I had my car repaired here a while back through insurance and this shop is clearly lousy with repairs. My car has a turbo and there is a wastegate actuator that had a broken harness from the crash and this is the shop that fixed the harness. My car threw many codes about a week ago and in my discovery I found the harness was glued instead of split and rewired like it should ve been causing electrical problems with my turbo. Just pathetic. I will be doing it the correct way myself.Service: Electrical repair

I've used Block Automotive many times over the past 20 years. I find them to be honest and reasonable in their pricing. Mark does a great job of explaining the problem and the recommended fix. I would highly recommend Mark and his team for your vehicle service and repairs.Service: Auto maintenanceService: Auto maintenance

I ve been using Block for 15+ yrs now. Mark has always been honest, forthright and fair. He ll take the time to talk you through everything in basic terms for those of us who are not mechanically inclined even if the repair s not what we want to hear, but that s all you can ask for in my book. And while he may not always seem the fastest repair, he s as fast as any shop in this market and as fast as available parts allow. Thank you Mark for help once again!Service: Engine repair

Block Automotive has done repairs for us several times over the last 10 years. They are not that close to our home, but I will go the extra distance to have them perform work on our vehicles. Most recently, I had my '84 Chevy C10 project truck in to have the engine adjusted. It was running rich and would stumble on hard acceleration. I tried and tried to adjust it myself with no joy. Block discovered that the carb had worn throttle shaft bores, which prevented it from being adjusted properly. They suggested installing a Holley 4175, which is a direct replacement for the finicky Quadrajet carb. My truck engine runs and drives better than it has in many years! Plus, I appreciate the clean installation.I also had them charge the A/C in the truck. They performed this job correctly by checking the system for leaks AND repairing the leak. Other shops would simply add R134 to the system and sendme down the road only to have the refrigerant leak out within approximately 3 months. These guys are great to deal with and I think they were just as excited about how well my truck runs as I am. You have my business whenever I run into something that I cannot fix myself, or is too big of a job.Thank you!

I took my Car there after I got several shocks and surprises from the dealerships across the Memphis area. I am glad that I took a wise decision and found BLOCK AUTOMOTIVE.I am not a mechanical guy, and I don't understand much about engines. Mark Block, what a guy!! he tried his best to help me understand the possible problems in my Car. I can give at least 5 reasons, why people should go and get their Car repaired in BLOCK AUTOMOTIVE:1) They prefer repair than replace, your pocket will love it.2) They don't lie, if there is no problem with your car, they will say there is no problem with it and if something is there they will not exaggerate it.3) Most of the time people drive car, they don't understand much about car. They educate you and help you understand your car better.4)Customer is treated like king unlike the dealerships. One cannot understand this difference unless he or she has faced the rude treatment from the dealership people.5)Last but not the least, they will not charge you for the diagnostics if you get back with in 90 days. What a deal, I never came across such offer in my life time.I recommend this workshop to everybody who love their car and want to save some money on car repair.

About two weeks I noticed I was losing gas in my 2008 Cheverlot Cobalt (at time when gas is high as ever). Turns out I had a leak in my fuel line. I called Block Automotive was greeted by a nice woman who kindly directed me to Mark and he told me exactly what diagnostic process he would perform on the car to see the issue.I had my car towed to Mark on late Thursday when he had about six cars before mine. Being closed on the weekend, Mark had my car ready Thursday with a more than reasonable price. Extremely honest and professional mechanic and well ran business, will be coming back for any future repairs and diagnostics.

I have used Mark Block for 15+ years. My entire family uses him as their trusty mechanic :) He is an extremely honest and trustworthy man. We bought a van December 2012 from City Auto and they sold us a car knowing there was a problem. After many visits back to City Auto, we demanded that they let us take it to Mark to fix. He fixed the problem and was willing to work out the billing to City Auto. Last week, the alternator went out on the same van. Mark told my husband that he thought that is what he replaced on the van in January 2013. We found the receipt and sure enough it was the alternator. He saved us $250 because he was honest. We have always found him to be honest and would tell us if a car wasn't worth repairing instead of fixing a car that he knew would have other issues that would be too costly. He checks out our used cars before we buy them and also will take the time to give us car advice on the phone. He is a very kind, Christian man. We are very thankful for him and all the ways he has blessed our family over the years.

