I highly recommend CarrSmith, especially if you are looking for service that requires a deep understanding of some of the more esoteric elements of auto mechanics.Charles and Ray treated my salvaged, fifty year old Porsche 914 as if it were their own personal project. Their encyclopedic knowledge of the intricacies involved was truly impressive.Thanks to them, I am now tooling about town in a classic.

I ve brought my car here twice (once for an emergency repair, and again for routine maintenance), and have consistently been impressed by both the quality of the work and the friendly attitude of the staff.My one major complaint is the method and consistency of the communication. Their text notification system often does not update, and during this second visit I was not even aware they had started working on my car. They did NOT confirm the work being done nor the estimated costs with me, so it was a surprise when I showed up to get my car and saw what had actually been done and what it cost (which was a significant amount).EDIT: I was also charged for a service that was on the list of recommended action items, but that I did NOT mark off as wanting to have done. Again, was not informed of this until I saw my invoice.

My truck broke down traveling home on I-75. AAA recommended towing to Carrsmith, which I did. When I arrived, I was greeted by Charles the service manager. He was very professional and explained to me in detail the tests that would be performed to diagnose the problem. I left to have lunch, and was texted & emailed from Charles throughout the day with updates on my truck. Charles was amazing, and considering the amount of work that was needed to repair my truck, it was repaired in a timely fashion and I was able to get home later that day! I highly recommend Carrsmith to anyone needing auto repair or service in the Gainesville area!Service: Engine repair

Charles is the man, I would trust no one else with my Land Rover besides Carrsmith. Since we don t have a local Land Rover dealership, I was worried when I purchased my car. However, I have been beyond pleased with the level of service, communication, and transparency from Carrsmith. 5 stars all the way!

I took my Tesla in for maintenance work. It wasn't until I started searching for a place that I then realized how rare it is to find a tesla certified carshop in Alachua County, so I was pleased to find Carrsmith. They were wonderful from start to finish! Very communicative, friendly and thorough. Most importantly their prices are great!

Ray and Charles were knowledgeable and very thorough when diagnosing my car after it broke down. They were quick to repair the primary items and suggest the next important repairs in priority order of safety in a caring non pressure manner. They shared the damaged parts for my knowledge, prior to disposing of them. The cost was very fair and reasonable and turnaround time was great.I like the text/email updates which kept me in the loop.If I lived in the area, they would become my regular go to for maintenance.Services: Tires, Brakes

The best and most professional service I have received in many years! Charles and his team were able to repair the electrical problems with my Ford F-150 that the dealer was not able to diagnose. I have had a number of problems with my tires balancing on new wheels. Went here on recommendation and I had also found out they have a road force balancer. This is the only way to fly. The Balancer found out that I have what is a slight defect in two wheels. That said, what that balancer does is amazing. Charles was my tech and and excellent. Considering what this balancer does, and the pains they go through to figure out what s going on with your tires and wheels, the price is exceptionally reasonable. While returning home from Disney, my 2017 Nissan Maxima started to break down. We were still 4.5 hours away from home. Instead of paying the four figure fee to have it towed home, I decided to try and have it fixed nearby. AAA recommend Carrsmith. We were just a couple of miles away so I slowly made my way there. I m glad I did, they were AWESOME!! What I initially thought was an issue with bad fuel turned out to be a dying fuel pump. They showed me detailed diagnostic results that correlated with everything I was experiencing with my car. My son and I had our dog with us and and they welcomed her inside (out of the heat) while we waited. The waiting area and restrooms were very clean and comfortable and we were welcomed to help ourselves to water, tea and coffee. Everyone was really friendly to us and our dog, Violet. It was towards the end of the day so we stayed in a nearby hotel. The next morning, they got the new fuel pump and fixed my car. They did a thorough check up, replaced my out worn windshield wipers with premium quality wipers and got us safely on our way home. The wipers really came in handy because we ran into a lot of heavy rain on the way home. I highly recommend Carrsmith, whether you re local or having car issues while passing through. My Volvo was towed to Carrsmith with brakes locking up and random messages coming up on the screen. Charles contacted me as soon as he made the initial inspection and kept in touch throughout the entire diagnosis and the ABS failure repair process. We have never experienced such excellent communication and service from any business. They are very knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend Carrsmith to anyone needing auto repairs.Update: I recommend Carrsmith for general services, such as oil changes, also. I have had my mini cooper worked on at this shop now for a couple years. They are thorough and honest with their diagnostics and inspections, will provide you with pictures and explanations as to how critical a repair is needed. I feel like when they explain whats wrong with my car they are a mutual friend just giving me facts and honest opinions.The service quality is top tier, my car gets quality repairs and the care it deserves. My 2008 Infiniti G35 was towed to Carrsmith after being worked on by another well known place in Gainesville. Charles assured me that they would find out what was going on with my car and take care of it. He would text and email me throughout the process to keep me updated. They're very kind and Professional at Carrsmith. I would recommend them to anyone who's looking for an honest and caring mechanic shop. My car is running perfect. Very professional and personal. Ray and Charles took care of my daughters 2014 Jetta that had a wheel sensor issue. After going to the local dealership and being bullied for unnecessary repairs, we found Carrsmith and couldn t have been happier with the service. Ray the owner and Charles were fantastic. Crooked as hell. Not only was that 8 minutes of my life I'll never get back being interrupted, belittled, and "mansplained" the extended timeline of a land rovers origins, but the employee I spoke with refused service for an appointment for a basic diagnostic test. Shortly after, my partner called and the employee said it will cost $500 "just for him to look at it" and "most customers don't ask how much it'll be they just drop the keys off and pay".I've had my land rover successfully serviced at multiple establishments in Colorado and Jacksonville, respectively. Never before in my life has someone hands down, verbatim, refused service over the phone in such a brash and disappointing manner of professionalism. I'd shop around prior to wasting time, money, and energy. They'll never retain any business with that lack of decorum. Good luck!

