They were selling a go kart from the shop and were willing to deliver from Greensboro to Fayetteville (2hours). Spoke to someone on the phone at this supposed shop twice to set up delivery so given the phone conversations it seemed legit. They provided shop name and address so sale seemed credible. I even looked up the shop and they have good reviews so I was willing to send payment. Fortunately it was only $25 but still I m upsetAfter I sent my $25 payment they blocked me on Facebook and the phone number to the shop is going straight to voicemailDo not purchase anything from this shop. They will scam you

I was on a road trip passing through Greensboro in I-40 on a Friday when I started having serious issues with my motor. He took me in same day and fixed stiff for free that I didn't even ask about (asthetic things I didn't notice until I went in later to fix myself). He is pretty direct and medically hard of hearing. So dont mistake that for rudeness. He is honest and is going to do right by you and could be charging a lot more than he is.

Very disappointing. BUYERS BEWARE!!! Josh posted on Facebook Marketplace and we were in communication all morning. I borrowed a car and made my way, a 75 minute drive. When I told him I was on my way, he tells me someone is on the phone placing a hold on the item. I couldn t text and drive so I called the shop. Spoke with Brian who hung up on me when he figured out who I was and then blocked me from calling back. Josh also blocked me on facebook. I had my son in the car and this was his birthday present. P.O.S s broke my little man s heart!

I went to down and out and they got me up and going. The owner there is very knowledgeable and truly genuine about his work. I went to get my back tire mounted on a Yamaha 600 yzf and he end up fixing my clutch cable for free. Thanks again down and out, and i suggest if you have any motorcycle/scooter issue go see my guy reasonably/dependable!!!.Service: Tires

My 50cc Moped was giving me problems, could not get it to run or stay on. The best it could go was 20 miles per hour, which is very slow. Till the point it would shut off after giving it full throttle. After getting a new capurator and checking lines. I was out of options and didn't know how to get it to a repair shop. Thankfully the owner was courteous enough to pick up it from my home, for a fee of course but fair. And informed me I needed a Valve adjustment and worked on it the same day. Even filled the air in my tires and even threw in a free oil change and good advice to add and just for 100$. Definitely the place I will look forward to coming back to if I have any future prpblems Services: Tires, Oil change

Scott has been working on my bikes for almost a decade, He is willing to help you with just about anything from electric scooters to your harley, If it's something simple he is more than willing to explain it to you over the phone. He isn't the mechanic who's trying to sell you something you don't need, and hes also one who's very willing to work with you if you are forward with your situation.Services: Carburetor cleaning, Electrical repair, Tires, Engine repair, Brake service & repair, Battery, Oil change

I'm very happy with Scott he took the time out of his day to make sure I was fixed right away and on my way within the hour. Plus he still did all this with a hurt finger which most people would just stay at home and do nothing. Very happy with the service and everything he did for me. If I have any future problems I will for sure be back. Very smart and knowledgeable person.

Very asinine... I asked Scott to fix my bike. He put a band aide on a broken leg. I expect someone who has been in the same location to have better customer service. Great location, but I'll NEVER go back.I'm editing this review. I vowed to never go back to the down and out performance for repair because Scott is such an asinine person, a liar, and a cheat. Always get a receipt, and get what he says in writing if you choose to use his mediocre service. The reviews that are posted saying he has great customer services and prices are all lies and fabricated from persons he knows. The only reason why he's been there so long is because he is a rich kid, he bought the building. Anywhere in Greensboro if you mentioned Scott's name or his shop you will get a frown and a horrific story from that person's experience. Scott told me he was going to buy my super 9. He came to my shop picked up the super 9 but cranked it before he left because he would not sell me the CDI. I get back to him after 3 months him knowing he owes me he tells me he doesn't remember there's nothing in writing he doesn't owe me anything and the super 9 was sold for $900. He has not offered me anything but told me to get out of his shop which I gladly did I advise anyone in the surrounding areas to avoid this shop and his antics there are other motorcycle shops and scooter shops that you will get more satisfaction and better prices from. Also I am an ex employee so I'm not lying.

Scott had me in and out of here within 5 minutes. Knew exactly what he was talking with, explained it clearly, and repaired my bike quickly. Definitely will be returning for future maintenance!

