So glad I found this garage to fix my son s car that broke down while attending PSU.I was strictly going off of reviews and now adding another. My son s car needed a new water pump and thermostat and they had everything replaced in 2 days. I checked with my local mechanic I trust and use and he gave me his price. Penn s Auto fixed everything for around the same price. They were great to deal with and communicated everything to me. Would recommend and definitely use again if needed. I'm really cautious on giving bad reviews, but I have to rate this place 1 star. They charged me lots of money for repairing. I went to two other places. One of them offered me 1/2 of the Penn's auto service's prices with the SAME service and another offered me 1/3 of their prices. Wow. I don't know why there are good reviews on this auto shop. Just avoid going there for overcharging!

Super awesome place to get your vehicle serviced. They are knowledgeable, quick yet very thorough and their prices are extremely reasonable. It was a pleasure during service with these guys. I highly recommend their services. I wish I knew about them sooner but now that I know they re right here in State College, I ll be sure to always bring my vehicles to them.Service: Steering & suspension repair

The best experience I ve ever had with a mechanic! Our AC stopped working on our way through State College while driving cross country. After being turned down by multiple places, Ferai was kind enough to let us drop in. He quickly figured out the problem, ordered a new compressor, and had us on our way within 2 hrs amazing! He is thoughtful, warm, and kind, with very reasonable pricing and he does great work. I wish we lived closer so we could go to him anytime we needed work done on our cars. We can t recommend him highly enough.

Excellent repair shop in State College. Really liked this shop in comparison to other shops that I've been to. The person working the desk is really nice and explains everything that they need to do and did so that I understand. They're also very quick with their service.I called on a Thursday for an airbag light going off on my dash and they told me to bring it in the next Tuesday. I dropped it off around 1 and then a few hours later I get a call detailing the problem and was able to pick the car up the next morning.While fixing the car, they also topped off the power steering oil since it was low (which really helped the car's steering afterwards). Found this to be nice since they saw a problem and fixed it.They only charged $60 for the diagnostic, compared to $150 that a dealer was charging and $105 that another independent mechanic was charging in State College.Overall, really pleased with this shop. I've done my inspection here twice now. These folks are friendly, efficient, and honest. I would highly recommend this place, especially if you are considering some of the chain garages in this town, which have rightfully earned their bad reputation.

These folks repaired my college student's car recently. Not only did they get the car finished a day earlier than expected, they charged a very fair price (I checked it with my mechanic of 25 years). I appreciate their professionalism and taking care of my son when I cannot. I have been going here for about 3 years before that it took me a long time to find a decent mechanic in this town that would treat my and my wife s cars well. This shop does that and more. They always go above and beyond and they break down exactly what s wrong with your car in simple terms for you to understand. Many places won t do that and j really appreciate it. Took my car for an inspection today and it was the most seamless experience ever. The shop is not pushy when I ask about the tires if it needs to be change. They said their are still some life on it and don't have to be done at the moment. This shows the integrity of the mechanic anyone should look for. I was also asking about winter tire because I bought the car with staggered wheel setup. The mechanic suggest getting the spare set of wheels with smaller diameter(stock 18) to save money in the long run because bigger tire are more expensive. Overall this is the best experience with any car mechanic I ever had. Will definitely use them again.

Took my car to this shop to get my battery swapped out and make sure everything was okay with it. The guy on the phone quoted me 20-30 to check the battery and said there is no way it could be more than that. Turns out the diagnosis was almost $50 just to see if the battery was dead. Took my car there they said my battery needed to be swapped and everything else was fine. Was expecting 150 bucks but got a bill for almost 300. I could have gone to autozone and paid half the price and they would do the same service. If you want to over pay for services, take your car here.

Super great service. Only time I've been to a mechanic and left happy. Very woman friendly and did not do work on my car before I could approve. I've had my car serviced here for the 2 years I've lived in State College, this place offers great quality service, I find that my car drives much better after servicing. The prices here are better than 2 other auto shops I've been to. Moreover, the staff are professional, polite, and transparent about the problems and the prices of the repairs. They are reliable and on time with their repairs.

