I recently fell in love with an abandoned 79 280zx at my general mechanic s yard. It wasn t running and had weeds growing over the side. There was just something about it though. I fell in love at first sight and knew I had to have the car. Little did I know one of the best Z mechanics in the country was only 20 minutes from me! (People ship their cars to guy from all over the country to have him restore)Well I bought the car and got it running (terribly albeit) and it would limp along and die after 5-10 minutes. After 3 different mechanics recommended the Z Doctor for this car I took it in for his 3 hr tuneup/ Valve adjustment service. He also helped me get some lock cylinders rebuilt and keyed alike.Response time was slow for the first week as Guy was pre occupied with a couple other projects. Once he got to my car though I was blown away with his level of attention and service.I work at a service center with over 25 technicians on a daily basis. I ve found that most tech s bill flat rate and bill as many hours as possible in the least amount of time. Our most efficient techs can bill as much as 20 hrs in a day.Guy (The Z Doctor) is the first mechanic I ve worked with who I feel works MORE time than he s actually billing for (or at least works every minute of time billed). In my opinion the value far exceeded the price.Due to his personal connections Guy was able to source a near perfect condition original gas tank for my car and didn t even charge extra for the drive and to pull the part from the donor. He also went above and beyond cleaning 40+ years of grime off the engine and fixing some of my other mistakes (improperly rated fuel lines etc) while he was in there. His sourcing alone probably saved me over $500, tons of research and time. Plus now my car sounds like a proper sports car and is so much more responsive.Overall, I highly recommend the Z Doctor. Just be patient with your timeline and trust his guidance and you ll be extremely satisfied.

The owner went out of his way to help diagnose over the phone, offered hours of wisdom and free advice that took decades to acquire. Doc/Guy helped us fix things ourselves, shared rare Z parts and provided in shop diagnostics and precision repair at a very fair price. Others shops would charge more while learning how to repair my son's Z. He has a customer for life. I found my 1972 Datsun 240z in Eagle in 2011 and soon after found about The Z Doctor through word of mouth. After taking my 240z car to Guy he shared things about the Z cars, and my car that I only wished that knew before I purchased mine. The car only had 22,000 original miles but it had also been in a collision that lead me to find another donor car to place this low mileage drivetarin in. Guy performed all the work and has been my only mechanic that I trust will take the absolute best care of it since that time. Guy knows these Z cars inside and out. Guy even has spare parts if needed, or can help locate them. He has helped me over the years from total surgery to adding an after market A/C unit (works great), new stereo and speakers, sound dampening materials in the doors (a must do), along with suspension upgrades, mics fixes, as well as general maintenance. To tell you the truth the list is much more than that but if you need any work done to your Z car don't go anywhere else. Guy knows these cars and cares about his clients. He listens and does great work. I plan on having my 240z for a long time and I know Guy will be the only guy to work on my Z car. Greg Boss, Boise, Idaho

I m a new owner of a couple 1973 240z s. I called Guy to inquire about parts and ask for general guidance and advice on modifying, repairing and maintaining these vehicles. He spent more than 30 minutes of his time answering every question and providing suggestions. His expertise is obvious, and his willingness to help is greatly appreciated and admired. Truly 5 stars!

Fantastic work done on my 280zx. Was running poorly, to say the least, after years of storage. Runs absolutely perfect after the doctor serviced it. His knowledge and attention to detail are second to none. Very fair price. Gotta a Z? Z Doctor is where you want to go to get your car fixed AND not have to pay extra for things you don't need. Guy is honest and will not oversell or take advantage of you. He's fixed a few of my cars and always does a great job.Another shop just tried to charge me $1300 for something I didn't need, and Guy had everything done for significantly less.Cannot recommend Z Doctor enough.

Guy is thorough, knowledgeable and talkative. He knows and loves Datsun Z cars. Drove my 240Z from Orem to Boise to get some neglected problems repaired. After decades of my bandaids, Guy dug in, finding and fixing dozens of rotten, incorrect, and wornout parts, rebuilt the carbs, antenna, and many other systems. From cooling system problems, to fuel, suspension, and electrical parts.His garage is off the street, but his work is spot on. He's got original parts all over his place, knows what is still available, what the best substitutes are, and where to get anything else.Full of car stories and suggestions, his loquacious exterior hides a very conscientious worker. As he got into working on the car, he'd email updates with pictures. He is very over-booked and in demand, but patience pays off. Waited 4 months to take it in, almost 6 months at the shop, but the results are outstanding. When picked it up, I got work orders, listing all part's cost, labor timecards, a written description of all repairs, and a thumb drive full of photos. He went through the large pile of the parts he removed from my car describing what was wrong with each, mostly worn out.Car now drives like new, my confidence in all aspects of this 240Z (I inherited from my mom) are solid.Still more work is needed in some areas, but I got my money's worth and will take it back to Guy with great confidence.

