I went there after seeing many 5-star reviews but now I want to say it is not what it looks like. They charged me over $90 for checking if my AC works and told me I should replace the compressor which would be over $1000 in total. And later I found out it's the draining problem - no need to replace the compressor.This place does offer some good service but also they try to rip you off.

I did my research and found a lot of positive reviews for this garage. I needed some maintenance done to my car. I called and asked for a quote, and with the rate reasonable enough for a specific job, I made an appointment for one week later. I dropped my car off the night before, and was told they would get it in first thing in the morning, and the job would take about 3 hours. The service day, came and went. At closing, the garage called me and said they were busy, was it ok if they worked on the car the next day? I said, I guess I really did not have much choice if the work was not done yet.They said, they would start the next morning. At lunch time on the second day I called to check the status, they told me they had not started it yet, but would soon. Near closing time, I called, with no answer and their voice machine said it was full. I drove out, to find they were nearly finished with the car. They asked me to go to the office to wait. The owner came in and gave me my bill which was $100 higher than the quote. When I asked why, he replied the quote did not include parts, only labor. I have never been given a quote with only labor. It is supposed to be the price for everything, so you know what the job will cost. The job Stark's did, required the oil to be drained and filled at the end. I provided my own brand of oil. I also had my own filter. They overfilled the oil, and used a generic oil filter. When I said, I had my filter, they replied, they did not see that in the notes. I had to drain some oil out myself, because it was half a quart over full and smoked when the car started. They never apologized for not getting the car in when they said, and the work was sub par .Now if you think this is quality service, you are welcome to sign up for an appointment.

Awesome place for your auto repairs. Great people, honest and caring. This quality is rare to find today. I worked over the phone to coordinate the repair for my daughters car as I live 200 miles away. They fixed a problem that three other shops in town would not touch. They even came in on a Saturday to ensure the job was completed well ahead of the promised time frame. All this and a fair price as well!I would recommend this repair shop to anyone if you are in state college. I wish they were located in my home town!Thanks for rescuing my daughters last week in college. You guys are the best!

Dropped my antique vehicle off and they let it sit for 4 months without barely touching it to the point the paint and knobs faded. My transmission filled with water (it s an open top Jeep). Would have been nice to know it wasn t going to be worked on anytime soon and they kept telling me they d get to it soon. They treated my prized vehicle as a tinker project. 0/10 would recommend.

I had a coolant leak in my 2004 Jeep Liberty and I took it to Stark's as it was close as had great reviews. They surpassed my expectations. I was unsure if I had fixed the leak myself and they were willing to test the system for me. Their mechanics were personable and upfront. They will be the first shop I turn to if I run into any other trouble and would recommend them to any fellow Penn State students.

Best local service station I have ever found. Real people who talk straight about your repairs. These guys know cars/trucks. No BS. No hidden fees or surprises. Just good people who like to take care of cars and give good service. They know their automobiles.

I went to Starks for a service engine light and a coolant leak. Mike was very friendly and resolved the issues with no problem. He even gave me a ride back to town. Saw that I had a headlight out and offered to fix it too! Great people I wouldn t go to most other places in State College.

You cannot find a better shop for your auto repair, honest & trustworthy.Had to adjust this review. I had to replace my exaust manifold a 3rd time, starks auto replaced it after the 1st one they installed cracked. I took my SUV to a different shop, found out that the manifold cracked because the catalytic converter was bad, that caused the manifold to fail twice. Replaced everything _ going on 14 months without any problems.

Good honest work and they stand by the quality. My brakes were squealing off and on after replacement by them. It was intermittent and only when I first drove and took months to be able to demonstrate it. As soon as they heard it they redid the entire job and upgraded the pads for free to a quieter product.

I simply needed two bushings pressed out of arms that I had already taken off the car. The guy acted like I was wasting his time from the second I called. It was a very simple job that shouldn't take more then 30 minutes. I came in to drop them off and was greeted by a very rude man giving me an attitude. When I asked how much he thought it would be, he gruffly said "Long as it takes" while setting the arms down and not even looking at me. I started trying to tell him that was not at all an acceptable response, but he just walked away into the other room while I was talking! I have never in my life seen someone be so unprofessional. And who would ever expect a customer to not want an estimate??? Needless to say, I picked up my stuff and left. I went to a FRIENDLY mechanic who charged me 20 bucks. No one should give this place a penny.

I'm relatively new to the area and received a recommendation for Stark's. Being female, mechanics often feel they can take advantage of my perceived ignorance to problems - not the case at Stark's! They're honest, fully explain any issues and even suggest different repair approaches. Their prices are more than fair and I never leave feeling taken advantage of or that my car hasn't been given A1 service.

I called Stark s this afternoon four times to make an appointment to get my tires checked. They answered the phone, heard me speaking, and hung up. A friend suspected I might have sounded like a robocall. So for the last attempt I called and said right away hi, I m calling to make an appointment? And they hung up again. It s either they re having issues with their phone or, it s difficult not to think this way, with taking in certain clients.

Very nice. Called to ask if they could diagnose a mystery sound and was told to just come on over. Drove around with Mike for 5 minutes and he helped me pinpoint the sound. He brought me out into the shop to show me exactly what the problem was and what work needed to be done.