I drive an air cooled VW Beetle, and was having vibration issues after purchasing new tires. The shop I was working with did not have a road force balancing machine, which is what I needed, so I chose Carrsmith as they had the right machine as well as specific knowledge about an old Beetle (which would be handy if something else was causing an issue, that an average tire shop worker wouldn't have the knowledge for). The tires are now rolling beautifully; we had the steering box tightened up while the car was there and it feels like it just rolled out of the showroom. Not bad for a 49 year old car!Services: Tires, Steering & suspension repair

The team at Carrsmith has been a pleasure to work with. I noticed their shop on 13th street because they advertised experience working with Volvo and other European imports. They have since relocated but quality never missed a beat. They are thorough and meticulous in their attention to detail and making certain they are addressing the right problem via inspection and testing. This is an authentic local repair shop. For those looking for quick in and out and not prepared to invest in maintaining an automobile, there are plenty of big box alternatives. I've been bringing my vehicles to Carrsmith for 15 years, and have been working with Ray directly for that entire time. I've always had excellent experiences here, and would highly recommend this shop. 3 different vehicles I've owned have been reliably serviced by Carrsmith.In my experience with Carrsmith, the owner always takes his time asking detailed questions regarding the vehicle's status, and usually repeats questions for the sake of clarity and thoroughness. This has been the norm with me and everyone I have recommended to this place. Also highly recommend Carrsmith for pre-purchase inspections of used vehicles you're considering buying - i've saved myself the hassle of buying a lemon more than once.Most recently, Ray and the Carrsmith crew have been helping me to keep my very old Volvo (2006) in tip top shape. After this most recent round of service (Spring 2023), it sounds like it has 100k fewer miles on it than last week. Great people to work with!

Carrsmith does a really thorough inspection of your vehicle. Then they text or email the results, and then discuss with you what they've found and how critical each item is. They then recommend service, which you can approve or delay as you see fit. I brought my 2010 Odyssey to Carrsmith after the overpriced efforts of a well known local dealer failed to fix a chronic steering problem. Charles the manager, was analytical and careful in his approach to a complex issue with worn interacting front suspension parts. The car steers and rides like a dream now, like new in fact.The alternator blew a few weeks later and this time I took the vehicle straight to Carrsmith. Carrsmith is the best mechanic I've ever had. They routinely service my 2010 MINI Cooper and 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. What impresses me most are the detailed reports they send me about my cars with photos, links to videos, descriptions of repairs, and suggestions of other repairs. This comes via email and text updates. Also, I've never had my car stay there more than 5 days. Use them!

I was very impressed with how thorough and detail-oriented they were, especially in keeping me well informed as to what they were doing with my vehicle every step of the way via text, email, and phone. Thank you again for your information and advice. They are really helpful!I have no idea about the car inspections. I found them on AAA and called them for the information. After they knew the car is 40 mi away from Gainesville, they even helped me look up the local Auto Repair information and contacts. They were so nice and patient that they were able to answer all of my questions professionally and transparently. I strongly and highly recommend this place for the car services, especially for the European cars.

I'm so relieved I found a shop that is fully knowledgable on the Mini Coopers. The Mgr. Charles was extremely professional and detailed in what I was to expect from their level of service. Between their high level of customer service and their digital diagnosis platform that keeps you in the loop real time, you feel the trust which is a high priority for me. They are very good with car repairs. I would recommend them to anyone who's car is having problems. Honestly, I don't know anything about cars, but first of all their customer service is really good.
