Colonial-era inn with traditional rooms & a homey tavern, plus Wi-Fi & an outdoor pool. Set across 3 historic houses overlooking an apple orchard, this rural New England inn dates from 1771, and is 1.7 miles from the start of the Leadmine Mountain walking trail. All of the homey, colonial-style rooms and suites have en suite bathrooms, cable TV and Wi-Fi. Some are furnished with period antiques. The restaurant and on-site tavern have exposed beams and wood floors, and there's also a bakery. Additional amenities include several meeting spaces and a seasonal outdoor pool. The Publick House was excellent, food and service. The aesthetic was warm & cozy. My sister and I were very pleased with the quality of food & the overall experience. Plenty of parking & the bakery was DELICIOUS! (We also received 10% off at the bakery by showing our restaurant receipt)The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Bathrooms are neat and tidy. 5stars all around ! Also, the hostess took our phone number and notified us when a table was ready, which was also very convenient. :)Nearby activities: Lots of cute little shops nearby, some walking distance, others just a few minutes driving. the cute little curiosity shop next door was adorable & had gorgeous array of jewelry and fine goods. (Sadie Greens). Definitely worth checking out!Food & drinks: They bring you a basket of scrumptious corn bread and cinnamon rolls to start, which was a pleasant surprise! We opted for a few appetizers and split the spinach salad with added grilled chicken. The mozzarella flat bread has this yummy tomato drizzle of some sort that truly made a flavor explosion, as it complimented the arugula perfectly!Crab cake was great especially the remoulade!Noteworthy details: Ambiance and the old school feel of grandmas dining room or a rustic fashioned dining experience. We got sat at 2 arm chairs set against the wall, which was so cozy & fun, the only thing was that I sunk down a bit so I propped myself up with the decorative pillow lol. Hey, it worked!

We met my son there on Saturday for early dinner celebrating Easter as he works at MIT and not available on Sunday. He had a crab cake..it was huge! And fish and chips..hubs and I split pierogis with an onion jam topping for appetizer..he had fish and chips and I had chicken pot pie..the bread basket was phenomenal corn bread..rolls and I believe pecan cinnamon rolls..our server Alicia was very attentive and gracious..they had little cheeping peeps downstairs too..adorable!..the building was built in the 1700's and has all the ambiance of historic building. The town is very charming for a visit as well.. PICS IN ORDER..bread..fish and chips..pierogis..peeps..chicken pot pie..didn't get photo of the crab cake Food & drinks: It was great

We went there just for lunch. We had been several years ago and were disappointed this time. It was very busy. Our waitress was quite stressed. An assistant ran by and dropped a bread basket at our table. That was the highlight of our last visit. We waited about 10 minutes for our drinks. By then the breads were cold, they did not taste fresh, and were not the variety of the past. My cocktail was warm and not worth $11. Meals were OK, not bad, not great. We went for a relaxing lunch in a cozy setting and ended up eating in a noisy, stressful environment.

This is a lovely hotel and a great wedding venue, which is what brought us here. The well-maintained buildings date back to the 1700's; there is plenty of history here. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and well appointed, with a comfortable bed. We are vegan, and we were quite disappointed in the vegan meals that were available. However, we communicated with the management of the inn and they were very open to our input, so I am optimistic that better vegan options will be available in the future. And other than that, we loved this place and would definitely go there again.

This is such a beautiful place in the winter time. It is just so historic and peaceful with so much to offer. I could see why people choose to get married here. We got lost wondering around through all the rooms. Great experience. We went for a family reunion of 10. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. The menu is small but had a variety of options. I chose the salmon. It was...good. However, I found the pairing of the oranges on top....wierd. Maybe instead of putting a whole slice, just sprinkle the juice on? It was a bit overpowering on an already fishy fish and just didnt pair. Otherwise, it was good but nothing outstanding. The fish and chips looked super good. I should have gotten that.

Stopped here for lunch only so room rating is 5 star as I didn't want to downgrade this inn having not tried it. Should be an N/A button here. Anyway have eaten here before. Staff, food and atmosphere are too notch so brought our friends when traveling home from vacation and passing through. We enjoyed our time as well as our meals of salmon, chicken pot pie and Maine chowder. Ask for Crissy as she was a wonderful waitress.Food & drinks: Only ate here in the Tap Room. Everything was great.

Love the historic ambiance. Service is excellent on every touch point. Food is good. I had a rasberry salad, crab cake, and salmon. Salad is just okay for me, but crab cake and salmon are great! I love the crispiness of the crab cake and the jumbo size Salmon is served with quinoa - feel healthy.I will definitely come back the next time when I visit the city.

Quintessential Old New England Inn dating from the early 1700's! Menu consists of informal simple Inn fare. A rambling complex of Inn rentals ranging from single rooms to wedding banquet areas. You wind through the seemingly vast arrangement of restaurants areas and areas to rent for private parties.. always with a feeling you're walking through old New England. Unique and one-of-a-kind. Restaurant fare is tasty and portions generous. Bread pudding was made like my grandmother did. Comfort food in a great Old New England setting. Go!

Bake shop ladies were so friendly and helpful. Expertly packed and baked some of the best cupcakes I ve ever had. I eat a lot of cupcakes and these things were heavenly. Worth the trip. Especially love that well behaved dogs are welcome on the patio during summer time! Foods always great here but today these cupcakes just made my entire life. Thanks to the bake shop staff and bakers for making the most perfect pastries and cakes.Food & drinks: Cupcakes were literally heavenly

What an amazing experience! The grounds were beautifully maintained. The service was wonderful, staff was so friendly and helpful. We ate dinner in the Ebenezer Tavern. 6 of us, clam chowder delicious, and our meals and drinks were very good. Bakery ladies so sweet and friendly! Highly recommend this as a stop or destination. Stayed in December, at the Tillyer. Christmas decorations were beautiful. Really can't say enough positive about the Inn! Quaint, charming New England vibe!Rooms: Rooms were clean, comfortable.Food & drinks: Food was delicious. Drinks were good.

