My customer service was excellent at Holt Transmission at 6770 Rivers Av. N. Charleston. I was greeted by Jeff Holt the owner, great personality, very professional and cared about my concerns and address everyone. Jeff even went above and beyond. He made sure when I left with my car it was at it's best performance. Thank you Jeff and your team for a great job. Carolyn Watson. I must add to my post, I have to be honest here, when I first wrote this post I thought my car was fine. I took my car in for a transmission pan, and motor mount issue, they came back with I needed a break line fixed. I wasn't loosing any break fluid or had any problems before that. When the mechanic showed me ,fluid was just gushing out. That had to be fixed, then I get a call that my other motor mount need to be replaced and I had to replace another part . Then I get a call that they can't turn my car off for what ever reason. I told Jeff don't do anything else to my car, but by the time I get there my entire steering wheel was dismantled. When it got put back together I just left. On top of this my car is running and sounding bad so I checked my transmission fluid to find out that it was low 2 and a half transmission fluid and my motor is pushed up and leaning very badly which it wasn't like that when I took it to them. I didn't want Holt Transmission to touch it again so I took it elsewhere to find out that my front frame got bent, how I don't know. The people that checked it said that they should have told me this before they did any work to my car, because that could have caused all the other problems . They said nothing to me. He said that my transmission pan is leaking and that I needed to take it back to them to correct it. I did and the bolts was loose is all they told me. Through all of this I spent $955.00 with Holt Transmission and my car is worse than when it went in. Now I have to replace the front frame and pray that nothing else is wrong one they start taking it apart. My cost for this repair is over $1500.00 which I don't have right now. I'm hurt and disappointed and won't recommend taking your car here. Yes at first I thought it was a great place to take your car however once had my car back for a week I saw differently. Yes the owner Jeff fixed a few things but, it doesn't compare to what I need to do now to get my car working right now.I change my 5 stars to 2 stars.

My mom had her van at Dodge on Savannah Hwy for over a month just for a diagnosis. After a month we moved it to Holt Transmission who not only had the parts in stock they completed it and had her back and up in running in two days. She couldn't be more happy to have her own wheels back. Jeff and his team are amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable at what they do and of course cheaper than the dealerships. I've already recommended others to Jeff and can honestly say that I will only go to him and recommend others to Holt Transmission from now on.

I dropped off my truck on Monday in need of extensive transmission work among other problems. All my dash indicators were on!Holt had her back good as new by Wednesday afternoon. No more warning lights, drives great! Ahead of schedule and right on budget. Many thanks!

Nathan and the Holt team were fantastic! He went over my transmission for several hours, test drove it, and didn't charge me a dime. I insisted he change my transmission oil, so I could pay them something! I'll never go to any other transmission service center!

Edit I finally received a call from the owner after my original one star review and took my truck into their Sam Rittenberg location were they replaced the torque converter and all seems to be working properly now.Beware of these scam artists. I spent over 5k to have more problems than I started with. I ve taken it back several times to have them look at it, as well as their other location and nothing improves. I originally inquired about having a new transmission installed but was talked out of because they said I would have the same issues. I wish I only had the same issues now!!!They kept it a week or more twice after the initial rebuild and the last time right before the warranty went up they changed the fluid and told me to drive a few hundred miles. Now that I drive it out of warranty as they told me to do, they are completely unresponsive citing the owner needs to look at it but he never seems to be around.

