First time I came here, I thought I needed a service I didn't and was told so honestly, contrary to mechanics I visited in the past. Today, my brakes were serviced in 2 hours on a walk in at a bargain. Geoff is an intelligent and personable operator, and all the technicians have done right by me. My advice is to not let the big name scare you away.

The shop manager and employees at the Independence location are great! They provided me with an accurate diagnosis, quality work and while being friendly. I will continue to use this location for any maintenance or mechanical work that my vehicles require!! That being said, I will never use the VB Blvd location again. They misdiagnosed my brake issue and tried to have me replace parts that were not needed.

Matt and crew were efficient and professional. I just talked my son to take his vehicle there for brakes etc. They did a great job on my car

Tim, Chris and all the guys there who worked on my 07 Toyota Camry yesterday afternoon, just want to say thank you so much for everything. My car broke down 350 miles away from home on the Chesapeake bridge after the first tunnel and got my car towed to Big Al s and Tim and the other guys were fast, honest, kind, and just awesome. They checked my car right away and told me my caliper bolts were loose and one came out in the highway. It was scary but he helped me and fixed it all right away. My entire family and I are so grateful for this place. Closest to the bridge too. He fixed it, tested it and it ran smoothly for the next 350 miles. Thank you so much again. Best mechanic I probably have ever gone to.

If I suspect that my brake linings are approaching wear to the point of requiring replacement during my state inspection, I always have Big Al's do a free brake inspection and replace as necessary. Once the vehicle fails state inspection, I'm usually going to pay a lot more if I get the shop performing the inspection to do the work and its cumbersome to get a rejection sticker, get repaired, and then bring back to the same shop to have the inspection completed. And Big Al's quality is good as anybody's.Service: Auto brake replacement

I went to get an oil change yesterday and had a coupon. Tim got my vehicle in right away and it was completed very promptly. I get all my maintenance and repairs done at this facility, as they are the only place I trust. All the staff are wonderful.

How in the hell do you get a estimate of $6800 to fix brakes? That's the price of a god damn car you crooks. I got home and fixed the car myself for $50. It literally needed pads like I told the manager. He said I needed a whole new system. Even with a whole new brake system, how do you come up $6800??

Gained my business from doing my 2010 Nissan PPI and let me know all about what the dealership do not mention. Also they got me in super last minute and I appreciate everything. Spot on with the appraisal of the used car!

Big Al's on Independence Avenue, great team, professional and courteous. I had my classic car (1956 Desoto) repaired by them. They did a great job rebuilding my exhaust system in......less than 24 hours!!!!! The car now runs like new! Was looking for a reliable place to complete basic tasks on my car ie oil changes, tire rotations, brakes, fluids, etc and happened to find Big Al s. I was very happy with the customer service and Tim was a personable and knowledgeable guy. Very happy with my oil change and tire rotation and will be back if any car problems or needs arise.Service: Oil change

I am a regular customer at this Big Al's at 1613 Independence Blvd., Va. Beach, 23455. Always excellent service. Great customer service!! Jim Sills, Manager, has always treated me well. In and out and great prices. Service Techs are awesome with lots of knowledge and experience. I can always rely on the repairs of my vehicle. I highly, highly recommend customers to stop in to experience the great service provided by this Big Al's! Thank you Jim and your team of techs!!

I brought my Xterra in for a cracked manifold, found out it was both the manifold and catalytic converter; which is an expensive fix with labor. Before I could ask what the cost would be, I was told to take it to the dealership to have it fixed as both parts are covered under a Federal Warranty. These guys could've easily not said anything about it and gotten a high priced ticket, instead they chose to be honest and saved me a lot of money. I've taken my vehicle to another Big Al's in the past and received the same type of honest work and treatment. The gentlemen that work for this company are top notch guys who truly put the customers' best interest first. Highly recommend them for business.

I have followed Tim to from location to location because he has ALWAYS taken good, honest care of me and my vehicles. I started coming to Big Al's three years ago when I needed diagnostics done for a previous vehicle, and I have continued coming here ever since because of the positive experience I had that first time. Tim is always patient, professional, and he helps me to get the work I need done in the most efficient and cost effective way I can. Even when something is incorrect, I know I can bring iy back and have it redone without issue. Every bit of maintenance and brake work that I can done here, I do. I send my friends, coworkers and family members here. It's so rare to find shops and service advisors whom you trust to do a good, honest job at a fair price, and I absolutely trust Tim and his crew to do that here.Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, Steering & suspension repair, Brakes

Big Al s at 1613 Independence Blvd has become my go to place for car repair. I bring my vehicles in for regular maintenance and any time I have car trouble. I recently stopped in to have my clutch looked at. After inspecting it and seeing that it was okay, and tightening a battery terminal connection for me, Jim handed me the keys and told me that everything is good to go, at no charge. This isn t the first time that he has taken care of me.This place is one of those rare finds that is staffed by honest, hard working people that know your name and do a great job at a good price. I highly recommend trying out this establishment. You will become a regular customer too!

$20 for an oil change when providing your own oil and filter. Thank you Big Al's. This is where I'll be bringing all my vehicles for an oil change. The staff was great. The service was good despite them being busy.

Big Als on Independence staff are very courteous and knowledgeable. I bring all my vehicles here for service; which saves me a lot of money. I recently took one of my vehicles for state inspection at a dealership and the services that the dealership wanted to perform were over $1k. After taking my vehicle to Big Als, I was able to save over $600 compared to dealership prices. They fixed my leaking muffler on my 4runner and double checked the " leaking" axle seal another shop said was bad. Didn't end up needing the seal and they did a awesome job with my muffler. Great guys and I'll definitely be going back if I need exhaust work or anything they do there.Service: ExhaustService: Exhaust

I called around town and several places couldn't fit me into their schedule and wanted to charge me double what I paid for here. This location took me in as a walk in and immediately worked on my car, charged a great price and even let me look under the car. My mom gets work done here, to her car and they haven't tried to get over on her, the guy Tim is very patient and overall, they do a great job with getting you in and out with little to no errors.

I took my car to the shop thinking I needed brake pads. The mechanic, Cory, inspected my brakes, told me there was nothing wrong with them and even asked me to take a ride around the block with him to point out any concerns. I REALLY appreciated his honesty. I am a federal employee (currently furloughed) and didn't want to postpone a potential problem only to end up with a major problem (without funds) due to waiting. This made my day.

After being scammed by one place in the area and than having another shop try the same thing, I was not impressed with the area s auto repair shops. Luckily, I decided to come here. Honestly, the workers are genuine, respectful and have proven themselves to be trustworthy. They also did the work for a reasonable price and fixed everything quickly.Services: Exhaust, Brakes

Always come by this shop to get work done and always leave with top notch work at an amazing price. Brought my Jeep Patriot into the shop to get some brakes done since some other shop( not gunna drop names) didnt assemble my brakes right. Griff and the guys down here took care of the problem within no time. 110% recommend this place for any auto needs.

Had an exhaust leak and cracked brake pads. Dropped the car off late in a Friday night and they said they may be able to do it that same night. They did and I was happy when I found out it would only cost me $150. I got an appraisal at another shop and they said just the brakes would cost me $500. I will tell my friends about this place and can't wait to do business here in the future!

I was recommended to Tim @ Big Al's from Advanced Auto.Tim was very personable and took the time without rushing to explain what my mom's car issues were and what it would take to fix it. We left feeling a little more confident, then when we came.
