Everything you could want from a small town motel in the middle of the mountains. Our stay was in October so the prices were extremely reasonable. We checked in late - the lobby was closed but they left us a note and even wished us "Sweet Dreams!" The room was larger than we expected and had any immediate necessities we would need. We took off early the next morning for wildlife viewing in the park (saw a moose right outside the motel!) so we didn't get to see the lobby or chat with staff but this will be our go-to spot in Cooke City.

Cooke City was very cute. Not a lot of places to eat but the Cafe had great food. No cell service which was fine after all we were there for the peace. Anyhoo, after a fabulous day, we pull into town, we re hungry. Should we check in or eat first?? We decide to eat first. We get to the motel at 9:00pm. The woman in the office whom I assume was the owner was nasty. Apparently, we should have checked in first. She s talking so fast I can t understand her. I ask her to slow down. Nope. I ask her again, tell her I m hard of hearing. Nope. She tried to run my card, it was declined. Forgot to tell them I was traveling. My bad. We get into the room. It s nice. Notes everywhere. Don t do this, don t do that. In the middle of the night my hubby has a mouse crawl up his leg. I m the morning out wake up call is a dirt bike being stated and driven around the cabin. Then a 4 wheeler. WTH?

Booked via info I found on Google. Our trip was spontaneous, so I didn t do the research I normally would do if I had more time. With that being said, I do not think we will ever stay in Cooke City again. The area itself is convenient to the park, it s quaint, and the people are very friendly and nice, but the drawback for us was the expense for what you get. We paid approximately $283 for an upstairs room, thin walls, no elevator, no air conditioning, holes in curtains, thin walls, generic toiletries (bring your own shampoo and conditioner girls). If it wasn t for the mountains, the view outside our window wasn t nice either, junk everywhere. All of this is fine, and we are good with it IF we expect it. But, for the price we paid, it s not what we expected. We paid $100 less for similar accommodations in Cody, and we were happy with it, because we knew what we were getting. So in my haste of booking I should of done more research, so that s on me. The place was clean, the staff was nice, dog friendly, safe, the town quaint, picturesque, and unfortunately very expensive. Dinner at the local Cafe costs us about $100 for 2. They do have amazing poppyseed rum cake, it s $10,95 a slice.Just know what you re getting into out there and do your research.PS- Loved the coffee shop next door, grabbed two coffees, a cinnamon roll and a pastry, on our way out ($22). To me that was worth it. You just have to decide what s worth it to you.Note- There s no cell service in town, but the lodge provided free wifi that worked nicely.Rooms: Rustic accommodations, obviously geared towards Winter snowmobilers, fisherman and hunters.Nearby activities: Close to Yellowstone and Beartooth HighwaySafety: Extremely safe, pet friendly, kid friendly area.Walkability: Located on the town s Main Street, walking distance to cafes, coffee shop, convenience store.Noteworthy details: The town has no cell service, free wifi is provided at the lodge. We stayed upstairs, no air conditioning, but a box fan is provided and the windows slide open.Rooms are clean, but rustic and expensive, but everything is expensive in this town.

If you're looking for a far out cool place, this is it.Anna was very helpful but all the people around are super friendly. The views are amazing. We stayed Jan 2nd 2023 and got to watch the snow fall and the snow mobiles from our room. It's a long drive to get there but if you forgot something, this motel has a convenience store with most things. My husband and I are already planning our next trip out to this city and will be staying here.Dogs are welcome. The place was super clean. And some rooms have full kitchens available.10 out of 10 recommend.Rooms: Rooms are large and equipped with free wifi, coffee, TV, and big bathrooms. The views from every window are breathtaking.Nearby activities: There is a museum/visitor center across the street and a snow mobile rental shop.Safety: The motel itself is safe and welcomging but be careful with the nature. Don't park under roofs during winter and watch out for avalanches on the near by mountains.Walkability: Just about everything is within walking distance from this motel.Food & drinks: The motel has a convenience store that sells food and drinks but there is also a restaurant really close.

We rented the Family Room which came with a bedroom, kitchenette and breakfast booth. It was great for our family of four. The kids loved having the Soda Butte Creek just down the hill from our room. The owner was very helpful with all manner of things related to the room and to the local area.My family especially liked the little gift shop and grocery. We will definitely stay again.

As with almost all of the residents of Cooke City, this Motel was outstandingly friendly. Car trouble forced our stay in the area and though a late hour, Brandon and staff made us very comfortable and helped us resolve problems. The cabins are clean and comfy and the updates that are on going are 5 star. We would stay here again. Thanks Brandon for all the advice and support to get us comfortable and back on the road. You are the best.

My wife, dog, and I were very happy with our stay here, it was just what we were looking for. The owners seemed like just flat out good people. The fire pole is quite the surprise upon entering. You'll see what I mean.Anyone considering staying in Cooke city, recognize that this is a remote place, do not expect every convenience. Do expect a quiet, serene town in a beautiful wilderness wonderland. You can live without Netflix, I promise.

