*PLEASE READ THIS*I called 7 Transmission places to see where I wanted to send my truck to get the Transmission place and NEW RIVER was the place. Mr.John talked with me a guided me threw the process as the other 6 places sounded like they didn't have a care in the world if I brought my truck to them or not. So the truck wasn't even running and Mr.John fixed my truck without it even running. People that SPEAKS VOLUME of this man and how PROFESIONAL HE IS AND his company.Thank you You Mr.John and for your service on my truck!! Hopefully I don't have to call ypu for my warranty and I pretty sure I want because my New Transmission is shifting better then it did from the Factory....

They are great and try to keep in touch with you on updates. Always down to go the extra mile to make sure you re well and your car is safely running. You also get a good warranty on your transmission fix. If there was any transmission place, this is the one to choose.

The owner said our 2010 Mercury Milan needed the transmission rebuilt for $3500. It actually only needed the trans cooling lines replaced (2) total cost $250. The trans is fine. What a scam artist, He should be in jail!!!

My transmission went out on my Silverado, and of all the shops in this area, I went with John s. There is absolutely no replacement for experience, and John has been in the transmission business for years.John and his staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and motivated. He was able to diagnose the issue within a short amount of time. Price was very reasonable for parts and labor performed, but factoring the 36k mile/3 year warranty into it and it makes it a very good price indeed. The transmission was not only fixed but upgraded to prevent the chance of this particular failure from happening again and shifts and functions perfectly. All of this was done in 5 days!I hope my truck doesn t have transmission issues again, but if it does - I ll bring it to John and his crew.Service: Transmission

Excellent service. John gave us a quick diagnostic after our car broke down in the middle of our trip. He went far an beyond on his service by being flexible on his schedule and by explaining what needed to be done. We picked it up later and we were able to get home safely with no issues.

New River is one of the amazing shops in the Beaufrot County Area. They have amazing service, and great attitudes. My transmission went out about four months ago when I was on vacation from North Carolina to Hilton Head, an he had the parts for the transmission with in a few days and had me up and running in about a week. He also gave me a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty with the repair, and his price was fair for the repair. They are also very respectful of your car, cleaning it and putting down floor mats to ensure that they are clean when your car leaves the shop. I could not be more pleased with the work from this shop. John Murphy and his staff are truly amazing. When I would call he was always quick to return my phone calls, and make sure that I was confident that the repair would be done right. I would also like to say that his shop his family operated with his wife Sally Murphy. She was also very helpful and amazing when I called and she answered. I don't think you could ask for a better Automotive shop in the county area.Thank you so much for all your great help and wonderful service. Its been a few months now and my transmission is still running beautiful like nothing ever happened.

I am extremely satisfied with the service I received here. John was the ONLY mechanic within miles of Beaufort that was willing to work on my transmission (9-speed automatic CVT), and now my car drives like a dream. Great great experience. I was driving to Hilton Head from Charlotte with my wife and 4 year old for our summer vacation about 10 miles away the transmission started slipping and jerking Thankfully we made it to the hotel The tow truck driver recommended New River transmission and boy I m glad he did. From the first moment I talked to John I felt more at ease He was extremely polite and professional The tow truck driver told me it would be at least a week before I could get a new transmission but John assured me he could do it in a few and man did he come through At a very reasonable price too. Thanks guys for saving our vacation

I started having problems with what I thought was the transmission on my 2006 Ford Explorer. Not being from around here, just moved down in July I asked around. Spoke to manager at the Firestone store on 278 and he recommended New River. Granted he took a while to get back to me but recommended that I should rebuild the transmission. After rebuilding the transmission, the problem that I was having was not the transmission at all. John was a perfect gentlemen and we came to a very generous settlement that I was very happy with. Very honest and I would recommend him to anyone.

John took such great care of us. We were visiting Hilton Head and our axel broke on us. John was able to get us in quickly and fixed it immediately. I can t say enough great things about New River, they were kind, great pricing, and knowledgeable. You won t regret trusting New River! Thank you John!!!!

I came down to the area on vacation and was having transmission issues when I arrived. I spent about an hour looking for a good mechanic on my phone calling local shops and looking at reviews. Its hard to find a good shop with people you can trust 1000 miles from home. They quickly diagnosed my truck and rebuilt my transmission in a day and a half. I wish my warranty company was that good..The day I had to drive back home at 8am on a Saturday (they were closed) I had a separate issue with the truck that would have left my wife and I on the side of the road. The owner told me to call if I had any issues. Surprisingly he answered (he was supposed to be on his boat that day) and met me at the shop in 15mins. Had me back in the road in 30 mins replacing the part and going above and beyond for someone in need! Great people there excellent service!!Hands-down a great veteran owned business!!