Mark (the owner) is friendly, polite and honest. His prices are unbeatable. Service is fast and reliable, and what's more is that he fully stands behind his work. As far as I know, they do everything except body work and tire repair/replacement. I bought a '99 Tahoe which needed quite a bit of work, including a new engine, all of which was done by Mark and I have no complaints. She now purrs like a kitten. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

I left my daughter s 2009 Ford Escape with Mark Block at Block Automotive in Cordova, TN on Thursday night (08/16/18) due to an extremely soft brake pedal. On Friday, Mark called me and quoted me a price of $454 to replace the master brake cylinder and said that it would be ready by the end of the day. (total of two hours labor). I called Block Automotive late that afternoon to see if my vehicle was ready since no one had called me. I was told by one of his employees that he would call me back but did not. Needless to say, I didn t get my vehicle back on Friday. Mark called me Saturday morning stating that he was have a problem resetting the computer code on my Ford and another Ford that was still in his shop. He did apologize for not calling me back on Friday. Monday, I called again to see if my vehicle was ready and was told by Mark that the new master cylinder might have been defective, so he was sending it back and was going to put a new one on. Tuesday, no call again, so I called and was told Mark was test driving a vehicle but that he would call me back. Needless to say, he didn t. Wednesday, I finally got a call from Mark saying that he replaced my master cylinder with another new one but the problem was still not fixed. Obviously the first master cylinder was not defective, it simply was not the cause of the problem. He then said he found a used ABS module for $265 and that it would cost me another three hours labor plus shop fees and tax. (over $600) When asked if he was sure that was the problem, to make a long explanation short, he advised me that it is the only logical conclusion as there is no way to test the ABS module and basically was using a process of elimination. I told him no thanks based on the original misdiagnosis, poor communication, and no guarantee that the used ABS module will correct the problem. (Not to mention the inconvenience of having to drive my grown daughter to and from work for five days.) Bottom line is that six days later, I m out $454 and taking my Ford to the dealership to fix the same problem I brought it in for, a soft brake pedal. Since obviously, my problem was not corrected and I had to pay for a master cylinder that I did not need, I cannot recommend this shop much less spend well over $600 more to have them take an educated guess/process of elimination solution to the problem. I am also filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.*RESPONSE TO OWNER'S RESPONSE: I can live with most of his response except Mark states that he offered to replace my old master cylinder and only charge me a minimum checkout fee and that "I DECLINED/MY CHOICE". NOT TRUE! I would have jumped all over that offer. Instead the only offer was to put my old master cylinder back on but that I would still owe the labor, not a minimum checkout fee. I couldn't see the point in that since the part was only $150 and they had already had my vehicle six days, so yes, I did decline that offer. Also, just to clarify, Mark says he worked on my vehicle for "free". Seeing as how he was paid $455 to "not" fix the problem that I brought it in for, I hardly see that as working on my vehicle for free. Again, he "tried" to fix the problem with my daughter's soft brake pedal but the bottom line is the problem was never fixed.

First I will start off by saying that they did a great job with fixing the issue with my car which was an oil leak from the oil pan and a rear main seal oil leak. He also repaired motor mounts that he said I needed. I felt the price for that entire job was a solid and competitive price as well; so no complaints there. However, there were a couple of other issues that came from the time when the car was in their care. There is a constant squeak (from my engine pulley I believe) that squeaks when the car is running and a vibrating/rubbing sound coming from under the car on the left drivers side when I drive and come to a normal stop at a stop sign.To be fair I do have a radiator leak and he said that is coming from the radiator leak. Only problem with that is I had a radiator leak before I got it to them and never experienced a squeaking sound like that beforehand. Also he said my bad brakes was causing the vibrating/rubbing sound but again I knew my brakes were bad and never once experienced the aforementioned vibrating/rubbing sound either. He even did some form of homemade remedy with some spray and baby powder to help stop the squeaking noise but It was only temporary. He also put the car on the lift where he showed me the bad brakes but again, I already knew my brakes were bad. While I appreciated him putting forth an effort to try and help, the baby powder remedy did not seem very professional at all to me and that put the writing on the wall.Instead of doing that, There should have been some form of empathy shown to me in this situation (like maybe price down the next repair for the radiator leak or another repair that he quoted). If that type of empathy was shown, at the very least I would have continued with potential future repairs. Its situations like this where customer service is so important because it makes all the difference. He seems to be a great guy and he was very nice but in the end you want to show some form of empathy for people in these situations. People like myself are spending hundreds or even thousands of hard earned dollars and are trusting you with their vehicles. Its a shame because I was hoping he could be my solution to having a great mechanic that I could do business with for years to come. Now I cannot recommend nor continue doing business with them. One bad apple may not spoil the bunch in this case; but negligence like this could ruin the garden.*Update* Just found out that my exhaust was ruined also. My dual exhaust has been bent and not reinstalled properly; which means I will now have to purchase a new one.

