I stayed here on a cross-country trip, having no previous experience with Amana and no awareness of any of the history. It was between spring break and summer, so the area and hotel were extremely quiet.I thought it was very charming, and had a nice stroll around the area and through the buildings. There is a great store selling site-made blankets and other wares. I took home a king size bed cover that was extremely reasonably priced for a woven wool blanket, and an Amana t-shirt.The room was lovely with a nice view out the back of the building toward a creek. Comfortable bed, good enough wi-fi, and the bathroom was nice with a great shower. Really no complaints!I can see how it could get noisy if there were other guests around, as there is so much concrete/metal/hardwoods and not many soft surfaces to absorb sound. The room doors were also very heavy and you had to catch it so it wouldn't slam shut.I was pleased to find a nice and modern place to stay in such a rural location, and it was perfect for my needs.

What a lovely hotel in the Amana Colonies! Completely remodeled mill that is still an active running mill. They make very nice bed linens. The room was huge and very clean. It had a European flair with German cleanliness. The breakfast diner had great options and very pleasant wait staff( both women!) Thanks for the beautiful hotel!

We have the most amazing experience at hotel millwright. It was appointed beautifully. Our experience with the staff from check-in, cocktails at the bar, meeting the GM, a late night call from the front desk & checkout in the morning were nothing short of exceptional. We were both so pleasantly surprised to be in such a bougie hotel with such a laid back staff in such an unsuspecting town. Gratitude.

Absolutely love this hotel and everthing it offers. Staff is so super nice and helpful. Rooms are gorgeous. Food and bar is wonderful. Its a little confusing parking lot and finding lobby at first. Love the history and decorations. The only thing that was frustrating was due to understanding calling front desk and getting a person is hard. Wish they would offer room service with bar and resturant. We will be returning in the summer.Nearby activities: We came for Winterfest and it was a blast. All the community participates. Games and a lot of drinking.

We stayed at the Hotel Millwright for two nights. We attended an Iowa football game as well as the Field of Dreams.Check-in was a breeze, and the receptionist was very nice and professional. Our room was clean, spacious and well designed.Every staff person we encountered was extremely helpful and polite. We especially enjoyed Hilary at the bar. Her bartending skills and conversations were great. The second night Hilary was our restaurant waitress, and she was just as helpful and professional. We were also impressed with Kenzie and Olivia in the breakfast area Sunday morning. They both seem to enjoy their jobs. We had a great breakfast before checking out. A fabulous stay and will definitely be back! ~Wayne

We stayed one night here on a road trip and were really impressed with the hotel. It's well done. The old mill buildings are large and industrial but at the same time modern and quirky. There's a huge lobby, a bar and restaurant and a smaller bar. The rooms are very large and extremely clean and comfortable. Our only complaint was the restaurant food--it was not great and for high priced food, a big disappointment. My boyfriend said his sandwich tasted like an old shoe. The restaurant could also use some personality, it feels like an airport lounge. That being said, the hotel was great. Hopefully they will make some improvements to the food.Rooms: Rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean.Walkability: Close to all the stores in the Amana Colonies.

Very nice hotel in a refurbished textile mill. Historic throughout. Reasonable prices. Only negative was that our room looked out on the mechanical workings of a roof below. Not the best of views!Drinks at bar were very good, as was morning breakfast. Friendly staff.

We made a reservation for 2 nights online and fully paid for our stay. We were less than 5 minutes from the hotel on a Saturday evening when we received a call from Dave at the hotel telling us there wasn't a clean room for us and our reservation was canceled. We made our reservation direct right through the hotel site. Not impressed and Dave just talked himself in circles.

Unique, boutique rooms, close enough to walk to anything. Counter people were extremely helpful and friendly. The only minor issue is the walls are not as thick as they look so nite one was perfect but night 2 the ladies next door were talking/laughing a little loudly but can't blame the hotel for that.Rooms: Clean, well appointed. Rainfall showerhead with large shower. Microwave, fridge and coffee maker in the room.Nearby activities: Shops galore to explore!Walkability: A short walk to most of the shops and restaurantsFood & drinks: Ox yolk Inn was good food even if service was on the slow side but view outside was nice.

