Al was the best tow truck driver we could have asked for. Fixed us roadside in a snowstorm with a smile. Jay and Donna were a pleasure to deal with and they were honest about time frame. Great people and great service

When my Jeep broke down, we were very fortunate to find Central Garage right down the street from us. Our serpentine belt melted off when the AC compressor pulley seized.Central Garage was able to get our car right back on the road as soon as the parts arrived. We are thankful for their work!

WARNING! Borderline fraudulent and was put into a dangerous situation due to negligence.Got my vehicle towed there after getting two flat tires. The tow was quick (which was great). After my vehicle arrived, I was told it would be repaired on Monday (it was a friday that is was dropped off). I called Monday afternoon after not hearing a thing. They told me "Should be done tomorrow at noon". I call back Tuesday at noon. I was told "We just got your tires in today, so it won't be done till tomorrow at noon." Wednesday at noon I call again to hear "oh we're just getting to it should be done by two". It was "done" by two. It would have been preferred to receive a reasonable timeline instead of being lied to.I was told that the vehicle was repaired and tested. The rims were bent, but it was holding air and would be safe to drive. Which was a lie. I got less than 20 miles away and I had the tire blow. I call the shop and they stated "we tested it in water and it was fine", but clearly did not test drive the vehicle. TO ENSURE IT'S SAFETY. I would have rather waited longer and been GUARANTEED safety prior to being put in an unsafe situation. Will never recommend or use this shop again. Photo added is of said "safe" tire.Service: Tires

I d give zero if it would let me, dirt bags and thieves. Take your vehicles somewhere else, I promise you don t want to trust these guys. Paid to have our vehicle delivered to our house, they have avoided and still not taken the vehicle after months. Meaning I paid for my vehicle, and they likely sent it off somewhere else regardless of this.Don t go to central garbage.

I always get my car inspected here never had a problem with the staff, but I am leaving 3 stars because apparently one of my friends had a bad experience with here. They towed his car and it took forever for him to get it back that's one thing, but he said that after that the town gave him a problem with expired NY inspection, even though his car is registered in ON. Didn't know people from Ontario needed to get inspections from NY. It only had a NY inspection sticker (expired in 2019) in the first place is because he bought the car from here. It is up to date with inspection in ON. Disappointing.

We were headed out to go for a rid on a nice day. When we got out to the car, I noticed a tire was low on air. I inflated it only to hear a leak. I called Central and told Jay our issue. He got us in right away and we got to go for our cruse.

We were on vacation in the Adirondacks and realized we had a bolt in our tire which was causing issues. We were in lake placid one day and looked up car shops in the area. We went here around 6pm and asked if they could help. They helped us immediately and were very fast and friendly.Service: TiresService: Tires

I called AAA and a truck came from Central Garage to unlock my car door. As the driver of the tow truck was leaving he reversed and backed into my car and busted the tail light. I had to get the light replaced and Jay refused to communicate with me over email presumably because he did not want anything in writing. We communicated over the phone and he sent the replacement light to my house, as promised, but did not send me a check, as promised, when I went to a shop to have the light replaced. I called him at least 10 times over 4 months and he did not return my calls or continuously lied about having sent the check. Extremely disappointed as I am out $100 due to the incompetence of the driver that LITERALLY drove into my car.

Donna and Central Garage were a lifesaver! I was in Lake Placid for a weekend hiking trip and my car s low tire pressure light went on. Figured it was due to the cold (below zero during the night) but since I was driving 6 hours back home in snow it needed to be checked. I called first thing Sunday morning and Donna told me to come in and she d check it out. I got there a bit after 8 am, she took me right away. Took 15 minutes, ran a check, confirmed it was the cold, filled my tires, and I was on my way to enjoy another hike before I drove home. She was pleasant and professional. Great experience and gave me such peace of mind for my drive home! If anything comes up car related when in Lake Placid, go to Central Garage.Service: Tires

I came to Lake Placid for a family vacation. I had a problem with my brakes during my stay. The staff at the shop took care of me and accommodated our unique situation. The prices were good. Hats off to Jay and the staff for helping us out. Highly recommended.

Highly recommend! I was traveling through and had an issue with lose lug nuts and broken studs and had to stop 1.5hrs away from my house. They got me in immediately at 5pm and fixed it and sent us on our way. Great service and wonderful people. Donna who works there even entertained my 4yo while we waited. They were wonderful and I can t say enough good things about them!

