a place where you can expect to get upcharged on simple fixes and leave feeling like you got ripped off. I used them before because I trusted the Birch Family, now I just go across the street.

I went here and the guys took time out of their busy day to see if they could patch my flat tire. Great shop!

Absolutely superb service. Was seen immediately for a leaking tire, despite it being the day before Independence Day. Problem was diagnosed and solved within 30 minutes, cost was so low I don't even care to pursue Costco for remuneration based on tire warranty, and everyone I dealt with was extremely friendly, personable, and knowledgeable.

Worst experience ever! Totally tried to take advantage of me, being a middle-aged women. Little did they know, I have above average intelligence when it comes to car mechanics. Went in for an inspection, said I needed all sorts of stuff, brakes, pads, oil filter, air filter, the list went on and on. Left there, and went to Pepboys on Virginia Beach Blvd (the one across from Lowe's) car passed no problem, go figure. These guys should be ashamed of themselves. Please don't go here

I have been a loyal customer of Cape Henry Exxon, 2903 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, VA for over 20 years, including when it was Citgo several owners ago. But they let me down.We planned a vacation 320 miles from home. Having an older Jeep, I purchased a trip inspection, where Cape Henry Exxon was suppose to tell me if the vehicle was OK. Among other things, they suggested a radiator flush and refill, which was done.Twenty-five miles from our destination the Jeep overheated. After waiting 2 hours in Sunday summer 95+ degree heat, the tow truck took the Jeep to a service center. A good Samaritan took us the rest of the way.I picked up the Jeep Wednesday and paid the $353 bill. The upper and lower radiator hoses and the radiator cap were bad. All should have been caught during the trip inspection and/or the radiator flush at Cape Henry Exxon. I had to get the cooling system re-flushed and refilled.Upon return, I asked Cape Henry Exxon to pay for the out of town charges or refund the money I paid them for their trip check and radiator flush and refill. They refused. We have given Cape Henry Exxon more than $1300 in repair charges for our 2 vehicles doing the first six months of this year. But no more. If a business won t stand behind it s work, I will take my business elsewhere.(Since this posted I have been contacted by the owner. Without accepting any blame, since he feels his mechanics did nothing wrong, he offered a future service credit in an amount near the cost of the radiator flush. Because of my long relationship with them, I accepted and will continue to get my cars repaired there. And thank you, Google Maps.)

Was just a simple tire repair but service was excellent. I dropped off the tire and it repaired within an hour. When I went to pick it up, one of the techs offered to put the tire back on my car. Will use them again in the future for repairs.

I was referred here for tire repair. It was the worst experience I have had in years. The person who was waiting on me started helping another customer... a male...while I was speaking to him . As a person of color and a woman, I found his behavior offensive. He did not perform the work I requested and kept my car the entire day never calling to tell me he was finished. I would not recommend this business to anyone.

I take all my cars here for service (inspection, brakes, A/C, etc.) Aaron is honest and is able to squeeze me in especially when I'm in a jam. I appreciate his honesty and not trying to sell me something I don't need.

After calling 3-4 shops nearby Allen and his team were able to squeeze me in for a tire pressure sensor. It was minimal but it saved my packed schedule. Will definitely be coming back.

Waited 2 hours to fix a leak in a tire but was told it would be 'a while' before anyone could put the tire on the car. When I took it to a tire store to out the tire on, they found it was leaking still. Sloppy work, won't go there again.
