My wife and I were traveling through the area when the fuel pump went out on our truck. We were on the side of the road and Ray tried to help diagnose the problem over the phone. After we replaced the pump and the truck still didn t work he said even though he was scheduled out 2 weeks if we could get the truck towed to his shop he would have a technician jump on it right away. After we were towed into his shop the technician did just that. After some checks he determined the relay was also bad. Ray drove across town to 2 parts stores to find the part. They installed the new part and the truck started . The charges were very small and we were on our way. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend them for all repairs. Thanks Ray and your techniciansService: Electrical repair

I took my 2001 Volvo for a full tune up at Emtech at the advice of a friend. They seemed to do a decent job and told me it ran great when I paid my bill of a little over $600. On my way home 19 miles away, the car started sputtering and I had to pull over and call AAA to have it towed back to Emtech. A few days later they told me that they figured out the turbo needed replaced and a few other things. I found this odd but trusted them and gave them the go ahead to replace what they recommended at the tune of an additional $2,300. A couple weeks later I was able to pick up the car and the owner Ray told me that the engine was in great shape and I should get a good few years out of the car. I guess this is what I now learn as "fluffing" Because on the way home, once again, the car started sputtering and finally blew a bunch of white smoke and stalled out at 60 miles from Emtech on my way home. A few days later I went to find out what the issue was and Ray told me that he had no idea how it could have happened but the engine was completely blown and could not be repaired. Needless to say I am very dissatisfied with the service and I am not thrilled to have spend over $3,000 to have him tell me that there was simply nothing they could or would do. To top that off, today.. I got a text message telling me that the car with the new turbo was going to be towed and scrapped unless I get it off his lot. I would find a different business to work on your car. I tried working something out and they just stole my money. Bad Review for sure.Service: Engine repair

Best mechanic in The Dalles! Ray is honest and will fix what needs fixing without inventing more issues just for $$ like some dishonest mechanics in the area. My entire family uses him exclusively (about 8 vehicles) and we have not had a bad experience yet over about 5 years with heavily used vehicles. He does a great job!!!

I called Emtech to get an initial quote for replacing my shot transmission with a working used transmission and Ray was willing to figure out exactly what my car needed and quickly gave me a price range. We talked multiple times that day over the phone and I decided how I wanted to move forward, ultimately deciding to use Emtech s services. They were booked for two weeks, but were willing to hold my car on their lot during that period of time so I had my car towed there.A month passed without any communication from Emtech, so I called to check in and was informed that they hadn t started work or ordered the necessary parts because they did not have my phone number to confirm services. I found this odd, as we had discussed our plans for my car over the phone multiple times during our conversation a month prior. Ray told me that now that I had called they would now order the transmission and begin work the next week once the part had arrived.I called again the following week on a Friday to confirm work had started. Ray told me the part arrived earlier that week and they would likely be finished by the end of the day. I did not hear from him again that day, then the weekend began so they were closed.A week later, Ray called me to tell me my car was finished with repairs and not only did he change the transmission, but had also changed the power steering hose because it had a large leak. I was out of town at the time and he agreed to hold it on his lot until I returned. I asked for a final invoice and Ray told me he had not done the final calculations, but would text them to me in about 20 minutes. He did not.Once I returned from my trip, I called to confirm I could pick up my car the following day as well as ask for the final invoice again. He said he was not in the office, but would text it to me once he got back. He did not.The next day I went to pick up my car. Ray reiterated that he had changed the transmission as asked and replaced the power steering hose as informed. He also told me he had changed out a broken bolt and added oil to my engine (which I did not ask him to do, as I do this at home on my own). The final charge was about $200 more than his initial quote, which I attributed to the power steering hose and labor, so I paid.He THEN handed me the official invoice that broke down the services and I noticed that he had also apparently topped off my coolant (which I also do at home myself). The oil and coolant were an additional $20, and as I am on a strict budget this felt frustrating because I have oil and coolant at home I could have used for free.I then went to retrieve my car from the lot and noticed that both of my bumper stickers had been completely removed. This was very confusing, as they had been there the last time I saw my car. I am incredibly upset someone felt the need to vandalize my car. Completely unprofessional and unethical, at the very least.Emtech is only a five minute drive to my house, so I cannot decisively compliment or criticize the work they did on my transmission besides the fact that my car now runs.My main complaints are lack of communication and follow through, adding additional services without asking me first, and removing my bumper stickers.I will be taking any future car services elsewhere and suggest others do the same.Services: Transmission, Transmission replacement

My diesel truck broke down on a Sunday and living 3 hours away I had no idea where to have my truck towed. I took the advice of my tow truck driver and left it at EMTECH NW and I m sure glad I did. Ray and his team are awesome! Not only did they get me back on the road in 24 hours but the bill was extremely fair in a situation where they very much could have taken advantage of me as I was dead in water. I can t say enough good about Ray and his team. I wish they were in my hometown. They would be my Go To for all my mechanic needs.Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

I can only say positive things when it comes to this location! I drove from Corvallis and broke down as soon as I got to the Dalles. Had a cooling fan module fail and needed a battery replacement for my 2010 Volvo S80. Ray was very professional and answered all my questions/concerns I had. Very fast service and high quality customer service. They made me feel very welcome and we re very quick on repairs. Other locations, I d be waiting for days for my car to be fixed. With this location, I was in and out over night. Ray is a huge supporter of the armed forces so if you re a veteran, this is the place for you. They also followed up with me to make sure that I was satisfied with the work done and to make sure that there were no issues. Best experience I ve ever had when it comes to car repairs. 10/10 overall.

