This is a great place to start your Big Sur adventure! The Rangers are super helpful and they always have a smile on their face! This is the place to start planning all of your stops and find out what is open and what is not open. This is also a great place to use the bathroom it s very clean. You can also get all of your parking passes or camping permits. You should also make a stop on the way out so you can pick up your souvenirs.

The best advice on what to see in Big Sur. They know what trails are clear and can suggest how to plan your hiking trip. They know where all the sights are and where to park. Plus the toilets are open 24 hours a day.

An amazing place. We didn't know you could camp there - there are designated camping spots. At the entrance there are plaques that tell you the dangers (poison ivy, rattlesnakes etc...) with diagrams. The trails are marked - though the trail for the waterfalls is a little confusing. For the waterfall, you have to walk over what looks like fallen logs to cross over to continue the trail - we did not do that. But, we did follow the trail all the way to the limekiln and that was beautiful. There is a wonderful stream throughout the woods that you can follow as well. There are benches to sit on at various viewing spots.

Nice stop but needs to open during weekdays plus vending machines are always out of order.

I couldn't stay long, but the trails look likely to be really good. Some pretty big Redwoods near the start.

Easy to find. Need to fill out parking slip $10/calendar day at the entrance to large parking(drive past the ranger station). At the trailhead you ll find the self registration wilderness permit(other end of parking lot opposite pay station). Super straightforward and accessible to all who wish to experience the park and what it has to offer.

Salmon creek trail is a straight trail from heaven. I wish i could live here forever. 6 waterfalls in less than a mile walk in and the whole area for camping looks clean and not super crowded. Its absolutely gorgeous out here!! The ppl are very helpful in gathering directions. Just positive all around.

Nice staff inside to get information, brochures and maps of pfeiffer state park. There is also a small gift shop and restrooms. Worth a quick stop before going to other parts of the park. I got a nice combinations of stamps for my park passport collection thanks to the clerck :)

There's not much here. Hardly any merchandise for purchase. Do not rely on this place for last minute essentials. They don't have anything except some books and shirts. They're not very helpful either. The lady is just kind of there answering very basic questions. So make sure you have a plan before camping out here. Failure to plan is planning to fail.

It most of the hiking trails are close and river gorge is part close bad experience, also if you're planning to take a shower better be ready to buy tokens at the entrance no one is gonna tell you to buy it until you notice when you get in to the shower! Did mention that all near hiking trails are mostly close?

This place is beautiful. I recently returned from 2 day backpacking trip towards Sykes Hot Springs. The Big Sur Station is a good point for you to park and get any additional information you may need from the information lodge. There is a decent sized lot for you to park overnight if you are looking to backpack into the Ventana Wilderness or free parking if you merely wish to enjoy a light hike through the woods. For those looking for camping there are plenty of grounds prior to Sykes and at Sykes. You can camp and nice lush flat grounds further inland or camp next to flowing creeks. For those looking to head towards Sykes it is roughly 20 miles round trip and depending on your pace can be anywhere from 4+ hours of hiking. It is fairly arduous as you make your way up and down hill that will test your endurance if you are looking to go without breaks. Bring plenty of water and ensure you at the very least have water filters, water sanitizing tablets, or a means to boil water if you are to drink any water from the creeks. If you are a wilderness lover you will absolutely enjoy this trip.

This would be your starting point to an 11mile hike towards Sykes Hot Springs. You can actually manage to make it a day trip. I left at 5am for Sykes and was back at 7:30pm. Soaking in the spring for good 2:30 hoursRangers are very kind and informative. I suggest calling in advance to see if the trail is open due to weather conditions.

A decent visitor station. Much of what to expect, over priced hats, shirts, and some herbal soap junk. The guide there was nice however, showed us some local spots and was helpful while we had no signal.

The officer was nice. Told me anything about closed and accessible trails to hike. Only few parking lots you might use for 10min. Restrooms are okay.