DO NOT SPEND MONEY HEREThis mechanic is a disgrace and has done nothing but waste my time and money. In addition to being ineffective in actually repairing my scooter, he is also an unabashed bigot, casually making homophobic and sexist jokes and remarks the entire time I was there.I brought my scooter in because of a simple kick starter jam that I didn't have the tools to fix. This mechanic took over an HOUR just to disassemble my kick start assembly and reassemble it. This is because he would constantly stop working to talk to his friend who was also in the shop. Included in the chatting were remarks about how his gay nephew "hugged him too tight" and how he would't give a 10 year-old girl a gun because she was a girl, not because she was a child. On top of this, my kick start jammed IMMEDIATELY the first time I tried to use it after it was "repaired." The real 'kicker'? I used my hand to try to kick start it because I wanted to be sure I wouldn't kick wrong and jam it again. When he did the work for the first time, he didn't mention anything or even show me the problem with my kick start or how I might avoid it in the future, he just did a very shoddy repair and happily charged me and sent me on my way.Unhappy, but left with no other options, I wheeled my scooter down there a second time to have him re-fix my scooter and maybe actually tell me about the issue. At 1pm on a Tuesday, the shop was open with scooters out front, but the front door was locked. No notice or note on the door or anything. I waited in front of the shop for a full 30 minutes before giving up and pushing my scooter home.I strongly advise you to take your business elsewhere, it will save you one, very large headache.

Scott, the owner, is a one man show. He works on just about anything with two wheels and a motor. Easy to deal with and prices seem reasonable. He does have limited hours but it's never been a problem. Specializes in carb work. He works on my cruisers or sport bikes.

Great Experience!!!! Went to another motorcycle shop before him and the Price was $2000.00 dollars..they said Engine was shot..Scott was booked but he took my bike anyway after a few months and a valve job and new spark plug and brake job. Bike Running like it's Brand New!!! He was Worth the Wait and that was my Experience!! Down and Out is alright With Me!!! He Saved Me Big Money too!!!!!

I don t even know where to begin. Scott has had motorcycle since August. Bike was knocked over. Only thing that needed work was a new peg new spark plugs, replace a harness and put the remaining fairings back on.It took two months just to put new spark plugs in. It is now closing in on the end of October. Every time I go up there he is either working on something else, not working or not there. He does not go by the scheduled shop hours. He is extremely slow at completeing work. He will constantly give you the run around. Furthermore, he doesn t keep anyone updated on what has or hasn t been done. Most mechanics give you a call on updates. Mind you I ve already paid him $500 from insurance. He has no sense of urgency. Will not be letting Scott do any further work on my bike after it is fixed.

I wish I would have read these reviews before taking a dirt bike I'd gotten for my grandkids for Christmas in for repairs. The bike needed the starter gear replaced and a minor tune. I took it in the first of December and told him it was going to be a gift. Of course he assured me he could get it done and done by Christmas. After the first week goes by and I hear nothing as far as repair cost I didn't panic because there were still 2 weeks remaining. Week 2 I started calling. Either no answer or he would call me right back, and of course stopping by was a no go. Week 3, and the Saturday before Christmas I got the same runaround on the phone...decided to drop by and unfortunately my bike was tucked away in the corner. He had not done anything to it. His response was very flipit, saying he has other bikes that he need to work on thats been in his shop longer than mine has. I took my bike which he acted surprised and insulted. This guy is extremely unprofessional.