Broke down along the gorge coming back from a road trip and had my car towed here as opposed to the closest city (Rufus) and luckily this shop has a great standing in the community our tow driver even said they were a great shop. The lot was super full so it took about a week or so to get to, needed a new clutch and then new flywheel when they found it was too destroyed to resurface (oof). They got the parts ASAP and my car drives and shifts better than ever. They were very communicative throughout the whole process and while breaking down was super duper not fun, I feel good about having gotten the work done at EmtechService: Transmission

Ray is very friendly and knowledgeable. He has worked on both of my vehicles. Just recently took my jeep in for a transfer case replacement. Dropped it off 2 hours before closing and it was done first thing the next morning. Notified me of a problem with my front driveshaft and told me it could be rebuilt for half the price of a new one. Honest mechanic and would definitely recommend him.

Emtech does a great job for us and really lightens our stress load when we have an issue with a vehicle. Ray is very knowledgable, systematic, and is good at explaining what s going on with your car. My wife and I have been Emtech customers for 5 years and 4 vehicles and have 100% confidence Ray is going to get to the heart of the problem, fix it right the first time and charge you a fair price. Highly recommend Emtech in The Dalles.Services: Auto engine tuning, Engine repair, Computer diagnostics

Shelby took the time to see our truck on a moments notice! Fixed our problem in 30 minutes and was only going to charge a Minimal fee. Can t say how much we appreciate his willingness to check out our problem. He saved our trip to see the family!! Added note, the dealership and one other place in town didn t even take the time to look at the problem. Thanks so much!

Had my air conditioner worked on a few years back at Emtech, Ray gave me a estimate of 700 and told me I just needed to get the clutch and compressor replaced as the other would go out in a year or two since it was that old. Ended up costing me a little over 600. Which was a nice surprise. On the hottest days it can freeze you out if you don't turn it down! Then recently my battery was showing it wasn't charging and I was stuck in town as I live past Maupin. He said bring it in, by the time I got off work he had it fixed and did the warranty return on the alternator that I'd replaced about a year ago. So that saved me alot! Real honest guy.

This place rocks! They have helped our family in a desperate time in our life with compassion and understanding. Ray and his employees really know their business with many years of practical hands on experience. Words that I would use to describe Emtech are honesty, trustworthy, knowledgeable, professionals that are prompt and friendly. I will continue to take all of my challenging automotive problems to them.Thank you Emtech! 5 star shop.

Beware! There seem to be a lot of reviews indicating that Ray offered to repeat repairs due to faulty parts . I don t know how often parts stores sell brand new parts that are faulty but the frequency here seems strange. I had to return the car for re-repair twice due to these faulty parts. He did in fact repair them both times but was completely rude, disrespectful and vulgar. I do not believe he is honest or respectful and would not recommend him or his shop to anyone. His bill was over $1300 more than the estimate and the project took three months longer than he said it would. He was reasonable (not friendly) until I asked any questions. Then he became defensive and rude every time.

Very surprised to see these guys have no reviews. I am a former mechanic that can't do a lot due to disability. Brought my Nissan to these guys with new springs and struts already purchased. Most garages would turn you away or otherwise balk at using your parts. They understood that I intended to do the job myself and then decided I couldn't and was nice enough to pull a vehicle out of a bay and put mine in and did an excellent job and charged me their regular rate. Will definitely use again!

We were on our way to Montana from Cali when our injector #2 went out, stranded & not familiar with the area one call to Emtech & a very short wait for repairs with excellent customer service got us on our way, Ray even called a couple days later to make sure we were all good. I went to the shop for a small leak, and now have $1300 into parts and labor that made the car unsafe to drive. This has been a violating experience. The car was brought the car to Emtech with a slight power steering fluid leak, but other than that, the car was driving great. The mechanic replaced the rack and pinion, was paid and we drove the car home. On the way home the power steering went out completely, so we took it back to him and he said it needed a replacement power steering pump, which we paid for also, even though it was fine before he replaced the other part. On the way home the power steering went out again. We took it back again and he accused us of 'doing something to the car' and told us that he didn't have time to fix it because he had people that had prepaid. We had already paid him too- $1300. He finally agreed to work on it. When it was picked it up for the third time, it was driving ok for a day, but then the power steering went out again. Now he refuses to fix the car. He yelled at me on the phone and now will not answer phone calls. I stopped by during business hours and the doors were locked. And after doing some research, I found out that power steering pumps will fail if a rack and pinion is improperly installed without flushing the lines.

Ray was referred by Dodge dealer & so glad for that. Since we were from out of town he squeezed us in & made magic happen. If we lived closer he d be our full time truck guy. Thank You. I more than highly recommend Emtech.

As Jan said in the review before, we will also not be recommending this hole to anyone. We spent well over a thousand dollars on parts and labor for an 'easy fix', and now the car is worse than when we took it in. Ray also tried to turn the conversation around on us & make it our fault. He was rude and confrontational to both my wife and my daughter. Now we have to find another mechanic to fix what Emtech messed up.

Did extensive work on my 2007 Dodge Ram. I bought it used, with a lot of miles. It needed TLC. They did well. Only thing is they're so darned busy sometimes you need to be patient when booking appointments.

I was stranded in The Dalles when my car wouldn't start. Ray of EMTechNW was recommended by a friend, and he came to check out the car right after I called. He diagnosed a bad starter and had a quote for me in a few minutes. The car was repaired and ready on the next work day. Parts and labor were very reasonable and he took the time to go over the computer readout and point out other potential problems.