Absolute NIGHTMARE!I would NEVER recommend these guys to my worst enemy. First of all, they had my car for 45 days. It was one thing after another that they couldnt repair. On top of that, they never called me. I always had to call them. I picked up the car 3 different times and each time the car was not fixed properly. They charged me $4500 for the repairs and wouldn't even give me a 2 year warranty, because 'it was an extra charge'. I could seriously go on and on but I have already wasted too much of my life on these guys. I would NEVER EVER EVER take your car to these people. All they do is over promise and under deliver. When I first dropped my car off on a Tuesday, they told me it would be ready by that Friday.... 40 days later I was able to pick it up and its still not right! I am still trying to get it fixed and now I am most likely going to have to sell it because its just not worth the risk of being stranded somewhere. It really is just not worth taking the risk to trust these folks with your vehicle.. Overpriced and unreliable.Service: Transmission

Holt was recommended to me to evaluate a potential transmission leak. Mark the manager at Holt was very thorough and kind in checking out my car. He determined that there was a very slow drip and recommended not undertaking any repairs at this time. Additionally, he would not take any money for checking out my car. I appreciate his honesty and professionalism, and certainly will be going back to him if and when the transmission does require repair or replacement.Service: General repairs & maintenance

When you first take your vehicle that I asked for a cash deposit and then I take it up the card and charge whatever they want and the vehicle is not complete and comes out of their worse than what it was now you have to fight them in court my vehicle was just having a transmission problem I offered to buy a new transmission and then put it in heat asked me not to do that to let him rebuild it guy named Mark come to find out he's got a different mechanics in the shop everyday get there to pick up my vehicle and find out that it's skipping and they said they've done all they can do this vehicle was not like that when it was dropped off then they told me that they will be done in 3 days which took 4 weeks now I have my vehicle sitting in the driveway being towed to my house and nothing to do with it because I don't know all the transmission place they can fix it they will absolutely rob you for your money somebody's got to do something about them I'm taking them to court and they have robbed me for $3,500 and think they're going to get away with itService: Transmission

First of all they saw us coming John said he likes to take care of people from out of town and he sure did he way over charged us and the sway bar link was loose as well as sway bar bushing also did not get tightened up it could have fell apart on my way home 800 miles away, our family could have been injured or worse. We had this verified by a Chevrolet dealership when we got home. John is a nice guy but not honest. It all started with the transmission, we added too much Trans fluid, we couldnt tell how much due to our car not having a dipstick, we asked him to just remove some of the extra fluid, the car was fine before that, he said he would have to do an inspection which would cost 489.00, he drove the car and said that he had good news, he didn't believe that it had to be replaced or rebuilt but he would know more after he gets inside. That was Friday, we did not hear from him again until Monday and then the transmission needed to be replaced, and he conveniently had the parts he needed for my car in his shop, 3400.00 and 5 days later we got our car back. He said he had to replace a speed sensor on the front tire and it would be no charge, im sorry but you don't replace a 250.00 sensor unless you messed it up in the first place. I would NEVER recommend this place!!!

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. Two weeks ago today my transmission went out. I did not know if my car being 14 years old, and 207,000 miles was even worth fixing, Jeff assured me that they fix transmissions every day in cars the age of mine. He gave me a good estimate and said they would look around at everything while they had the transmission out. Sure enough they did find a couple of things. I had a seal leaking oil, (I knew was leaking oil, because I am always adding oil) and the water pump was going out. This too I was expecting because my idiot light had come on a couple of times) Firestone told me if it kept coming on I might need to have it checked out So they fixed those too for a very fair price. Had my vehicle ready and back to me in the time frame promised. The money was exactly what we had discussed. My car drives like a dream. I was so confident in their work, I took my car on a road trip alone the next weekend. I never know if I can trust mechanics or not but these guys are very trustworthy! I give them 5 (out of 5) stars!!!

Great customer service. Received my free quote which is all I requested. Holt has a very good reputation. If my car wasn't so old & had other issues, I definitely would have them do the work.

These guys are the best very fast and professional. I wouldn t go anywhere else anymore. If you need transmission work you will not go wrong with mark and these guys here at Holts. I was unsure at first but Mark gave me a day and time and by golly it was done at that exact time even though my car needed more work than expected. I was so happy and the price was fare and they even did some things they really didn t even have to do so Mark you are the man and thanks again also a shout out to Benny thanks brother

Mack's Garage recommended that I go to them for my transmission. They were very nice. They were honest with me when they told me what was wrong with my transmission. Instead of taking my money they told me that they couldn't guarantee that it would last because of the age and mileage on my car. I really appreciated that. I recommend you go to them for any transmission.

