Mike was great! I rolled into Boise in my 1985 Vanagon with a blown coolant level sensor and not only did he have one in stock, he took time to show me how to correctly replace it and bleed the system. I know he was super busy that day, but I really appreciated his help! You can tell he has a great love for VW's and he is super helpful. I definitely recommend him for anything you need!

When I see one individual posting multiple negative comments concerning a business that I ve relied on for more than twenty years, I take notice. In this case the commentary and assertions just don t jibe with my long standing experience with Allan s Automotive. The relationship I ve had with Mike and Allan s Automotive has been one of trust and mutual respect. Mike has always been up-front, honest and I can count on his counsel where my car s welfare is concerned. I often wonder who I could trust to service and repair my bus if Mike decided to retire. I can t tell you how many times Allan s has fixed the annoying little things that can go wrong with an aging vehicle like mine, at no charge. The level of customer service Allan s provides is rare these days. Finally, I appreciate Mike s ability to quickly determine what needs to be done to remedy the problems my car presents and his straight-talk approach - He says what he means and means what he says.I recommend Allan s Automotive wholeheartedly and without reservation. If your VW needs service or repair, there s only one place in Idaho to turn to - Allan s Automotive.

RELIABLE for decades. We have been taking our late-70s bus to Allan's Automotive for years and years and have always been pleased with the service, level of knowledge, reliability and honesty. Mike is great to work with and always goes the extra mile whether it be parts, service, or advice. I really don't know what we'd do without them. Thanks for the great work over the years!

My wife and I attended a vw show last weekend and noticed parts had fallen off my van. We were introduced to Mike and he helped us find the part we needed and even helped install it! Great guy and I'll just say that the Boise vw community is Lucky to have him!!

Rolled in to Boise area and noticed voltage was low. Since staying at a campground, couldn't work on van at camp so called Mike the next morning, he said to head on over. Arrived and Mike was extremely helpful. Gave me a spot to pull regulator and handed me the tools to do so as I had left my tools at the campground. Had a regulator on the shelf. Installed and was back on the road quickly. Had a great conversation with Mike. Many thanks! Highly recommend Allans Automotive for any VW needs in the area.

I'm the original owner of an 89 VW Vanagon. Mike has done all my service for past 12 years. When you drive up to the shop all you see is VWs - like the best diner in town where all the locals eat breakfast. Mike knows everything there is to know about Vanagons, buses, all the classic VWs. Getting parts for an older car is a bit of an art form, and Mike knows all the sources, who makes the best after market parts, who used to make good parts but doesn't anymore, really deep knowledge that comes from working on these cars all day every day. He's also as honest as they come, and I trust him completely with my pride and joy. I've never been disappointed with his work - it's always top notch, and he's always willing to spend the time to answer all my questions, no matter how busy he is. I've been in Boise for 20 years, and Mike's reputation for knowledge and quality work is well known in town among people who love and care for their older VWs.

Brought in my 1980 VW Rabbit and it wouldn t start. They claimed my fuel pump had to be replaced & my fuel tank had to be cleaned-out of all the grime and whatever else was growing inside. Towed it back home and wondered how they could make that determination without seeing it. The filter was clean and the access port to the tank was never touched. So, I opened it myself to have a look. The tank was completely clean. Had I told them to proceed with repairs, I would ve wasted the $500 they quoted. Then I saved the $1500 they quoted to replace the fuel pump by doing it myself. And it didn t fix the problem. So now I m wondering if replacing the pump was really necessary. Not saying it wasn t (there certainly could be more to it), but I ve been lied to once already.Nope, I don t recommend this place. And I don t share their opinion that it d probably be better just to scrap the car for parts, either.***** EDIT *****Allan,I m so sorry. I assumed I was lied to because all I was told was there was algae inside and it had to be cleaned-out. When I looked for myself, it was clean. I had no idea you removed & cleaned the screen and replaced the filter in the engine compartment. That would explain why it appeared to be clean. Regardless, if I read the sales receipt, I would ve seen that you had in fact cleaned the screen. I m so sorry for assuming I was lied to. I should ve called and asked directly. I realize nothing that happened to the car was your fault. In light of this information, I have complete faith in your shop again. I know for sure I need to get the tank cleaned-out now and the pump definitely needed to be replaced. Speaking of which, the re-built pump I bought turned-out to be bad. I m still dealing with that, but hopeful the new pump, tensioner, belt & cleaned-out tank will help me get it running again. Anyway, I apologize again and I m changing my review to 5 stars for your excellent diagnosis and going above & beyond the diagnosis by cleaning the screen without charging me extra. Thank you, Allan.