A cute historical establishment that unfortunately leans on its location and historical beauty to make up for the cuts it s made. When we arrived it took far too long to check in as the receptionists insisted on sticking to a lengthy spiel about restaurants and dining even after being asked to skip it by multiple patrons. The line was quickly out the door before the first person in line was even finished. Unfortunately the speil wasn t even useful and was accompanied by a map that barely labeled anything of importance. We were attending one of seven weddings that weekend, and the staff seemed unprepared for what I can only assume is a typical load. Our room was also a disaster. The bed creaked as if we were staying in a historical boat, not an inn, at the slightest movement. It was sunken in the middle, causing backaches for myself and my partner that haven t gone away. Plus, The water pressure in the shower is trivial and they do not provide housekeeping during stays, I expect more for the price being paid. The only bright spots were the lovely women at the bake shop who were time and again more helpful than the rest of the staff. I wish the rest of the food, provided by the public house, at the wedding was as good as the baked goods.Ultimately, I cannot recommend this location, if your family plans a wedding, stay elsewhere

Bake Shoppe Review: We have been getting cakes from the Publick House Bakery for years. This past November they would not take an order for my son's birthday cake because it was too close to Thanksgiving (his birthday was three days after). I gave them another chance for my daughter's birthday cake in December. I was told they don't make a spice cake, while I had just had one for my mother in October, and was told that they would not omit the nuts from the carrot cake because they would not make any special requests so close to Christmas, (her birthday was four days after). The woman taking my order even had to ask if they would do snowflakes on the cake! The people working in the Bakery taking orders are very nice, but the bakers are the ones who are refusing to take orders for custom cakes...telling the customer what the will and won't do. Why have custom cake orders if they dictate to you what they will and won't do on your custom cake? Unfortunately, they have lost our family's business for cakes...we will take our business somewhere we can get the cake we want, not one that has been dictated to us.

My husband and I and another couple dined at the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was all delicious! Our server was Chrissy and she was fantatastic. My only complaint is that the food was not hot and only kind of lukewarm so maybe take that into consideration if you have the buffet next year. Thanks for a great dinner. We'll be back next year! :)

The Publick House is such a great location for a wedding! We are lucky to photograph weddings here often and it has so much historic charm! The field with the barns is a great spot for couples photos and all of the ceremony spaces are absolutely gorgeous. We highly recommend getting married at Publick House!

Stayed here for a friends wedding and loved the grounds. Well maintained and stunning. However there wasn t a lot of guidance for where events were happening and there were no signs or staff to guide us. The room was clean and nice, but the bed was lumpy and creaky. We ended up being tired enough that it didn t matter but still worth noting

Did not stay over. We ate an abundant early dinner in the dining room. Food, service, and ambiance were excellent. High end but reasonably priced considering the quality and portion sizes. Our drinks were perfect also. Our server was Jessie, and they couldn't have been any nicer or helpful. We were weary travelers passing through town and found a gem of a dining experience Safety: Handicap accessibleFood & drinks: Great variety and quality.Their cider was tops!Noteworthy details: This is a well-preserved, very historic hotel.

Beautiful place. Room (lodge)was a good size and nice and clean. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was small but clean. I only wish they had coffee machines in the room.Nearby activities: We went to Old Sturbridge Christmas by Candlelight which is right down the street. Easy to find and get back to the Inn.Was a wonderful evening.Food & drinks: Ate lunch in the Pub. Food was great and the waitress was very friendly. Such a nice atmosphere.Noteworthy details: All employees were so friendly and helpful.

We arrived in time to have dinner before heading to our room. Our server was very friendly and very attentive, cocktails were tasty and the food was amazing! We spent the night in the Country Motor Lodge. The room was large, beds were super comfy and the water pressure in the shower was good. We checked out the grounds the next day and everything is just stunning! Free coffee and pastries in the Bake Shoppe in the morning to top it all off. Would definitely stay here again!

If I can describe this place in three words or less, I would have to say... beyond my expectations! I reserved a room and discovered that it was not the place I reserved but within minutes and without hesitation they set it straight and put me where I was supposed to be or even better. The staff are wonderful. I got much more than expected like common areas in each building where you can drink coffee or tea and relax. A bakery that serves coffee and muffins on them for breakfast at no extra cost, but has a restaurant where you can get full course meals for a small price. It is historical and well kept. The rooms are fabulous. I missed out on a lot of things but hope to return some day and get to discover more about place. It's the best inn I've ever been in so far.

Beautiful quaint and quiet. There are two sections of this hotel. If you want historic and nostalgic, ask for a room in the main building which is the historic lodge. Its connected to the restuarant and pub. Otherwise, there is a motor lodge part of this property located up hill from the main building. The main lodge had gorgeous flower gardens and landscape that made our stay that much more enjoyable! "Pretty" everywhere you looked! Super comfy beds. Very clean. Bathroom was small but had great water pressure in shower. Great restaurant with delicious food. Try the clam chowder! 10% off for hotel guests when dining in the restaurant and pub. Dinners and soups served with an array of rolls and sweet breads. On site bakery had lots of sweet delights, and guests of the hotel get complementary rolls, sweet breads and coffee for breakfast. So delicious! We definitely recommend this great little place!

Tastiest baked scrod I ever enjoyed, by far. Excellent attentive service. Historic Colonial ambiance. All-in-all a perfect dining experience!