Since this post, I received a personal phone call from the owner, Jeff Holt and he was more than willing to explain and apologize for service I deemed unexceptable. He ensured me that it was not the business practice for customers to leave unhappy and we both agreed "miscommunication" is possible with human being. I have much more respect for him and the business and will definitely be doing business with him again.I recently took a vehicle to the location on River's Avenue and the experience was absolutely horrible and a rip off. The vehicle would move but once hot, it would not move. Before the transmission was token out I asked what would be a price range for repairs. He (the manager) told me that it would range from $1,500-2,000. I decided to go with it figuring max price would only be $2k. When he called me back a few days later, he told me it would cost over $3k to fix and he could possibly find me a rebuilt for $2,500. The vehicle was a 2009, but he stated that $2k would be max initially. Coming from a manager who have been in business for 30 plus years, I felt he would not be that far off from an initial quote. I ultimately decided to fix the car at a price of $2,200 roughly because I felt there was not another option without losing out on the $430 he charged me to take the transmission out. I was recommended by Hill's Tire and if possible, please stay away from this location and franchise. ##SHADY

Took my car to find out what's squeaking to a local mechanic. He told it would be $800 to fix the squeak and replace stuff that was perfectly fine. Took it to Holts, they tighten the belt and added lube and said if I hear a squeak bring it back. They didn't charge me a dime. A couple of days in and no squeaking at all. They went out of there way to find out the squeal and even went the extra mile to fix it for free. I'm very grateful. At Holts (Mark and the mechanic) was honest and kind.(Mark) was at the desk, the service was great and the customer service. May your business prosper.Thank you Mark I really appreciate it, you all have a new customer!Update: about 2 months has passed and still no squeaks! I saved $800 dollars.

Mark Thank you. You are an exceptional person. If anyone is in need of transmission work I bet my bottom dollar on these guys literally. I knew after searching several places Mark and Holts transmission would make sure my families safe again and our vehicle back in working order at a fare price. Mr. Mark did a great job repairing my transfer case and all that goes along with it. He was very honest and up front about what he needed to do and what it would cost. He also had a financing plan that let me get all the work done, and done right.Thank you for your hard work and honest work ethic!

Holt has had my car almost two months and had to replace the transmission not once but twice. The customer service sucks. If it wasn't for me calling them I wouldn't have known what was going on with my car. In the time frame they have had my car the person that has been working on it has been sick three times (either they need to fire this employee find some help because is he the only person that can work in my car)! I've dealt with Holt before as to why I went to them again but now they have left an awful taste on my mouth.

Complete SCAM artist. Took Expedition there to get noise checked out and they said it was the transfer case and wanted $300 to take it off and inspect it. After reading reviews of Holt I decided to check it out myself. It was not the transfer case but the 4wd front differential. Very evident by just turning the drive shaft. So Holt was just going to charge me $300 for something the already knew wasn't the problem. DO NOT GO HERE. The locals told me to stay away. Next time I will listen. Hope this helps someone else not get taken. Looks like the other good reviews are all fake.

Holt trasmission has been absolutely wonderful. When my car acted up and dad said we needed a transmission shop dad said call holt. I'm so glad we did. Mark has been outstanding! He's professional and compassionate and very friendly! He was willing to take a look at the car and tell us what was wrong and was able to give us a rough estimate on the cost. When the cost was way way out of our price range... Mark was very patient in giving us time to see about getting a loan which of course we were unable to do.. Mark stepped up and went above and beyond for us. He was able to help us obtain some financing and then worked out a payment plan with us for the rest. He spent a good amount of time working with us both in person and on the phone. He immediately put us at ease with his smile and friendly manner. He was very clear and upfront and honest about the transmission and what needed to be done to fix our car. What impressed me the most is how hard he worked to help us fix our car. He was great thru the whole process he smiled and reassured us he was gonna get our car fixed one way or another.. In this day not many people out there who are willing to go the extra mile! I'm so.glad my dad said go ro holts transmission. I highly recommend them!.