I'm adding to the chorus of those appreciating how Central Garage saved our vacation! They quickly helped us diagnose, test, and absolutely ensure, that a nail in the tread of our tire hadn't done serious damage and has us back on our way within minutes on a holiday weekend. We realized we had a flat tire a couple miles away from this garage/Mobil station and knew we had to turn around. The situation ended up being the best case scenario. The crew was quick, professional and very kind. Our tire was patched up for a very reasonable price and we were on our way. Every person there was attentive to our needs. We started walking to get the car and were pleasantly surprised to see it being driven down to us. Would absolutely stop by here again!!Service: Tires

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! Within 59 minutes of me calling to see if they d be able to replace my battery, I had dropped it off and picked it up with a brand new battery, on a Sunday evening nonetheless. This garage saved us! While on vacation (5 hours from home) we thought our transmission was going. We called Central Auto and they dropped what they were doing to diagnose our car AND fixed it in a 1/2 hour! (It was not the transmission...). The mechanic was amazing! He was so nice, helpful and good at what he does, that if I lived closer he would have our business for sure! Thank you Central Auto!!!!Service: Auto exhaust system repair

Great place! Needed emergency flat tire fix on a Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend. Dropped in without appointment. Quoted 45 mins and was exactly that. And less than $30 almost unbelievable!

Unfortunately I'm giving them 3 stars. I called for a state inspection and I have been told to bring the car the next day at 9am and it should be ready around 11am which I did. Around 11am I didn't got a call and still went to the shop to check if the car is ready and they told me that it was not. So I said that I'm working from 2pm and they told me that it will be ready by 12:30pm and by that time again noone called me so I went again but this time the car was ready. They were very busy which is great but they have to plan their time better because at the end they are wasting my time. I have heard good reviews about them that's why I will give them a try again the end of the summer season and hopefully I could give them 5 stars.

My family of 6 was traveling through Lake Placid to drive 9 hours home on a Sunday. Had a nail puncture the tire. I called in hopes they could get us back on the road. The lady that answered the phone was very compassionate and provided me with comfort and an affirmation they could get us back on the road quickly. Upon our arrival, she was waiting at the garage bay door and went right to work had us on the road in a matter of 20 minutes or less once we got to the garage! So very thankful for the service!Service: Tires

Warning! I had the worst experience getting service at Garage centrale. I consider it borderline fraudulent, but I will let readers form their opinion by sharing my story: I called AAA to get my car towed and they sent Garage centrale. They told me they were extremely busy and couldn t get to my car for 3 days. After 3 days I called to know the diagnosis and was told the alternator needed repair, and that the part would cost $250-$300, plus approx $160 labor. I called every day to know when would the repair happen, and it kept on being delayed. Not one single time did the garage call me to update me. Finally 10 days after towing the alternator got installed. But when I went to pick my car the charge was nearly double: I was charged double for the part, was charged for towing (even though that cost was covered by AAA), and wasn t offered the 10% labor discount for AAA members. My bill was $900 instead of the expected $500. When I questioned my bill I was told the alternator delivered happened to be more expensive than expected. Not once did the garage call me in 10 days. Even though I called every day they never verified if I gave permission to a service twice as expensive. The garagiste wouldn t honor his estimate and acknowledge his mistake. I finally had to call the police to get help in retrieving my car without paying for the overcharged repair.I hope you never need to use this garage, but if you re desperate I would strongly recommend you put in writing the charges agreed to.

I am small shop owner in Clayton NY. One of my customers was in Lake Placid for a wedding. During there travels they had a brake caliper freeze up on them. This happened on a Friday night and they were only it town until Sunday. With a few calls and recommendations we ended up locating Central Garage. Jay was able to get him in Saturday morning and back on the road in a timely manner. On top of that he was very fair with all the pricing!! My tire pressure light came on while on vacation in Lake Placid. It was a late Sunday afternoon and I had to leave early the next day. I popped in here and a wonderful woman checked all my tires, put air in the one that was low, and reassured me that I could bring it back at 7:30 tomorrow morning if the light comes back on. She didn't charge me a dime. I LOVED that it was a woman who helped me at a mechanic and I LOVED how quickly and effectively she handled it. If you're in the area, don't panic. Just very disappointed . On vacation Brought abad flat tire in for repair. Dropped off 9:30 am , 3:30 pm not done 7:00 pm not done, .next day ,9:00am not done. If you could not do it fine, don't keep making me come back. The people their in the morning had no idea who I was and gave me my flat tire back , really!!?? Thanks . This Business got good reviews, ,I'm at a loss. And no I'm not coming back..Thanks anyway Jay...

