Had an issue with my car and didn t want to go to Miami dealer for service. A friend recommended this shop and I am so glad. They got it fixed the same day for way less than I expected. Steve was very kind professional.

There's a reason you have to wait two weeks to get an appointment here, and it's because they're the best in town. These guys do a great job, at a very reasonable price, and they never try to upsell you or try to push unnecessary repairs on you just to make an extra buck. They don't need to, because they always have a row of cars waiting for legitimate repairs. I wouldn't take my vehicle anywhere else in the Keys. 5 stars all around.

Took my Kia here for brake work, after I had been told by local Kia dealer that I needed all four replaced along with the rotors. Was told here I needed the front brakes only. Price was less than half (even if I had needed all 4). Quick , honest and friendly service!

Steve and his staff are a unicorn! Honest car mechanics. He's worked on ALL of our vehicles and recently showed me how valuable he and his staff are. In Miami the criminal mechanic wanted $2k to "fix" my clutch - this didn't pass the smell test. I limped the car home and an after-hours drop-off had Ariel helping push my car into a parking spot - talk about hard working! The next day I get a call it's fixed. Steve actually did some diagnostic work, finding a $200 master cylinder replacement would fix my car just fine. He'll have my business until he retires.Services: Transmission, Tires

They had repaired my vehicle last year. I broke down again and took it back to them. They fixed it in 30 minutes and sent me on my way, and wouldn't take a payment! Turns out a rat had eaten the linkage. Not their fault.

I have had nothing but wonderful experiences here. They don t take advantage of people and make sure the customer is satisfied. Recently they did a repair on my truck exhaust: $83 was the total. They could ve charged me more and I would have never known why but they did me right.Highly recommended if you can schedule an appointment Been here 4 or 5 times in the past few years.

Done business with this shop twice now and both experiences have been on point. This past time my wife had to do the dealings with our truck, as I just had a surgery, and my wife couldn t stop raving about the overall experience. Having worked in the industry I can usually spot quickly whether a shop will be legit. I m thankful to have found a shop I trust.

I can t thank Steve enough for the outstanding trustworthy service! I had a transmission issue that everyone I had spoken too recommended a new or a rebuilt transmission. I had the truck towed to his shop yesterday from Marathon and he had me driving back the same day for a fraction of the cost of a new or rebuilt transmission. Simply the best experience I believe I have ever had. He is simply the best. Thank you Steve!

Excellent service with Steve, and no surprise on my invoice. They replace my batterie and do a oil service, in same time they add coolan, ajust tire air pressure etc etc etc.. good price and top notch service.

Had to wait about a week to get an appointment but it was well worth the wait. Honest, fair prices, and excellent service. One of the better experiences I have had with a mechanic. Not only did he explain what was found and needed, he took the time to show me. My car is back to running like new. When I went to leave, another mechanic stopped traffic so I could safely back out. Just wanted to write and say thank you to Steve. I thought I needed to get the timing belt on my 2015 VW Beetle changed, and having spoken to 4 other Key West mechanics, and even to Volksagen, he was the only person who did the proper research and spotted that my Beetle probably had a timing chain rather than a belt, and wouldn't need a change. A further call to Volkswagen confirmed this. So thanks Steve!. He was friendly and courteous on the phone too!

Most honest, fair and professional car service in the Keys. Brought my 99 Toyota 4 runner for a transmission rebuild its now running like a champ. Steve the owner ran into multiple complications with my truck and was persistent and able to overcome all of them and never wavered from the price he quoted me. To insure I was satisfied he gave me truck back to try for two weeks before asking for payment who does that. His shop like most keys small businesses is short staffed so may take a little longer time for a large job like mine but was definitely worth the wait.

They will take care of you!!! Honest and reasonable! Come here! I brought my old van here thinking I had one problem and it ended up with many and not what I thought.. they worked with me and were so kind! Steve the owner is the best and Jessica the phone lady is too!