My daughter s 350 Z had some mechanical issues. She has used several local mechanics with not much luck. After finding the Z Doctor she will never go anywhere else. He is honest, which unfortunately is hard to find these days, sends updates with pictures and explanations of what he is doing.But the best thing about guy is his knowledge of Nissan vehicles, her Z has never run better.He is a super nice guy and we are so happy we found him.Services: Electrical repair, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair, Oil change

Guy has been a superb resource to me analyzing Z Cars that I have been interested in purchasing. His knowledge is extensive and he is just a pleasure to work with. I have owned Z Cars as a hobbyist for decades and have never met anyone as knowledgable. I recommend Guy and Z Doctor to anyone looking for a fair, professional & knowledgeable Z Car shop.

If you have a Datsun Z car, this IS your guy. He can also help you with Roadsters (1600 & 2000) and probably any other Datsun. He is versatile and easy to deal with. Reasonable price and quality work.

Any "big box" brand mechanic can fix your car but they'll overcharge you, upsell you on things you don't need and take advantage of the fact that you don't have a vast knowledge of cars.I've been going to Guy for close to a decade and it has been the best decision that I could have made when it comes to car maintenance. Guy is personable, educational, honest, hard-working, and to top it all off he's reliable. Guy will never overcharge you or try and sell you something that you don't need. Guy is genuinely the best mechanic in the valley, regardless of what kind of car you bring to him. He's made my Subaru like new while keeping the cost affordable. Guy's gone out of his way to help me and that's just not something that you'll see at any other shop.Guy is the exact person that you want working on your car!

There is a reason Z Doctor is the go-to shop for everything Datsun.Although the shop is focused on the Z car models, Guy is a true Datsun savant - he's seen them all. I brought my Fairlady Roadster to him for a complete once over and was incredibly impressed with the knowledge, skill and care he puts into his work. He approached every problem with a detailed and through estimate of not only cost but the necessity of the repair. Guy, the Z Doctor, finally got me in and the result is awesome! I've never had a Datsun 620, who I call Homer Datsun, run this well and I've owned a total of five. The work Guy completed was to remove all choke point emissions then installed a Weber Carb, new intake manifold, ceramic coated header and new exhaust. Homer Datsun runs like a champ! There was only one issue but it was completely out of the Z Doctor's hands. On my way home from picking up the truck, the throttle cable got a little sticky and I had to turn the vehicle off. I called Guy and he closed his shop and drove to where I was stranded. That IS what customer service is all about! Guy the 'Z' Doctor is genuine has they come. I took my 21 yr old son in to have his 1990 300 Z diagnose. Guy the owner is old school mentality no BS. Just a straight shooter and I appreciate his honesty. Bar down you looking for a mechanic that knows his cars. He is the REAL deal! Very Rare to find a Master mechanic and still very passionate of what he does. Highly Recommend. You will not regret it. JC

I have owned my 1971 240Z since 1975. Fortunately, i have not had anything too major to fix on it. I have had my share of mechanics who say they can work on the Z. I decided to finally take some TLC on the car because it is a '71. I went to the Z doctor and now know it is the only place to take a Z. The service went well beyond expectations. Guy knows and loves the Z line. My car runs great. Guy stayed with the project until he was satisfied and I was satisfied with the results.

The BEST and only place to go for your Z car needs. Guy takes pride in his work and it shows every time you get your car back. I've taken my 300zx twin turbo to him a couple of times now and I have nothing but excellent things to say. I had all my injectors replaced and upgraded as well as a few other things while the car was with him, and it has been running flawlessly ever since. From one car guy to another, thank you Guy!

Such a great atmosphere from the moment you walk in the shop, and always very graciously welcomed by the Z Doctor. He is a very knowledgeable and a very humble guy, it makes it hard not to stay at the shop for hours and talk about various projects he has. I have owned my Z for a little over 4 years and do to the fact I was in high school I wasn t making a lot of money. The owner made it a mission to do everything he could to help me with anything I needed, whether it was supplying me with quality parts or walking me through step by step how to do things on my car! Needless to say, my Z would not be where it is today if it wasn t for the Z Doctor. Very thankful for this business!