Amazing and honest man! I took my car to 2 different mazda dealerships, since my dealership isn't very close to SC, for VSS and ABS sensor issues. They were asking me to pay $2200 and $2700 usd for the replacement of the whole system. Penn Auto figured out, the issue was just with 2 ground wires and helped me save a huge chunk of money! Highly highly recommended

My father was a mechanic up until he retired a few years ago and I have dreaded taking my car anywhere else for inspections since he closed his shop (especially being away at college). Like many other reviewers here, I would like to commend Penn's Mobil for very open communication. In the end, I ended up paying a fair price for the services provided (inspection and oil change). I have one more year at PSU and will likely be back for next year's inspection. Thanks again!Service: Oil change

Avoid going to this shop for inspection. Here is the story. I got a Honda minivan inspected earlier in Honda dealership. The only problem to pass the inspection was a rusted bumper frame which would cost about 400 to replace. So I went to this shop based on the google reviews, hoping they would be not too strict about the rust. They turned out to pick out more than 8 items need to be addressed for passing inspection, which will cost probably more than 4000. So I explained to them it was only the rust issue brought me here. They just didn t care and reiterated they followed the rules. I just wonder how a auto shop has much stricter standards than a dealership. I kept explaining I choose their shop due to the google reviews. And this guy said I don t care about google reviews. Maybe they have more business now and they don t care anymore. They charged the same price as the dealership without giving me the pass and pick out way more problems than the dealership. Why would I waste my time and money to come to your shop for 4000 repair while the dealership can pass with 400 and much better service? Just read these poor reviews you will find common experience.Update: 5 months later. I found this guy already made a quick reply right after my review like he was arguing to every bad reviewer previously. Why did you said you don t care about the google review. First of all, do I give you the authorization to disclose my identity? Second, the reason I didn t pay attention to your response is I got my minivan inspected with much lower cost later. Your standard indeed makes your customer spend more which is the fact in my case. My vehicle is routinely driving never sitting for long time. Try not to give misinformation here. And I specifically put avoid inspection not any other thing. I am trying best to be objective already

I have had many terrible experiences when visiting other local garages for a state inspection, but this year I used Penn's Auto Service, and it was such a positive experience that I will definitely return. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and professional. They communicated with me at every step and let me know total costs up front so there were no surprises. They worked quickly and efficiently and the work was done well.

Turned a $30 spark wire, 2 min repair into a $375 bill. Avoiding the actual cause of the problem and trying their best to upsell. Mechanics search online for repair solutions. Front desk is ignorant while keeping himself busy on phone calls, and boasts their "NGK iridium plugs" and "NGK wires". Maybe okay for oil change but watch out for repair bills.

I m a student and needed my car fixed on short notice so I could continue driving to work. They were able to fit me in within 2 days of calling. Fixed it in one day. Very nice people and communicated well. Definitely recommend this place.

The only place I'd recommend in state college. Fari did a wonderful job on my car. These guys are reasonably priced and take ownership of what they do. Highly satisfied with their service. My daughter s car windshield wipers stopped functioning coming home from penn state in a rain storm. I called several auto body places asking if they could see her but were too busy. I called and Farai answered and said he d see her right away. He got her in, fixed the issue and had her back on the road within an hour. He saved the day! I highly recommend this company!

The gear cable that helped changed the gears in my car broke and I was recommended here by someone else. Fry was great in being very transparent about price and timeframe and even gave me the number for a good place to tow my car there for a good price. Got my car in and the next day had it fixed and at a much more reasonable price than I was expecting. I would recommend Penns Auto to everyone and anyone who needs car help.

Went in for a state inspection and emissions test and found out that my brake pads and rotor needed to be replaced. Was offered the entire service at a reasonable price and the job was done quickly. I highly recommend this place!

Best place ever. Fantastic service. Friendly staff. Great prices. You won't find a more honest and fair priced shop anywhere else. I usually do all of my own repairs and when I don't have the tools to do so it's amazing to have a place I trust to take care of my vehicles. Highly recommended.

Liers. professional liers.These guys have no idea how to make repairs. But they know exactly how much to charge you.Looking 10 minutes on the car,48$??? I'm totally disagree to pay for looking, I'm agree to pay for a labor. labor was 20$, and,as usual,.. You need replace all four wheels ,shocks,etc. Gas filled shocks leaking? No honestly at all. After this place my car pass inspection without any issue, nothing leaks.I'm not a really surprised. They didn't even notice that I already have two new tires. ...no words. Worst place for State inspection.By the way, I came on time. But, who cares, right? Terrible service. Non professional.

Penn Auto was recommended by a friend, and I am so glad. My wife was unable to drive (due to a medical issue). But the car still needed an inspection. When they heard they my wife they would drop the car off at our house after the work and didn't charge us for all the travel time - and that was 2 mechanics because the one driving our car needed a ride back to the shop. Wow. This is a level of above-and-beyond service I have never seen before.