I ve waited awhile to write this review to be sure no issues came up with my car post-work done being on it by Shiftin Gears. I used to go to another place in town for all my car needs until communication started falling apart with them over a course of months. Finally, after going in person twice, they sent me an outrageous quote for work to be done on my car. I talked to Steve and he said bring my car in, he would look at it and see what he could do for me. I m glad I looked around, and will never return to the other place again. Steve gained himself a loyal customer in me through his timeliness, professionalism, knowledge of cars, but most importantly his fair prices. The place I originally was going to go to quoted me $1,497.90 for a job that Steve did for $623.58. A savings of over $850. The savings weren t even the biggest point for me, Steve s honesty was. He was willing to show me his invoices to see where he was coming up with the prices to charge me. He s quick too. I can drop my car off in the morning and pick it up at lunch or drop it at lunch and pick it up after work. His team is fantastic too. Really great guys. I had a service engine light come on in my Land Rover and Steve got right on it, found and fixed the issue same day. He saved me a trip to Miami. And to top it off, I picked up a nail in my tire after leaving the shop and he told me to come on back and fixed it in mere minutes. Absolutely the best service in the Keys. A dealership told me I needed a new transmission! I took my older car to Shifting Gears for a second opinion. It was not the transmission, but a faulty wire. Got a nail in our tire while in the key west (visiting from 5 hours away). They were able to patch it up fast and gave us the best deal compared to other places I called. If you're in the area, go to them!

Wow! These guys are awesome to say the least. I dropped in to get my tire patched. It was done in less than half an hour and the price was super reasonable. Really appreciate Steve and the great job he and his crew are doing!

Stopped in for loud noise&smell I thought was my water pump. Took them about a minute to find broke A/C compressor belt and idler arm broken.Brought truck back when he'd have time, fixed in one hour. Did not try to fix stuff that wasn't broken. Honest and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.The place a block away ignored me for 20 minutes before I decided to go to Shifting Gears.(while they were talking about fishing, not working on any of the cars in the bays...)Service: General repairs & maintenance

I like this garage. The only place in key west I trust with my duramax. I have used them for transmission issues, air conditioning issues, rear end issues, turbo issues, tire issues, window issues, air bag issues, and regular maintenance. Steve has been spot on. I have watched customer interaction while waiting for my vehicle and I never saw anything negative. You can be sure if there is a negative review; there is something more to the story. This is a very busy garage. They try to accommodate and help everyone. (I would give 10 stars if it were possible.)I took my vehicle in for a starter replacement at Shifting Gears yesterday morning, dropped it off at 9:15 A.M. and Steve assured me that they would get on it shortly. To my surprise, Steve called me at 10:10 A.M. and told me that my Vehicle was ready. Steve was very professional and courteous and quoted me less than 1/2 the price as another local auto shop that I was using and at that other place, they started getting greedy with very high quotes and it always seems I have had to call the other auto shop much later after being told I would given a call when my vehicle was done, at this other shop, and when I call them they always say "yeah, it's been done for 2-3 hours now", but I never receive a phone call, unlike from Steve at Shifting Gears.Shifting Gears and Steve are my 100% Go-to One Stop Auto Mechanic Shop from here on out. I highly recommend Shifting Gears Automotive Repair!You won't be disappointed.I'll be recommending Shifting Gears to anyone who asks me about local auto mechanic suggestions, in person and on social media groups.Tony

Excellent! I spoke with Steve about 9am about installing a cruise control servo unit, that I had purchased on my own, on my Focus. I brought my car to the shop at 10 and they were done by 11:30. I had called other shops and they wouldn't give me even a rough estimate over the phone. Steve gave me a quote over the phone and the bill ended up being a bit less than he quoted. Beautiful!!! I wish I wasn't moving back to the mainland. I'd use these guys for everything.

Steve is very professional and knowledgeable and his guys do great work. They kept our Chrysler 300 limo on the road and cold inside for years. They recently did a full brake job on my Porsche 911-pads, rotors, sensors, for less than half the dealer's quote, and fixed the A/C by replacing a low pressure switch under the hood-impressive. They have my full confidence.