Not knowing of any shops specifically working on Z Cars, I Googled some key words and the Z Doctor came up in Garden City ID. Being in Oregon, It was quite a drive away, but since our kids live in Boise, I figured we would check this shop out on one of our visits.Man am I glad I took a leap of faith. Guy Pumpelly, on that first visit to his shop immediately was welcoming and made sure I never felt like an idiot not being a car repair person myself, in fact I know very little about cars inside or out. I definitely have a "project car" that needs a ton of work. I have the worst mouse issue with every nook and cranny having a full nest with the associated excrement. I asked Guy about doing as much of the non-technical work as I can and he actually encouraged me to do so as my time was much cheaper than paying his professional time. 2 months since that visit, Guy has responded to so many emails from me with questions on how to do this or that on the car. He had very good and right on suggestions to solve the problem at hand. I have not paid Guy anything at this point, although he could charge a consulting fee, but he doesn't, that's not his style. He knows he will eventually have my car in his shop for the majority of the restoration at some point. Guy has a customer service you rarely find anymore. As a business owner myself, Its easy to see that Guy "Gets it". Awesome shop and my car isn't even there yet.

I took our 73 Z to Guy for some much needed attention. We have owned it 47 years (3 more payments and it s all ours ) but the last 30 years it has been driven very little. Guy tuned it up, corrected some things and gave me a comprehensive list of things the car needs. The engine in this car has never been apart and has 218,000 miles on it.It now runs great and transports me back to that 21 year old kid I once was. It has a few creaks and groans just like me but we grew into them together. When I buckle into the old girl, we can still be pretty sporty.Thanks, Guy. You own the title The Z Doctor .I ll be back.

I purchased a 280z for my wife and brought it into the Z Doctor for troubleshooting and advice for service. Guy did a thorough once over and performed some needed service on the car. Unfortunately, service on the gas tank did not go well but Guy took the car back and gladly made things right. I will definitely take the car back!

Took my 240Z (s/n 00676) to Guy and was overwhelmed with his knowledge and ability to recover my engine and suspension which had failed me. Car purrs like new and rides better than new! Very, Very pleased I went to Guy, would recommend him to all my friends that own a Z car of any year. Thank you again.

Went to Dennis Dillon Nissan because my 350z was smoking and was told that I was gonna need a new engine for 8k because , my o rings were bad on top of the 917$ service charge. (They took about 1 week and a half to even give me a rough diagnosis). I wasn t gonna buy a new engine so I took it to the z doctor after a friend recommended him to me and he figured out my problem in 1 day and most importantly saved me 8k. Engine was fine and didn t need replacement. Fair and honest company.

I recently purchased a 1972 240Z. This a bucket list car for me so I was anxious to drive the wheels off it.So I was very disappointed that I couldn t because it wasn t running very well. I checked around and it was clear that Guy at Z Doctor was where I needed to go, and I have not been disappointed. He s been straight with me about all of the issues that he s seeing and what it will take to get it to be a daily driver. He s taken my calls every time and promptly answered all of my emails- that in itself is a good enough reason to trust him with your car. He s old school in that he knows the car inside out, knows how to analyze what s wrong, and has the skill to fix it. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. Give Guy a call. I first took my '93 300Z in to Guy (a real doctor of Z cars!) for a once-over after I bought it 14 years ago and haven't trusted another mechanic with it since! Hes helped me keep it running strong for 14 years now! I walked into his shop as a 19 year old who didn't know much about cars and he never tried to rip me off or charge me for something that wasn't needed. Because of his honesty, knowledge, openness about pricing/cost, customer service and work ethic I haven't gone anywhere else. He treats all of his customers well and isn't happy until his customers are satisfied. That's hard to find!

Guy really knows his stuff! If you have an older Datsun and you need to have work done on it, this is the shop. Guy is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain what's going on in terms that you can understand. His work is great and his pricing is extremely fair. I own a 1970 240Z #2696. I had a question about my engine rebuilt that had me stuck. Guy went into detail, over the phone, about how to troubleshoot the problem. He was spot on. When it came time to put the engine in the car, he took me through step by step with each and every hurdle I encountered. I was having an issue with my Pace Setter headers not being flush to the cylinder head. Guy asked if I could get the car from Mountain Home to Boise, and I could. I am very glad I did. So much was wrong and he helped me with all of it. Today we got her to start and run on her own power. I have a few things to wrap up, but for the most part, she is back on the road again! Guy knows his stuff. He is very detailed and will talk you though everything when he explains his workflow. If you have not been to the shop, you must check it out. Give him a call and find out what he can do for you and your Z. Any year, any model!Guy, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help, support and knowledge you have given me over the past months.

I took my 1983 ZX to Guy thinking that I had a bad transmission bearing. Half an hour into the shop, he immediately diagnose it to be something else, that something else was the heat shield that somehow it was hitting the driveshaft. His knowledge of the Z is second to none. I asked Guy to go over my car from the front to back and i'm glad he did because the car needed a lot of work that I did not know I had. While guy had my car he updated me on the worked accomplished via email, with before and after pictures. By the way, from my house to Guy's shop is over 150 miles one way. If my car needs future work done, I wouldn't hesitate to take it back to him.