I love this place SO MUCH! Brandon the proprietor is an AWESOME guy. The cabins are perfect for someone like me, who in their mind is a wilderness guy but really needs a bed and 4 walls at the end of the day! Cooke City is the only untouristy place to stay when visiting Yellowstone. It's also super close to the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone, which in my opinion is the absolute best place to see wildlife when visiting. I was just there with a good friend for 3 nights and our stay was fantastic! I've stayed here several times over the years and love it more every time I go. Will keep coming back! Marc H.

we ran a little late and the owner still accommodated us. its a very beautiful isolated area so of course prices are a gona be a bit heavier but it is def worth it! clean, cozy rooms with no a/c but the higher altitude and cool summer storms keep the area cozy and cool. do not pass up the opportunity for to stay here and do the bear tooth pass drive, you wont be disappointed!! two thumbs for this place and the locale!!

Loved it! The people were so nice and down to earth. And the rooms were really very cute and even better they were very clean! I personally loved the fact that you could open every window and let the fresh air in to enjoy. That to me was a real treat, cause you don't find that anymore when your traveling. Id definitely come back here again:)

No cell service in this quaint little town. Decent motel with very nice people although the hot water ran out mid shower. There s no AC and the WIFI doesn t work great. Walls are paper thin so be prepared to hear your neighbors conversations. No phones in room but they have a nice little binder with all you need to know about the town. Great place to unplug and enjoy family time.

We stayed here for the 4th of July and it was amazing! The entire staff was super helpful and friendly! The cabin (#5) was super clean and the perfect size for us. It even had a little lawn/yard which was the perfect spot for my kids to play durning the day and the adults to hang out in the evening. Thank you for such a great experience! We will see you next year!

This place was not like represented online, it was the absolute low point of my trip. The staff is nice, in a town of 90 people when only like three of them are decent people, the kindness mattered, but the unsanitary, unsafe conditions were not made up for by kindness. I recommend bypassing the entire town if possible, you ll save yourself headache, being subjected to outright rudeness, possible constant unsafe conditions, discriminatory conditions within the town, and highway robbery.

We ended up here due to a rodent problem in our other cabin. The owner was very nice and the cabin was clean. Bathroom is small, but it wasn't a problem at all. We were in a cabin, not a room. We definitely would've stayed again if they had room for us. I would recommend it for anyone staying in Cooke City. Wi-Fi was just fine. Now that I know they're pet friendly, I'll be back.

Really nice. Stayed at another Cook City hotel for 15+ years and decided to try High Country. Should have made the change long ago. Neat, super clean, well equipped. Easy walk to the Cook City restaurants - both of them. Best bet for the northeast entrance to YNP.

Always good! We are in unit 9 which has two double beds. Mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave, sink, dishes, coffee maker, hot plate. Shower only. The room is very clean and modern. The bath towels are big and super soft. We stayed here in this unit 3 years ago as well. Motel has wifi which can fade in and out but we are at 8000 feet 4 miles from Yellowstone. The hot tub is closed due to Covid not surprising but in these wide open spaces no issues with social distancing. The town is busy and Yellowstone is open. Wildlife everywhere! Get out of your house and come on up. Fly to Billings and drive up Beartooth highway. A couple of Bison hanging around town yesterday.

WiFi is horrible and rates are a bit high. Cabins are super cute and great if you have children. Stand up shower in cabin are that of airplanes. We stayed for 5 nights and the power went out for 16 hours. Don't count on staff to help...treat it as a camping site and be prepared for anything. As for the town...its absolutely beautiful and Yellowstone is a bucket list must!!!

We love High Country Motel and Cabins and the location in Cooke City. We have stayed here multiple times and will continue to do so when we visit Montana again. They have a little grocery store there as well; pretty much whatever you may need. The owners are super friendly, and I would recommend them 100 percent. Never have had a bad experience there. If you're looking for a place to stay outside of Lamar Valley, check them out. They are also not far from the Beartooth Scenic Parkway... well worth the drive.Rooms: We have stayed multiple times and experienced the cabin rooms and the apartment rooms, all good... this trip we stayed in #7... Highly recommend this if you are staying a few days. It has a kitchen with everything you need to cook if you choose too... One bedroom and bath and a sofa bed if you need an extra bed... and it has a gas fireplace... we really enjoyed it while we were there as it was raining and it made everything just cozier.Walkability: Right in town, walk to everything. Restaurants, gift shops, etc.

Such a cute kitchenette, all the comforts, comfy beds & very clean. Big plush towels that I love. This is the Four Seasons of Cooke City. Keep up the good work.

A comfortable country retreat just 20 minutes from the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. Cabins and motel-style rooms on offer; rooms are spacious and offer all the amenities (wi-fi was very fast). Greatly enjoyed the stay and easy access to Yellowstone park and Bear Tooth Pass.

EXCELLENT VALUE = In booking the duplex room with the fully-equipped kitchen, the excellent value of this place just got better as we saved a lot of money on food (But remember there s no good grocery store in this town). This family-run motel was not only very clean inside, but its location to Cooke City s hiking trails, restaurants, visitor center, and less than 20-minute drive to the borders of Yellowstone allowed us to see much of the north side of the park. BUT DEAL WITH THESE QUIRKS = There was a mild funky smell upon entry which disappeared after a while with our candles. Despite being Verizon customers, cell reception was non-existent (not the hotel s fault) but they had no phone in the rooms either. Wi-Fi was free but very spotty and slow. Reading one email a minute is your best scenario.

Great location right in town but next to the river. Owners are great - knowledgeable and fun - and they have a really cute little store too. Had the giant hot tub all to myself to watch morning light grow on the mountain tops.