Block Automotive is a great place. The service is good and they are very honest. We are repeat customers and will continue to be. On one occasion we brought our car in for a repair and got a price for the work with a used part. After the fact the used part didn t come through in time so Block installed a brand new part and didn t charge any extra. Their prices are fair and they are quick to call out work that doesn t need to be done, even when I thought it may, which has saved us money on countless occasions. I would highly recommend them.

My wife and I have been customers of Block Automotive for almost 10 years, and they have always performed phenomenal work for us. Last week, there was a transmission problem that was difficult to diagnose for our '99 Honda Accord, and his shop did great work in correctly diagnosing it. Also, he consulted several part dealers to find the best deal that he could to keep the repair cost down. With his attention to detail, he found the same part for $200 less than what another dealer quoted. With another experience with the same car, we thought we were looking at a new transmission, and we had to have the car towed to the shop. He found that the transmission fluid was excessively overfilled. He serviced the transmission, and there was no other work needed! Block could have been dishonest and done extra, unnecessary work, but he was very honest and only performed what we needed. We also have a '01 Camry, and his shop has done exceptional work for us with this car as well. Thank you Block Automotive, you guys are a God-send!

Mark Block is an honest and excellent mechanic. He always takes care of my truck issues at a price that is more than fair. I drive 50 minutes to take my truck to his shop. I highly recommend Block Automotive.

The folks there are great! They did the job right. Prices for diagnostics and labor are pretty standard. I'd give the 5 stars but in my experience it takes a long while to get repairs. Maybe a staffing issue? But still, this is my spot for car repairs. Good dudes doing good work.

I can't overstate the excellence of Block Automotive. Mark Block is without a doubt the most honest and competent auto repair shop owner I've ever worked with. Local dealers subcontract work to Block when their demand is over capacity, or the job is too difficult for them to handle. Mark has frequently talked me out of spending money; his shop rates for the work he performs are reasonable. If a dealer wants to stick it to you for an expensive repair, I recommend obtaining a second opinion from Block Automotive. When I've been out of town travelling, someone from Block has driven my wife back home while the work was being performed. I suppose he stands behind is work, but we've never had to take a car back - they've always fixed our problems correctly the first time. Incredible!

Mark and his team of mechanics are awesome. I have never trusted mechanics from bad past experiences but now I have found THE BEST and the most HONEST mechanic in town. I will never trust my vehicle to anyone else. Totally recommend them. I leave there knowing that I paid a fair price and the work is guaranteed.

I took my SUV to Block Automotive a few weeks ago due to a problem with my horn going off when the truck was parked or when driving. The dealership had told me that they would have to go through the steering wheel/ airbag to correct the problem. This was not the case with Block. After switching around a few wires, my problem was resolved!! Had not had a working horn the last 2 years. It is nice to know that there are still some honest, professional people who can get the job done and not try and rip you off. Thanks guys. I will be back!!Also I recommended my sister to you all and she took her Ford Focus in after going to 3 different mechanics. Block fixed the problem with her ignition/ relay switch and her car is cranking/ starting now as soon as she turns the key!!! Two success stories. Way to go Block! Keep people coming back.

