I brought my car in to get a second opinion after I was told I needed new calipers, and break pads somewhere else ($740). Bruce test drove my car, and took the time to explain why my car does not need any work done. And did not charge me for it! So happy to finally find a shop that cares about the well-maintenance of cars and not getting money from their customers!

Bruce is a rare find in the world of auto mechanics! He is HONEST and only does work that your vehicle actually needs. Prices are fair and he took the time to explain the issues with my car to me, without me having to ask. He wanted to make sure I understood what was going on and what was needed. I 100% recommend Bruce and Carrollwood Auto Repair to anyone looking for honest, exceptional service. As a female with little knowledge about cars and how they work, it can be very difficult to find an honest company to do work on my vehicle. I went in believing I had an oil leak and ended up spending less than $50.00 to fix the issue. This is a trustworthy company and you won t be disappointed giving them your business.1-25-24: Came back to update my review because Google won t allow me to leave a second. Bruce is a genuinely wonderful human being who diagnosed my car and refused to take a dime for the diagnosis because the news wasn t good. He took me step by step through the process of filling my brake fluid and was so incredibly kind to me. He also managed to fit me in basically same day when he was booked solid for a week straight. This is the guy you want to fix your car. People like this really don t exist anymore and you should jump at the chance to have Bruce as your mechanic!

I have been taking my automobiles to Carrollwood Auto Repair for several years now based on the recommendation of my best friend, who has taken all of her cars to Bruce for several years as well. Bruce is trustworthy and repair services are fairly priced. I have on occasion, been informed that my car needed repairs and when taken to Bruce for a second opinion, was informed it was not the case. Mr. Bruce & his team are AMAZING!! From the time that I spoke with him over the phone to picking up my vehicle he was kind, direct and extremely helpful. The level of detail & care that Mr. Bruce & his team provides far exceeds anything I've ever gotten at a dealership, but their prices do not. Yes you read that correct, their prices are much more reasonable and affordable than the dealer. I had such a great first experience and I've found a mechanic for life!! Thank you Mr. Bruce & team!

Wouldn t ever come back here. Was told it s $82 to do a test to figure out what s wrong with my car but wouldn t find out exactly what wrong with it because that would be another extra. Then got charged $13 to have my battery charged up, not to mention he disconnected a hose and left it hanging resulting in it getting a hole burnt into it when the car was turned on to have it moved. Also, the sarcastic comments weren t necessarily.

Owner Bruce does not maintain any fancy signage or marketing for his auto repair shop but he and his team are likely the best and most professional in the area. Super reliable auto repair service by experienced mechanics who know how to fix cars professionally and at a very fair price. Took my car today for the first time and they managed to find the issue and fix it real quick. I was worries that my car would have a big issue but thankfully it ended up being an easy fix :) Definitely recomment their services!!!

I was looking for an honest, knowledgeable, reliable mechanic shop in the area and it's safe to say I've found it!I brought in our '04 Lexus with squeaking and metal noises on one of the wheels. Bruce did a complimentary road test and diagnosed the issues quickly. Him and his partner completed the work in a timely manner even when a difficult and time-consuming problem arose.When Bruce explained the problems and the lengths at which he went to resolve them, I was beyond impressed. They were willing to spend the time to find the problem without throwing money/parts at the issue as guesses. It s rare that anyone nowadays will do this.Although the problem took hours of extra time, I was not charged extra due to the unexpected circumstances. As a new client, I could not have asked for more. I will be going here for any future work and will be recommending this shop to all my friends and family. Bruce is your guy!Service: Brakes

As a woman, it is hard enough to find a trustworthy, honest, and professional mechanic who is not going to take advantage of your novice understanding of car mechanics. I have been bringing my car here for about a year now, after having a bad experience at a dealership and I couldn't be happier.The gentlemen who own, run, and operate this shop are two of the most honest and hard working people I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They take the time to explain what is and is not necessary, how much time I have to do certain maintenance, and are transparent about cost and time.If you are looking for someone to trust your car with, this is the place. I will not bring my car anywhere else and love supporting this small business. I would give ten stars if I could - highly recommend.BTW - Bruce may seem abrasive but he is of a different generation and is just a no nonsense kind of guy. I went to Carrollwood Auto Repair because my partner said she had an amazing customer experience and recommended it. Bruce the mechanic fixed my partner's car in a weekend for a very affordable price. I can vouch for this place as wonderful now too. After being told at another place that I needed all sorts of work done on my brakes, I went to Bruce for a 2nd opinion. He ran all his checks, took my car for a road test, and determined my brakes were almost new. I didn't need anything, and he charged me nothing for the visit. I will definitely be giving my business to this shop when I need it in the future.

Bruce is legitimately the only mechanic I trust in Tampa. Absolutely 0 BS, doesn t upsell and is very honest. I ve never gotten anything than the best work and best prices possible from this shop. Cannot recommend enough

We went to Carrollwood Auto Repair to have them fix my Stop Light Switch Cushion, which I have never heard of before. Once they fixed the cushion they also pointed out to me that my recent battery purchase was the wrong battery for my car. I took it back to the auto parts store and asked them about it and they said they had given us the wrong battery. Now with the new battery all the digital info on the dash is all working properly now. These guys are fantastic and I recommend them to all wanting honest auto repair !

