Jody and the team at Cottman's were amazing!! They went above and beyond to help replace my transmission in a short time frame and were also considerably cheaper than another place I checked. Jody took the time to learn about our needs, and offered additional safety tips and advice to be sure we were safe in our RV towing adventures! We can't thank the team enough!

I ve taken 2 vehicles this year to Jodi and his fantastic team. They are honest and trustworthy. Excellent communication about options, recommendations, estimates and work performed. They dont try to sell you anything above and beyond the work that your vehicle needs. Their level of expertise is unmatched and they work to make sure that the job is done right. I was able to drop off and pick up after hours to accommodate my schedule. This team has given me more joy and miles in my older vehicles thanks to their skills. Excellent team of mechanics!

Best price and best service!! Cottmon Transmission in Durham went above and beyond to get us our truck fixed on a tight timeline before a road trip. In addition to getting our truck fixed and back to us over a holiday weekend, they also helped us get our trailer set up for towing safely, definitely not something they had to do. Definitely highly recommend!!!

Chris was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, I haven't even done any business with them yet and he was more than willing to spend 8-10 mins on the phone explaining what the dealer could not about the practical reasons behind the DEALERS maintenance schedule. The shop representative at the dealer didn't know anything about cars or my car he only read from a manual. Chris knew the parts that were prone to failure on my specific vehicle model as well as the dealer maintenance procedures. He was honest, straight forward, and knowledgeable about the differences in price and procedure between his shop & the dealer. You can't ask better from a shop. For those without knowledge on cars, this is the type of shop you want to do business with!

Had an issue with my trans temp sensor and called 3 places before finding this one. All the previous shops talked to me like I was stupid once they heard my voice, until I got to this one. Chris was helpful on the phone and listened to my perceived diagnosis of the problem. They were transparent with me from the beginning, respectful, and honest. Fixed the problem in a day, then had me back in a week later for a free-of-charge recheck to make sure all was good for the long-term. Great transmission shop.

My new Go to for all my transmission work. The staff at Cottman was Assume. They kept me informed through the entire process and assured me that they would get my warrant to pay for it all and they did just that. Jodi and Chris I am forever grateful for your service. Yesterday I stopped by Jiffy Lube because they had forgotten to reset my oil light after my last oil change. While I was there I mentioned I had smelled a burning rubber smell recently so asked them to check it. They said it looked like my transmission was leaking so they referred me to Cottman's. I didn't know they normally require appointments so I just went in yesterday afternoon and explained the situation to the woman at the front desk. The owner was in the back and heard what I said and told her I needed to be moved to the front of the line. If I truly had a leak it was extremely flammable so he wanted them to immediately check it instead of sending me away to come back later because there was a chance my car could catch on fire and he didn't want to risk that happening. A mechanic immediately came and checked my car. After their inspection they said I had a few oil leaks, it wasn't my transmission and I could drive it without risk of it catching on fire. They referred me to the mechanic next door since they don't fix oil leaks there. While I didn't end up getting anything done, I really appreciated their sense of urgency and concern. The inspection they did was free which was nice. If I have any transmission issues in the future (which fingers crossed I don't) I would absolutely come back here.

Hi, I have a 2009 Silverado 4x4, transition went out, 2nd time. 1st time I had dealership install a factory reman, lasted little over 3 yr,50k.This time I elected to use Cottmans transition, & they were great. Got my truck in there & I had it back on the road in a week, they also worked with my warranty company. Chris & company very good to work with.

Jodi has rue best customer service Very polite, and professional. Test drives vehicle and immediately provided what the issue was. Eventhough I didn't have an appointment he offered me to drop by to test drive. Thank you for your service. I will recommend others. Signed Jeep Compass;)

My check engine light came on after work last night (mind you I live in Greensboro and work in Durham) stopped at Auto Zone and the machine came up with a transmission error the sales rep said that he wouldn't recommend me driving it home. He recommend me going to Cottman, I called and spoke with Jody, he said they would be closed by the time I got there but I could leave my key in the drop box and he would get to it in the morning. I arrived to the shop about 6:15/6:20 not only did he wait for me, he stayed until he was able to fix the problem.side note: they have the cleanest bathroom that ive ever seen in an auto shop :-)Highly recommend!!!!

I was having a problem with my car, which I was certain had to do with my transmission, and the gentlemen there pointed out not only what was wrong with it, but didn't try to upsell anything. Just genuine human advice.

I felt sick on the ride over thinking about the cost for repair on my Chrysler PT Cruiser. Then I met Jody and after he spent a while explaining and showing me what was wrong the black clouds lifted. This man is a saint and my savior! He is very knowledgeable and honest. If you need any transmission work done this is the best place around to go ! Thanks Jody for all your help !

My car essentially died 2 miles from Cottman. Thankfully I made it to their shop. My transfer case melted down on the road and I had no idea what was going on.The people at Cottman immediately identified the problem and gave me an overview of what was wrong.I expected the repair to take 3-4 weeks because parts had to be ordered.They called me 1 week later and told me to come pick up the car.Everything has been great ever since and the car is running perfectly fine.Having car problems is one of the most stressful things to experience for most people. But the people at Cottman made this as painless as possible and I can honestly say this was the smoothest process I ve ever had when it comes to getting significant car repairs.This may be the 2nd or 3rd time in my life I ve ever felt compelled to leave a review. 5 stars. Well deserved.