TL; DR: Scott took advantage of a poor and desperate elementary school teacher by misrepresenting his product, taking advantage of my naivete and ultimately selling me a scooter that can not be used. BEWARE OF THIS MAN, HE WILL BLEED YOU DRY AND LEAVE YOU WITH NOTHING!My vehicle blew headgaskets and after realizing that I couldn't afford a down payment on a car, I decided to buy a scooter and save. I went to every scooter shop around budgeting only $500 to buy one. After going everywhere and looking through Craig's List I remembered Down & Out. I went by but it was closed. There was a number on the door so I called and talked with Scott for at least a half hour. I told him my predicament, what I could afford and he assured me he could help me.I went back to his shop a day or two later and, although the place is PACKED with scooters, he only had a Yahama Zuma working that he could sell. He wanted $800 for it but, on the phone, said he'd do it for $500. Then, when I got there the scooter was suddenly $550. I made a deal that he would let me pay the extra $50 and the cost of a helmet the first of July, this was even put on the receipt. He made promises about how well the scooter runs, how much gas mileage it would get, etc. He made it seem it was the perfect scooter for a complete novice like me.There's some really shady things going on with him. First, he only wanted cash. Fine. Second, although knew I was ready to finish our sale he went off and helped another customer for 30 minutes, leaving me and my friend to wait. We finished the sale and when I looked at the receipt, he had put that the Zuma was a 1989! Of course, I didn't ask ahead of time but he also keep the fact from me. I drove the scooter home. On the way, I filled it up at a gas station and put in the 50/50 oil. The scooter sat for an hour at my place and then I went out to ride it again. I barely made it a mile before it broke down and wouldn't start. I called Scott to ask what was going on, after some verbal troubleshooting he told me I had gotten some "bad gas" and it was going to have to be removed and "good gas" put in. He offered to come pick it up the next day (Saturday) and fix it. As good as his word he came by the next day with his personal truck, picked it up and took it back to his shop.I texted and called all weekend to get an idea of what was wrong and how much it would cost although he made it sound like it was no big deal and he was just going to fix it for me. Finally, Monday afternoon, after sending text after text, leaving message after message I get a text that reads, "Scooter is finished, in order to pick it up you must pay $210 which includes the amount you owe." I was flabbergasted. He never told me how much it would be and he made a deal with me that I could pay off the rest a month later. He even charged me for a tow! He knew my situation and suddenly had no compassion for me. He wanted his money.I had to borrow the money from my parents and, after reading other reviews about him, decided to ask a police officer to escort me. Scott acted like my best friend, even texting me afterward all nice about what I need to do about the scooter (too late). I drove the scooter home and again, within a couple of hours, the scooter wouldn't start. I had five friends come over to troubleshoot it. First it was the spark plug, then it was an electrical relay. Another friend offered to have his company fix it. They did their best getting it started, telling me they think the clutch needs to be rebuilt (great). I got to ride it for 2 days until, driving down a country road, it ran out of gas! I had only gone 30 miles since I had filled it up last! The scooter doesn't get anywhere NEAR the mileage Scott or common sense would dictate. After getting gas in it, changing the spark plug again, the scooter still won't run. As of today, I have put over $800 into a scooter that doesn't work and it's my opinion Scott knew this the entire time.No one should buy from this guy. He is the epitome of a bad businessman. Contact me for more info. BEWARE!!!

0 stars would be my actual review. Scott is rude and his price estimates go up drastically after he starts working on things and doesn't tell the customer until the work is done. It is also next to impossible to get him to answer the phone. Save your money this is probably a front for illegal activity since Scott doesn't care if his customers are happy or not.

Scott is the biggest crook in Greensboro. He sold me a scooter and it took him months to get it ready. I paid 350 and after waiting almost 3 months to get it, i told him i wanted a refund and he said he was only giving me 200 because of his time and effort. When he wasted my time and money trying to get the scooter .DO NOT DO business with Down & Out Performance. They will rob you and waste your time

AVOID THIS SHOP the owner is a terrible person to deal with. He was extremely rude to me. I came in and asked if I could look around.. I was unsure if I was in a retail store or a garage. He told me he'd rather me not look around due to closing (I came in a half hour before closing) and was up in my face. I asked if he had any handlebars for available since there seemed to be parts everywhere. He then proceeded to roll his eyes and tell me to order them online without asking any follow up questions. I can take solace in knowing this place will be out of business in no time.

The owner is a great guy, and he know's his stuff. I won't be taking my scooter to anyone else. I got a Chinese Scooter, and I choose this place over the China man on Gate City Blvd.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would! All i needed was a jet for my carb and the owner was very rude and wasted 2hrs of my time because he said he would look for one but instead started working on other customers stuff. I will never go back here and i strongly suggest that you avoid this shop as well. Scott is the least professional mechanic i have ever met.

He tells you one price and then he goes up on what he told you so you don't need to go to him but from what I was told I should have known better so watch out if you ever go to him

Dishonest and pushy. Will tell you one price and when he finishes has a higher price bc he did extra work you never asked him to do. Also rude and unprofessional. Made the mistake of going here twice and will never go back.