My daughters 2003 Jeep Wrangler transmission started making noise and shifting hard. I called New River Trans. John was very professional and said to bring it in for a free diagnosis. As I suspected, the trans needed overhaul. John repaired it and had us back on the road in two and a half days. The Jeep/trans is perfect.These guys are the absolute best I've ever dealt with... Great service, price, warranty, very professional and honest people! Highly recommend New River Transmissions!!THANKS JOHN!

So this happened a while back but I wasn't able to find the time to write a review until now. I was moving out of SC and trying to find a transmission shop to take care of my car. I called New River and John answered and TOLD ME EVERYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR OVER THE PHONE. He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to his job. I didn't even need to take my car in because he told me my car was fine. Just doing that deserves 10 stars if I could give it

Great communication, speak with owner John every time I called, known the owner and family 20 years, repaired multiple vehicles of mine over the years. He knows transmissions and he's a former Marine. Highly recommend. - resident since '88

Needed help with installing our new Instructor braking system. Being familiar and having used New River Transmission in the pass, I called John. He had me bring our cars over and the installs were done same day. I would not trust my cars to anyone else.Service: BrakesService: Brakes

Worst service EVER !!! first we got TOLD a date that the truck was going to be ready that never happened, then we never received a call to advise us that it would take longer, they did not answer or call us back, after almost two weeks that we got our truck back we had to evacuate to NC but for our surprise the transmission started with problems again , we had to pay a towing service to bring it back to Bluffton. We wait for Thursday to gave time as we understand the situation of the evacuation and the owner did nothing to help with the problem caused to his poor job and no cared that we are missing days of work !!! We do understand the crazy days we all went with Hurricane Irma but if you did a poor job at least try to helps your clients and do not make them wait 5 days ...

John did a great job diagnosing my problem (not the transmission, as it turned out). Couldn't ask for a better or more trustworthy mechanic. If I ever do need transmission work, I'll definitely go to New River.

Traveller from out of town/state and brought my truck in for diagnosis back in Oct of this year ... possible transmission problem. It was related that I needed a complete new transmission to the tune of approx $3700.00. It was further related that torque converter was shot related to trans breakdown. Note: I was able to drive truck to and from shop and it was showing a code for a "shifting selonoid." When I hesitated and displayed some concern on laying out $3700.00 bucks, the owner offered to purchase my truck, repair it and sell it as there was a market there for used 4WD trucks apparently. It was at this point I began to question the integrity of this shop and decided to have truck shipped home to have properly diagnosed. Once home, did have shift solenoid replaced but main problem was a clogged catalytic converter. Transmission itself was fine. I just felt there was an attempt to take advantage of a stranded out-of-towner or maybe just didn't take the time and effort to properly diagnose. Either way, NOT COOL and not what I would expect from a professional.Service: Transmission

Took my Yukon there for a transmission rebuild supposed to be done this week... Amazing to be able to get it done during the holiday season... Highly recommended by many local repair shops... specifically Auto Pros on Hilton Head Island

New River Transmission is the place for all your transmission work .Mr. John , returned my call on a Saturday and arranged for my car to be picked up on monday and my car was ready on Wednesday .He is a very honest man , you have my recommendations for New River Transmission. Happy customer! my car is running great

Horrible experience. I brought my car to this shop because I lost 2nd gear. I asked them to fix 2nd gear and replace the slave cylinder and clutch. I waited over two weeks before someone had even looked at my car. Another week passes and I was told that I need a new transmission. They said they don t make parts for my transmission any more. So I said I ll just come get the car, at which point they refused to put it back together, claiming they couldn t put it back together without new parts. So I had to call a tow truck to come and pick my car up to get it back to my house. The parts that were taken off my car we scattered all over their shop. I also had to come back on two separate occasions to get parts because they couldn t locate them when I was there to get my car. Long story short they were just trying to get more money out of me by saying I needed a new transmission and that they couldn t fix the old one. I have since taken it to a different shop and got the transmission fixed. Avoid this shop at all cost.

Childish and full of excuses. My vehicle sat for a month untouched always said it'll be ready soon. Finally went to see what the hold up was my car was exactly where I had left it. Unprofessional is an understatement.