Absolutely love Cottman Transmission! I can t say enough positive things about Jodi, Chris and the rest of the team. I needed to take my car to them again recently for some mechanical TLC and as usual Jodi and his team gave excellent and outstanding service. To anyone who is looking for honest, professional and trustworthy car repair I highly recommend Cottman Transmission. They will get you straight. I try to always give honest unbiased reviews. If I could give 10 stars here I would. If your car is starting to give you trouble call or go by there. I believe you will always get honest and straightforward recommendations. Excellent experience. I damaged the transmission in my pickup truck pushing too hard while towing a travel trailer. Thought I would need to replace it. Jody & team diagnosed the problem and replaced a broken electrical part to fix it. Saved me thousands of dollars. They also gave me good advice how to avoid repeating my towing mistake. As a current military service member, I was getting ready to travel in 4 days to my next duty station in the Midwest. I was referred to Cottman Transmission by another repair shop that performed a different service, but was not able to service my transmission since I had been experiencing some intermittent issues with my vehicle and wanted to get my car serviced. When I called Cottman, Jody answered and was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and suggested a number of things that could be causing my transmission to act the way it was.When looking at his schedule, the earliest available he had open for me to bring my car in was the day AFTER I was supposed to report to my new duty station. After I explained my situation a little more, Jody expressed his sincere gratitude for those in the military and told me to bring my car in the next morning.I brought my car in and Jody was able to run some tests on it. There were definitely issues discovered, but the process to fix them would take longer than what time I had left before I had to leave for my duty station. He did some additional testing while driving the vehicle around with the test machine plugged in. During which, Jody determined that my vehicle would be fine to drive to my final destination. However, he offered a lot of expert advice and tips on what I should do if I encountered the problem while making my trip. It was pretty evident that Jody is the subject matter expert on all things transmissions!Before this most recent experience, I had used Cottman once before for my wife's vehicle, and what we were expecting to be an expensive repair turned out to be far less because the issue wasn't what we thought it was, but rather a simple fix.The fact that Jody went above and beyond because of my military status was most appreciated by me. It is rare to find a company that does what they say that are going to do within the time frame they give you and do it with a smile. Jody and his team helped me after I had a terrible experience with a dealer. I went in for my transmission. In the end, they also helped me with my air conditioning and running boards. I do not usually do reviews but wanted others needing car repair to know Cottman Transmission on Roxboro Rd will provide the best service. I highly recommend them. This is the place to go for transmission expertise, period. I needed a diagnostic and was referred to Cottman by my normal service shop in Chapel Hill. Not only did they take the time to investigate my issue, they explained in-depth how my specific transmission functions over the life of my vehicle. I left with more knowledge and confidence about maintaining my vehicle. Highly recommend.

Great service and great people. When I called about a transmission issue in my Ford Fusion Hybrid, right off the bat it was clear that they were not thinking about getting the work or the money, instead they were simply focused on helping me. They presented me with my options, were clear and transparent about their estimates, and helped advise me on the best steps moving forward. This establishment is a true example of "do right by people and they'll do right by you." I'll definitely be going back there with any car trouble I may have in the future.Service: Transmission

Both my wife and I have gone to Cottman and received stellar service. On my visit they quickly diagnosed that my problem wasn t my transmission at all, and sent me on my way. Honest folks, clean shop, very professional. Cannot recommend them enough!

Im really happy I took my car here. They really took care of me, explained everything, and were completely transparent.The dealership recommended a new transmission so i took it to Cottman for a second opinion. They researched my check engine light issue extensively and test drove the car to check for drivability issues. They even test drove it a second time to double-check how it runs cold after the weekend. Ended up being an issue with the battery terminal.Overall A+ experience.

Saw all the positive reviews on Google and decided to trust them with my vehicle. Unfortunately they were unable to do the repairs on my POS hybrid CVT, but it was no fault of their own. Everyone I spoke with at this shop is very nice and respectful. Would definitely use them again in the future if needed.

My car had a transmission issue and I was 1.5 hours from home. I went to Autozone and they ran the code, and called Cottman Transmission and sent Jodi over to help me. Jodi helped me immensely. He explained everything that was going on with my car in detail and never tried to sell me anything or get me to go to his shop directly- he just helped me like a person. He didn t HAVE to come over to Autozone, where I was parked, but he did and was MORE than helpful. He clearly cares about PEOPLE and not just money. Jodi sent me safely on my way after checking out my vehicle and never asked for a dime. 10/10 if you have transmission issues- GO HERE!!!! And see Jodi :)Service: Auto engine diagnostic

Before completing this review, I ve driven 3,000 miles in order to form my most honest opinion. I drove from Queens, New York to Galveston, Texas and was heading back home when I stopped for some gas and a bathroom break in Durham. As I was getting on the highway, I began hitting my accelerator with no response. The engine light came on and luckily, I was able to pull to the shoulder safely. I had my car towed to the nearest Mavis thinking it was something small but after the diagnostics it pointed to transmission problems. I asked the guys if they could recommend any transmission shop and I was referred to Cottman Transmission located at 4503 North Roxboro Road Durham NC 27704. I am a New Yorker; we trust but verify. I looked up this company on the internet and the reviews were exceptional. At Cottman Transmission, Chris and Jody were not only professional but they were great people. They smiled and were extremely pleasant. They kept us updated on the entire process from when the part was ordered, delivered and completion of the job.We must have called at least 15 times and each time the phone was answered with no more than 2 rings. I don t know if I can make the same claim for any other company. Upon reaching home, I took my truck to my mechanic in Queens, NY after driving (over 3,000 miles) and I am happy to report there were no leaks and the transmission is working like new. My only regret is that Cottman Transmission doesn t have a location in New York. It was an absolute pleasure working with this company.Service: Transmission repair

I thought I had transmission issue. They give a free inspection and took time to go over what they found. some people would have taken you for a ride. Ended up being spark plug issue. I replaced the spark plugs myself and my issue was resolved. Very nice guys. Thankful I did not have the issues I thought I had.