UPDATE****I absolutely cannot believe that a Christian man would lie as much as Mark Block has lied in his response to my review. He won't respond to the BBB complaint that I filed, but he is on Google with these childish unprofessional responses. Respond to the BBB complaint, please. If you focused as much attention on your repairs and customer services skills as you do trying to intimidate and insult people, you might not get these types of negative complaints on your business. Reading these negative unprofessional responses Block left on this site should be enough to stop people in general from doing business with him. The responses are absolutely immature and pathetic and are not responses that should come from a Business Owner, let alone one that claims to be Christian. These responses from Block are extremely embarrassing to say the least. Block, if you decide to respond again please leave me your Pastor's name and number so I can invite him to read your negative responses to these reviews. Responses to Block's reply that he seems to have removed a second time: Mark Block continues to be spiteful and vindictive and extremely unprofessional by calling my vehicle "tired, old and worn out." Block stated that he fixed the starter wire and that is a lie. He never mentioned anything to me about the starter wire and did not fix a starter wire or the starter during the first visit to his shop. A non mechanic never repaired the starter on my vehicle no one had touched the starter prior to Block replacing it. On the second visit Block charged me a $44 electrical check, so he lied about not charging me on the second visit to his shop. I never said that we were trying to pay less as possible to fix the vehicle, he charged me over $900 within in a few days which is not a cheap repair, so that is another lie, I just wanted the vehicle fixed and did not put any limitations on the repairs that needed to be made. If the list of what was wrong with the vehicle was lengthy, then why would he not let me know everything that was wrong, is that not what an honest Christian mechanic would do? Block never volunteered to warranty his work and initially told me NO, he would not warranty the work, but after I mentioned his advertisement in the Shepherds Guide he reluctantly said the he would honor the warranty on the vehicle. At that point I decided dealing with him further would not be in my best interest. I never called Mark Block from the dealership and he never replaced a catalytic converter on my van, this was another lie. I never threatened to have an attorney to contact Block, this was another lie. Not sure how I wanted anything for FREE from this man, he can't even deliver when he is being paid over $900 so I would hate to see what his FREE work is like. I am convinced that Mark Block suffers from some type of disorder that forces him to lie compulsively.***My Original review***My family and I have done business with Block many times over the past few years, initially we thought we were getting good honest service from a man who claims to be a Christian, but recently we realized that he was not being completely honest with us about certain repairs that needed to be made to one of our vehicles. He inconvenienced us by not fixing issues that he knew that needed to be repaired but didn't tell us. We even questioned if some the parts he replaced were really bad. Either way his attitude and dishonesty was enough for us to do business elsewhere. He also advertises in the Shepherd's Guide online which is a Christian Directory of Businesses. Good honest Christian people don't leave out important details on repairs or inconvenience good loyal customers like he did to us. And I question why he believes that he or his business is worthy enough to advertise in a Christian Directory that advertises good honest Christian business people within integrity that you can trust.

I'd give them more stars if I could! We were passing through Memphis on a Friday afternoon in need of wheel bearing replacements. Mark and his guys jumped on it, took great care of our truck, got us out the door by 5, and charged a more-than-fair price. So relieved and so thankful! If we lived in the area they would be our go-to mechanics. We'll try not to hit them with emergency repairs on a Friday afternoon next time... thank you all so much!

I came to block thinking my truck needed motor work. Mr Block took his time to diagnose my truck. Fortunately nothing was wrong with my truck. I couldn't have asked for a more honest and friendly experience with a professional mechanic. If and when I do have any issues with my vehicle's I will definitely be visiting Mr Block.

I am so thankful to have found Block Automotive. It is absolutely crucial to know a mechanic who can be trusted. I wanted to find a mechanic who was up to date with automotive trends, very knowledgeable, and accurate. I wanted to take my car for service and/or repair, with the faith that it will be done right the first time. I wanted a mechanic who would be honest with me and tell me when repairs were needed, and what repairs were NOT needed...or could wait. In other words, a mechanic who would help me keep my car in great shape, without unnecessary money thrown at it. I found all this in Block Automotive. What a blessing!

First off left me say I really hate to write this because the owner is extremely nice and was highly recommend by some friends of ours. But I got my Ram 1500 towed to them because it had knock in the motor and they told me that is was a bad motor and that it would be around $7,000 to replace. And since I'm not rich I said I couldn't do that right now. So I got it towed back to my house. Then I got a buddy of mine to help me with it he took the valve covers off and figured out all i had was a stretched timing chain that was rattling when you crank the motor now after replacing the timing chains motor runs amazing. So not really sure what this shop did to check my motor but I wouldn't recommend them nor will I be back to donate any money to them.

I have been a customer of Block Automotive since they opened the doors and will not go anywhere else. I have always been more than satisfied and do not have a single complaint. The service performed has always been great - Mark Block will do his very best to make the repair right the first time and as inexpensive as possible.

I had my 94 f150 towed to this shop for a diagnostic with some engine trouble. When I got my truck back the drivers window was down and the key was left in the ignition in my driveway. When I got inside to let the window up it barely moved. I never had any trouble with this window previously. Then to top it off when I tried to get out I noticed the inside door handle was broken off. It looks like possibly other small things had been removed from the vehicle as well. The spare tire holder had been tampered with. I am completely appalled with this behavior and just cannot in good conscience recommend this shop.

I love this place. My alternator was bad and the guy at Autozone recommended Block Automotive for my Acura TL. I called and got an estimate on price and time. Both estimates were accurate. I got an estimate from Honda Haven for $550 plus tax, but they said the part was $400, which seemed really high to me. I could not get a quote from Wolfchase Honda. My price at Block Automotive was $380, which is what they said on the phone. The waiting area was excellent. They have couches, but I opted for the leather recliner. They also have a very sweet dog in the waiting area. The dog really helped relieve my stress (I am always stressed when my car is having problems).I was in and out in under a hour and 30 minutes, which made me very happy. All the staff was very polite and friendly. If you could not tell, I was very pleased with my service and will return.