This is a recently refurbished historic woolen in the heart of the Amana communities. Our room was spacious and well furnished. We enjoyed a nice dinner and breakfast the next morning in the restaurant (the Indigo Room) in the hotel. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. There is an active weaving mill for cotton and wool fabrics right next door, with an attached gift shop in case you want to take some souvenirs home.Walkability: Close to the concentration of shops and restaurants in Amana...an easy stroll.Food & drinks: Excellent food, sort of a cross between the German style fare in other Amana restaurants and upscale American cuisine. Limited menu but our two dishes were excellent.

Our stay at Hotel Millwright was great! The property itself is an amazing piece of history. The buildings are all unique and wonderfully restored. Our room was large, with vaulted ceilings. We were there attending a wedding and stayed for the evening. The wedding venue and the venue where we took pictures were amazing. The staff were all hard working and friendly. We are now planning on taking a vacation for ourselves here, in the future.Rooms: Spacious, clean, comfortable. Great air unit in the room. Updated amenities.Nearby activities: There are so many businesses within walking distance.Safety: The parking lot was well lit and felt very safe.Walkability: Close to all properties in the Amana Colonies.Food & drinks: The food & drinks were great!

Nicely renovated woolen mill, that has spacious rooms and minimalist decor. There are antique milling objects on display throughout. The staff is very helpful, especially when recommending where to park closest to your room/elevator, even though the hotel is only 2 stories along the quiet millrace. There is a restaurant on site, as well as a bar. You can also see some of the woven products, or opt to rent a Suite with a more immersive weaving experience.Near the dead end of a road in the main Amana town, very walkable to shops and restaurants.Rooms: very spacious, with individual controlled AC/HeatingNearby activities: restaurants and shopsSafety: quiet locationWalkability: within easy distance of the main drag in Amana

Our family is obsessed with Hotel Millwright. We stay here twice a year, and it's hands down, our favorite hotel. If you are looking for clean, updated, roomy accommodations this is the place for you. Amana is such a wonderful, relaxing place. Staying at this hotel is the icing on the cake. We love the cool industrial vibe of the converted textile mill. There is a lot of attention to detail in the decor. And the beds are sooo comfortable! I have stayed here many times the past few years and it still feels like a new hotel. We go out of our way to stay here, and honestly, we always hate to leave.

The Hotel Millwright far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is a repurposed textile mill which has an amazing amount of modern decor mixed with industrial equipment and original architecture. It was like staying in a museum mixed with a top rated hotel. The breakfasts were amazing, particularly the bread pudding with caramel sauce and a fantastic ham and cheese strata with pesto. To top things off all of the staff were helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable about the Amana Colonies. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel as well as a visit to the Amana Colonies themselves.

First time in Iowa, visiting family in Cedar Rapids. Stumbled upon this hidden gem and couldn t be happier. Let s start with the service. I checked in at 3:30 in the morning and called before I came. I expressed my worries to the front desk and by the time I got there, she had already inspected the room (to make sure my concerns weren t realized,) checked me in, and had a map and a key waiting for me.Things i love about this hotelRoom is very spacious,The windows do open (i love fresh air)Very friendly staffClean and very unique fixtures and decorations to fit the themeVery generous with towels in the bathroomAlso spacious shower with high water pressure. And The very peaceful little neighborhood that this hotel is in. (It s located in a little village like setting)If i ever visit Iowa again, this is definitely where I m staying.

Very friendly staff. We were looking for quiet and we got it. The 3-year old renovation has been done extremely well, blending modern amenities into a truly historical building.Walkability: Amana is truly a "walkabout" town, and this motel is perfectly located.

I can t say enough good things about this hotel! The staff knew the ins and outs of every inch of the hotel. Check in was easy. Everything was clearly marked from temporary parking to room numbers. I ve never seen a hotel with rooms decorated with photos of the surrounding area and textiles used to support local business. Probably one of the most comfortable rooms and beds I ve ever stayed in! I ve stayed on hundreds of hotels, this one is near the top. Amana is a destination location, and Hotel Millwright is the place to stay. Don t miss out.