Booked a trip to Lake Placid, en route noticed our rear brakes were grinding. Went to Central garage and they they knew immediately our brakes and rotors needed replacement. We were impressed with the service, price and professionalism. Should you ever find you need service in Lake Placid, do not hesitate to use Central Garage. Thanks for a great service.

These guys are awesome. Jay is honest, helpful, knowledgeable. They took my car on Sunday and got it back on Monday. Originally Jay thought it was an issue with alternator. But turns out it was not that. He did not try to rip me off!! Very reasonable price. I am glad I found this place with a dead car! They helped me get back home with a long drive and kids. And on time as well. Highly recommend this place if you need any car service while you are around lake placid

My daughter lives in Saranac Lake, 3 1/2 hours away from me. She calls to tell me her brakes gave out. Not knowing any of the mechanics in area, I start my Google search for her. I read many reviews but found that the positive and most consistent came from Central Garage. I ended up visiting with my daughter while her car was in the garage getting fixed. In keeping this review short, I have to say that Jay went above and beyond to accommodate my daughter and to ensure that her brakes were safe for her drive with. His pricing was very reasonable. He was very courteous and conscientious. I would highly recommend Jay and the Central Garage for any of your repair needs. Very respectful mechanic and garage.

In early August 2012, my air conditioning compressor seized up on my way up to Lake Placid from Boston, MA and I was stranded on the side of the road near Keene, NY. I called AAA and they dispatched Central Garage to send a truck. This was a Saturday night around 6pm so I didn't have high expectations for prompt service. Despite my assumptions, I was pleasantly surprised when one of the garage attendants (Jay) showed up about 30 minutes later. Considering Lake Placid is about a 20 minute drive from where I broke down, I was impressed with how quick he attended to my call. He quickly diagnosed the problem and suggested that he would try to rig up my alternator belt to bypass the AC compressor and enable me to still drive (a much cheaper repair than an AC compressor replacement). He quickly hauled my car to his garage, gave me his number and asked me to check back in a couple days.A few days later, I called the garage and Jay stated that, unfortunately, his proposed workaround wouldn't work and he would need to order a new compressor. No local junk yards or dealers had an AC compressor that would fit my car so he had to order the part from a vendor in North Carolina. Due to the fact that I was only in Lake Placid for a week vacation, I was forced to leave my car at the garage as it was not ready when I needed to return home to Boston. I was pretty persistent in my calls for a status check and every time, Jay exhibited a lot of patience with my constant need for updates.Once the car was done, Jay offered to tow my car down to Albany, NY (at no extra charge) in order to make it easier on me to pick it up and drive it back to MA. This was way above and beyond what I expected and was greatly appreciated. The cost of the repair was very reasonable and was well below what I was expecting.Overall, despite all of the inconveniences for waiting on the part and being without a car for a week, my experience with Jay and his garage was very positive. I would recommend him to anybody who happens to find themselves stranded in Lake Placid as I was.

AMAZING!!! They got my car in on short notice, and got it done the same day. There prices are great as well! Paid way less than I thought I would to get 2 tires mounted and put on my car! Will definitely go there again to get work done on my car! They also kept my old tires, which I wasn't expecting and was really nice!

I broke down on 87S between Ex 30 & 29. It took them a bit to arrive on the scene, due to distance from their shop. New battery was ~$150.00, delivery and install for the job was ~$215.00 ( including the battery). Very fair pricing for being in such need. I've never received service like this for such a reasonable price. Highly recommended, and Thank you Central Garage for helping us complete our trip!!

I brought my car in for my brakes. At first Jay thought it was the caliper, along with the pads and rotors. He gave me a quote, got me an appointment as soon as he could. It turned out not to be the calipers . Jay was HONEST and only charged me for the pads and rotors...I wouldn't have known the difference. My point is, he could have easily charged me the original quote and I wouldn't have known better. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND JAY AT CENTRAL GARAGE!! There are not many kind, honest, humans like him. I will NEVER go anywhere else! Have any of you paid a LOWER price then originally quoted?? Probably not! I cannot thank him enough for being a man of excellent character and fixing my car in a timely, low cost, professional manner! FIVE STARS!Service: Brakes
