Absolutely the best place to take your vehicle when no one can figure out the problem. Honestly, if I have an electrical problem they are the only ones I trust to take it to and figure it out the first time.

I have been going to Matt for years. He is so great with communication. Super friendly staff and a clean shop. You call and talk to his wife Annette. Schedule your appointment, then while your car is being looked at they communicate with you all along the way. They will let you know what they find and how much it will costs to repair. He has fixed a lot of complex problems for us especially electrical. I would highly recommend this local business to anyone in the Des Moines Area looking for a Mechanic. When looking for a mechanic you are always wanting someone you can trust. I trust Matt. If he doesn t provide a service or it isn t in his wheel house they will let you know up front.

My car had some pretty serious issues that another auto shop didn't want to touch. I was sent to Automotive Engineering because I was told they are great at handling some of those more challenging problems.First, the gal at the front desk (I don't remember her name. I'm terrible with names) was definitely the sweetest auto shop receptionist/clerk I have ever spoken with. She was kind, friendly, and assured me that they'd do their best not to make me pay any more than absolutely necessary. It was a serious issue with the car, and, though it was expensive, I still had a better feeling based on my first impressions. When they gave me an estimate, I did my due diligence and called another Des Moines area favorite auto shop (Terry's) to see if the pricing was comparable. It was identical. So I figured I'd give this place a shot. As you can see from their sparse reviews that are more negative than positive, I had my hesitation. But I thought I'd go here since the auto shop who referred me is well respected.I had my car towed there, and by accident it was sent next door. I read some horrible reviews about the place next door. When the place next door offered to service my vehicle, I declined and made sure Automotive Engineering got my car.Once my car was there, I spoke regularly with Aaron, the Manager there. He was super kind (just like the clerk) and explained in detail what was going on. He made sure to call the dealership and ask about the issue with my car to get more details. It was very thorough. When I went to pick up my car, we chatted for a while and the general feel of the shop was welcoming and friendly. I've been to many auto shops where I'm just another number. Questions are met with condescension. Etc. This was not the case here.I felt like I was talking to someone who had Christian values and treated me like an equal. Christian radio was playing in the shop. That can mean something or it can mean nothing. To me it meant something. If you want a good experience, friendly people who won't rake you over the coals, and an effective job done for your vehicle - then check out Automotive Engineering. I know I'll be back with my next car problem (hoping there isn't one).

Our car had noise in rear axel area. Another shop "couldn't hear or find it" but Matt and his crew communicated their thoughts and, with our okay, found it & fixed it! Great communication, great work, very happy with prompt, reliable care! Thanks, Matt!!!

Matt and Aaron are reliable, knowledgable men who have helped me more than once with my automotive concerns. Whether I want them to look at a car I'm thinking about buying, giving my car an oil change, or repairing something more serious, I trust them to be honest and fair. These talented men have a great business! While they were very busy with work, they made the time to look at my car to make sure that I was safe. I highly recommend Automotive Engineering in Clive, Iowa.

This shop is one of the few places in town that will work on after market parts/problems. I had a headlight that was after market LED and it was broken... rather than finding a new one (had to do that myself and i have no idea how to do that...) we decided to bring it back to the original OEM headlights so it required some rewiring. I thought the shop did well on keeping me up to date and were friendly to talk to to give me my options.I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars because their website says they are open at 8am, the door sign says they are open at 8:15 am, but i believe they were actually open at 9am today... confusing... and also, I believe i was quoted $250 over the phone, but maybe that was without the oil change or without tax, not sure.. but then the bill was $318, maybe because there was some confusion about synthetic vs synthetic blend oil. They adjusted my bill down to the synthetic blend price which i REALLY appreciated (They offered to do that without me asking so i thought that was really nice) and i walked out of there with $275. I would recommend to give the after tax price for the entire bill over the phone next time so that the customers know what to expect coming in.Overall i had a pleasant experience with this "mom & pop" type auto repair place. It's nothing fancy with big screen tv's in the waiting room and a glass of wine to drink, but they are down to earth and have been around for more than 30 years i believe... so they must be doing something right!

I have taken multiple vehicles to their workshop for a wide range of repairs and aftermarket installations. The owners are awesome people and make you feel like family. The work is always done fairly and if there are delays it is always communicated promptly.

Place is a scam went in was told 100 to just touch my car I agreed left my car overnight than got a call and was told 200 to just touch my car.... never said you scam me, I said if u look again your place is a scam we had a agreement between a old lady price was a 100 to diagnose my car why would I lie when westside pros auto business is right behind your business and they offer a solid price of 145 up front i knew this before coming to your business they offer no change in agreement or guessing a upfront price !! Ur place is a scam that to leave my car and change the price once you already had it.. I guess you figured it would be more likely of me to say yes to a higher price if I wanted my car fix the date of service agreed upon and prolong the problem of me not having my car another day . Poor upfront business standards.Tell why would I agree to leave my car with your business if westside auto pros had a better deal ????? Because I was falsely told a price just to get my car and force a higher price than originally agreed!!! Classic bait and switch this place will scam you into a bad deal go to westside auto pros better up front business no guessing no price changes