My family drove from NJ to Florida this past summer, and our transmission burnt out halfway on the trip. We found Holt Transmission in charleston s.c., and I must say, that Gary the manager treated us very well. He not only rebuilt the trans in three days, but he took the time to genuinely care about our predicament and help us into another vehicle to salvage our vacation.It ended up costing about $3200 but the trans was destroyed, and that price was fair.We purchased the National warranty plan for $400, bu so far (6 months) the Honda pilot 2004 drives perfectly... they certainly did a professional job.

I would NOT recommend. I told them what was wrong with the vehicle. They KNEW it would be a few a weeks before I know if the repairs were approved. They did NOT tell me they were going to charge me a storage a fee/estimate fee. I junked the vehicle for $220 & had to pay them $210 for for storage/estimate fees. They are not upfront and honest.

The reverse went out in my Silverado after 220,000 miles. Along with it went my 2nd and overdrive.. After a little research I decided to go with Gary at the West Ashley location. He gave me an honest quote and it was obvious he has seen the same problem prior. Other transmission shops said, "Well that's odd!?"Gary explained the main problems that he thought occurred and I could tell he wasn't just trying to b/s me. I pretty much told him to go for the rebuild, but they insisted to run the diagnostic first, then call to verify my options. Which I thought was very honest.He called back during the later half of the job and listed a few recommendations that would lengthen the life of the vehicle further; including re-boring a few valves, rear main trans seal, transfer case seals, and some attention to lubricating the transfer case. There were a couple issues I knew needed attention prior to the rebuild, like the transfer case, so I approved. Then right there he gave me an estimate including tax and labor. That estimate did not change, and honestly I feel like I got a great deal.When I picked the truck up, Jeff was there. He was Very nice and both him and Gary explained their excellent warranty, and threw in a free transmission flush after a year! Jeff even invited me to play golf with him on Fridays. I doubt that would happen at a different transmission shop!Great, friendly people that are trying to please customers and grow clientele. I would recommend anyone with car trouble to their operation.

I have gone to this location on two separate occasions about two years apart with different vehicles. Each time the manager has simply driven it around the block and then proceeded to tell me it's a major fix that will cost $1,400 or more to fix. When I have gone to get a second opinion from A dealership it's been minor things that cost $550.00. If your a woman or a man who doesn't know a lot about transmissions DO NOT GO HERE. You will spend unnecessary money.

Had my wife's Mazda 6 towed to Holt transmissions after it severely overheated. I thought the engine might have been blown. Daryl the manager at the Summerville location totally hooked me up. Turned out it was just a busted T connector in the coolant system. They fixed it the next day after getting the part from the dealership and the car is running great. Daryl kept me up to date as to the progress and what the cost would be and there were no surprises. Overall a great experience, would definitly use them again.

Don't ever bring your vehicle to that place, I paid $2,800 for transmission repair, and after 7 months broke again. Guess what! I toked to Griffin Transmission and they found out that, Holt Transmission put USED parts in my Vehicle. Teaf owners.

They bamboozled me out of nearly $600, I thought these guys were legit but they are not! Don't bring your vehicle to this location period! Rivers Avenue! The 1 star is for 1st and last time I deal with these scammers!

They have helped me at both of their locations, to track down a troublesome problem that felt like a transmission issue because the engine would jerk between gears at low speeds, but it was actually a motor mount problem. They worked with me until it was right, and at a very fair price. I am sure there are some shops that would "take you for a ride" and sell a new transmission, but not at Holt! Feels almost like driving a new car now! There is not a mechanic you can trust more than these people, whether it is transmission work or general repair.
