I would like to start with the positive: the car was diagnosed accurately and the repair was done well. The mechanic at Able Brake/Pasco's Towing was patient in explaining the problem to me. Pasco's Towing picked me up when I was stranded in Scranton and stopped at Kost Tire (where I normally go) to see if Kost could fit me in before they took me to their shop, which I appreciate. That said, Able's quote for the AC compressor and labor (which was preventing my car from starting) came in at approximately $940: $585 (!!) for the compressor, $40 for the fluid, and the rest for labor. I'm attaching a slice of one of the bills. The cost of the compressor shocked me, so I called Kost (where I normally go) to find out what they would charge. Kost offered me the entire repair for $750; the main difference was that they would use a $350 compressor instead of a $585 one. Kost assured me that Able would probably have access to the same parts distributor. So I called Able and asked if they had access to and would be willing to use a cheaper compressor. This did not seem like an unreasonable request to me. I respect mechanics and would never attempt to pay them less for their labor, all I wanted was for them to install a cheaper part. After some confusing back and forth during which I was never able to talk directly to the gentleman in charge of ordering the parts (who is also the owner), I was offered the repair for $770, which sounded a lot more reasonable, so I took it, assuming that they would simply install the lower-cost part. I was also under the false impression that the $770 included the $80 diagnostic fee.I picked up my car and found that the $770 did not include the diagnosis. In addition, I was not allowed to use my 10% off AAA discount because how many discounts do you want?! (actual quote). So in the end I basically paid the $940 that I was originally quoted and ended up feeling like I had seriously annoyed the mechanic.By contrast, when I called Kost about the problem, they understood my concerns about the cost of the part and were enthusiastic about helping me find a cheaper one of equal quality that they could purchase through their distributors. I've been to Kost many times and I will probably go back to them in the future.

Needed brakes bled and they said the charge was $75 which is an insane price. I asked why so expensive he said cause he charges $75 an hour which is ridiculous for a brake shop. I said the job only takes 15m and he said he charges a min of an hour which is bullcrap when more than %50 of a brake shops jobs are less than an hour..so he's ripping people off super bad