It can be nerve wracking when you don t feel you have a good mechanic and your car starts having problems, but rest assured that Bruce is your guy. My car was towed there on a Saturday and he happened to be working late. He took the time to call me to let me know my car had arrived safely. Then, starting first thing Monday morning, he kept me in the loop all throughout the process of diagnosis and repair. Prices were very fair and the car was ready for pick up same day. We ve got our guy now when it comes to car repairs, and so I hope Bruce can help you too if you re feeling the same way we did.

If you re skeptical and looking for a great mechanic, look no further!!! I was new to Tampa and figured I give this auto repair spot a try & Bruce is by far the best mechanic I have ever come across! He s supper honest and really puts in extra work to make sure everything is okay with your vehicle. Always very good with updates & communication! Overall such a blessing. I recommend everyone go to him for auto repairs because it s so hard to find honest mechanics and he is definitely one of them! I will continue to go to him even after I move from Tampa. I know next to nothing about cars and have had nothing but understanding and respect while speaking with the mechanics, which is something I really appreciate as a young woman. Bruce is straight forward, has never tried to oversell anything to me except what I need to drive safely. Replacing the rear bearing on my Subaru Crosstrek was a nightmare and they made it work, fair charge for labor and great communication!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Battery

Brought my car to CAR when I needed two new tires and a wheel replacement. The service was extremely fast and reliable. Bruce called me to keep me updated many times so I was always aware of what they were doing/if it was going to cost me extra. I recently brought my car back in because I was so pleased with the experience the first time and I needed a new starter. I dropped it off in the morning and it was ready at around 2 or 3 o clock on the same day. You really can t beat this service. Prices are very reasonable and they will never try to rip you off like many other mechanics. HIGHLY recommend!!Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance

Bruce and his crew are a dying breed among businesses today. I am from out of state, but will drive my car to Bruce for maintenance checks because he is the only mechanic I trust. I happened upon his shop in 2011 when my radiator was punctured and another garage told me I needed to replace about everything under the hood. Bruce looked at my car and told me that only the radiator needed replacing and that by the book, the other garage was charging more hours than would it should take for the said repairs. Another time I was leaving Tampa for a holiday and something clunked while driving. I turned around and took it to Bruce. He said he could do the repair and was was kind enough to work me into the rotation THAT DAY so I wouldn t have to leave two days later. This year I replaced my shocks with him and the car drives like a dream. Bruce is honest, very thorough he runs recall reports on your vehicle and print them for you as standard procedure and gives you a fair price for quality work. Whenever I leave his shop after having work done, I never worry about my car because I know Bruce treats it like he would be the one driving it and makes sure it s safe and functional. You will never get better customer service or quality work on your car if you go to Carollwood Auto Repair.

Carrollwood Auto Repair is an amazing auto shop. I initially went to Bruce after reading his amazing reviews and they are all true. He has always been very personable, is flexible with scheduling and knows what he is talking about. My roommate had gone to Bruce a month ago for a new battery and had a great experience, so when I got a flat I decided to take my car there as well. There was some work that I had been putting off getting done, but I decided to let Bruce do it while he had my car. He was extremely communicative and always called to update me. He explained the repairs needed in terms that I could understand and was honest about what needed to be done but never pushy.Everything was finished quickly and the price that I was charged was more than fair. I will now be going to Bruce for any work on my car in the future. He really knows his stuff and runs a great business. I would recommend him to anyone in the Tampa Bay area.

Update August 2023: Still absolutely in love with this mechanic! He's honest, fair, and has competitive pricing. I'm about to buy a car an hour and a half away, and you can betcha I'm making the trek there back to get it checked out before purchase.He's let me come in with questions, no charge (obviously, I call beforehand). And they've also squeezed me in shortly before close for a quick tire repair. They care, and they're good. Just do yourself a favor and come here! :)Posted Oct 2021: Definitely my new mechanic! I recently moved here and was sad to say "goodbye" to my guys up North because they were always so good and honest with me.I'm a young lady, so I find a lot of places try to take advantage. But I do a lot of research and had several mechanics in the area inspect my car so I could compare what they were saying and quoting.I was definitely most impressed with Bruce!- He was very thorough- he even checked my spare tire (it has 5 lbs of air in it when it needed 60!).- He didn't tell me I needed ANY of the thousands of dollars the dealership was trying push.- Pretty much charged me cost for a good air filter.- Taught me how to top off the liquids I needed I wanted to do myself, as well as understand the maintenance codes for my car.- Got my first inspection free since I found him on Yelp.- And he even caught that I needed 2 new back tires- even though the tread was fine. He said average replacement is 5 years and mine are 9 years old. And sure enough, when I went to check- there was a lot of fracturing on the back 2.The *only* downsides are that he's super busy so you'll need to book in advance. And it's a tiny 2 man operation so there's no waiting room. But he was nice enough to give me a chair to do my work out by the trees- so no problems there for me, at least!But overall, amazing business! I'm half an hour away from his shop, but the commute is absolutely worth the drive. So if you're looking for someone new, I'd definitely check this place out :)

My daughter is a college student in Tampa and has a pretty full schedule so when her car had issues, I was pretty worried about getting it fixed quickly and reasonably. Carrollwood Auto was wonderful and squeezed the repair in quickly even though they were booked out over a week. I was grateful for their quick and honest service and there was no pressure to do unnecessary work.

This might be the worst auto shop in Tampa. Bruce is a bitter older gentleman and his demeanor was very abrupt and disingenuous. I wish that was the bad part....the car was kept from Wednesday until Saturday for a STARTER and then I was told one price over the phone and a different one when I paid. I went here because of the reviews, but I will never go there again. I'm sure there are regulars that go there, but this is no place for customers that have never been there. Customer beware!
